How Gov Fayose rescued Fani-Kayode’s wife from detention at a Bank in Ekiti

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday detained Mrs. Precious Fani-Kayode, who is the wife of a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, in Ado Ekiti for hours.

Precious, who was a guest of Governor Ayodele Fayose, had gone to a branch of Access Bank in Ado Ekiti around 3pm when she was detained by officials of the bank.

Sensing that she was not being promptly attended to, she inquired from officials what the problem was and was told she was being detained on the instructions of the EFCC.

The International Committee of the Red Cross on Sunday clarified that its activities did not include negotiation for the release of hostages taken by terrorists.

The International President of the ICRC, Peter Maurer, said this in Lagos against the background of media reports that the ICRC was involved in the negotiation that led to last Thursday’s release of  21 out of over 200 Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect.

Maurer said though the girls were released to the ICRC by the Boko Haram sect to hand them over to the Federal Government, negotiation for release of hostages was not part of the ICRC’s activities.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said his administration was open to continue talks with Boko Haram, provided the sect agreed to involve international agencies.

Buhari spoke while granting audience to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr. Peter Maurer, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President commended the role played by the ICRC in the release of 21 of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu to stand as Metuh’s surety

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has agreed to stand as a surety to guarantee the bail earlier granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja to a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

Ekweremadu is set to replace Dr. Olubumi Usim-Wilson, who has indicated his intention to withdraw as a surety for the accused.

FIRS shutdown cement, engineering firms over tax evasion

Federal Inland Revenue Service enforcement team from Abuja stormed Rivers State on Monday and sealed off Lafarge in Onne and IGPES in Port Harcourt for  alleged tax evasion.

While the cement company was sealed for allegedly failing to pay over N10m in taxes; IGPES, an engineering firm, was shut for allegedly evading tax to the tune N1.2bn.

Speaking shortly after sealing off the two companies, the leader of the FIRS team, Mrs. Ruth Mandeun, warned their managements to pay the outstanding taxes to allow for the reopening of the firms.

Governor of CBN, Emefiele says Managing an economy in recession difficult

Managing an economy in recession is a difficult task but also presents challenges that are surmountable, the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has said.

Emefiele said this while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, who paid an oversight visit to the apex bank in Abuja on Monday.

The CBN boss said the situation in the country required the cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders, and expressed delight at the support that the bank had received from lawmakers in the past.

Prophetess Remanded In Prison For Stealing Life Turkey in Osun State

As part of efforts to manage the dollar crisis, Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria have sent out messages to their customers notifying them that they cannot use their Naira debit/credit cards for any transaction abroad for now.

Idowu Oyedeji a beautiful Nigeria girl has shared photos detailing her journey to recovery after surviving a ghastly car crash that left her unconscious for days with a couple of surgeries done. Idowu was involved in a ghastly car accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in June this year. She sat in the backseat of the car while her husband and a friend both sat in the front seats. Their car had an accident that caused her hubby and his friend to have little bruises while she suffered a major impact from the accident that left her unconscious for many days. Idowu shared these photos from her recovery on Facebook as she thanks, family members and friends who stood by her.
