Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi, has praised his Nigeria international teammate Victor Moses following his impressive showing for Chelsea in their 3-0 win against Leicester City at the weekend.

Moses is enjoying a new lease of life at Chelsea under Antonio Conte after spending the last three seasons on loan outside the club.

PACAC says Not all corruption cases must go to full trial


The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has recommended plea bargaining as an alternative means of settling corruption cases.

According to the report of the committee’s work, seen by TheCable, it was recommended that not all criminal cases should be prosecuted to finality.

Consequently, the Itse Sagay-led committee produced a manual on plea bargaining to guide prosecutors handling corruption cases.

FIRS grants a waiver of penalty to tax defaulters


The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) says it has granted a waiver of penalty and interest on tax liabilities to all companies between 2013 and 2015.

In a public notice on Monday, Babatunde Fowler, the executive chairman of the FIRS, said the waiver only relates to accumulated penalty and interest but not principal tax due.

Fowler said a 45-day window has been opened up by the service to enable companies owing to declare their indebtedness and present a payment plan on the outstanding principal tax liability, only acceptable to the Federal Board of Inland Revenue.

#ChibokGirls: 83 more girls to be freed soon


A faction of Boko Haram which last week freed 21 of more than 219 Chibok girls kidnapped in April 2014  is willing to negotiate the release of 83 more of the girls, President Muhammadu Buhari’s  spokesman said.

Around 219 girls were taken from their school in 2014 in Chibok in northeastern Borno state, where Boko Haram has waged a seven-year insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic state, killing thousands and displacing more than two million people.

Several months after one of the girls was found, a faction of the militant group released 21 of the girls on Thursday. The Red Cross and the Swiss government brokered the deal.

Brazil | At least 25 prisoners die as riots erupt in jail


At least 25 inmates have died in clashes between two rival factions in a prison in far northern Brazil, according to local news media citing police.

Seven of the dead were beheaded and six burned to death in Sunday's violence in a prison in Boa Vista, the capital of Roraima state, the news site G1 reported, citing local police.

The bloodshed began when inmates of one wing of the Agricola de Monte Cristo prison broke into another wing.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Tayo Adeyemi, who confessed to having been hired to kill a female hotel lodger in the Alakija, Satellite Town area of the state.

Adeyemi, who hails from Kwara State, told our correspondent that he was arrested by the police after he sneaked into the hotel, White House, and demanded that his target, simply known as Rosemary, had sex with him so he would spare her life.

Bizarre! US Hospital removes kidney from the wrong patient


A hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, St Vincent Hospital, has received backlash after surgeons mistakenly removed a kidney from the wrong patient after they did not follow proper patient identification procedures.

The surgeons removed a healthy kidney from the wrong patient on July 20. A 32-page report revealed that the unidentified patient was at the hospital to have a kidney removed due to a large tumor.

However, once the procedure began, doctors realized that there was no tumor on the patient's organ. The organ was removed and sent to the pathology department, which confirmed the kidney did not have any tumor. The report explained:

Herdsmen attack Kaduna village, over 20 killed including two security officer


Over the weekend there was a commotion in Kaduna State as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked a military outpost leaving over 20 people including two security officers dead at Godogodo village.

According to residents, the attack started on Saturday, October 15th and then continued into yesterday Sunday, October 16th which saw the herdsmen attacking surrounding villages in  Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State‎.
