Lagos State | Police arrest two members of notorious cult groups


Detectives attached to the Area J Police Command, Elemoro, Ibeju Lekki have arrested two members of rival cult groups for their alleged involvement in murder cases in Ajah and Epe areas of Lagos.

The suspects, identified as Shola Faratimi, 23, and Bolaji Elewuro, 20, were arrested during a violent clash between Eiye and Aiye groups at Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos, during which one Adisa Gbalaya was allegedly shot dead.

Students of the Kogi State Polytechnic were stunned to discover an aborted baby abandoned behind one of the female hostels (Hostel D) in the campus, according to reports.

The shocking sight caused pandemonium in the area. It was alleged that the baby was aborted by one of the female students before throwing the dead feotus at the back of the hostel thinking that nobody would find it.

Germany | Arrested Syrian terror suspect commits suicide in prison


The Syrian man arrested in Germany for a suspected Islamic extremist bomb plot killed himself on Wednesday in a prison cell in Leipzig, Saxony state. 
  
Justice Ministry spokesman Joerg Herold told The Associated Press that Jaber Albakr, 22, killed himself sometime in the evening, but that the incident was still being investigated. 
  
Albakr, who had been under surveillance by German domestic intelligence since last month, was observed exiting the apartment building and authorities fired a warning shot. He nevertheless was able to elude police on the scene and flee the city. Inside the apartment they found highly volatile explosives and a home-made bomb vest. 

DSS releases copies of search warrants issued for Arrested Judges


The Department of State Security DSS has released copies of search warrants it obtained from the Magistrate Court of Abuja on October 5th for the search of the homes of the various judges that were arrested over the weekend.

Baby girl born with massive tongue undergoes life-changing surgery (See Photos)


A toddler, Paisley Morrison-Johnson, who suffered from a rare condition which made her tongue to grow more than twice the size of her mouth has had a surgical procedure to correct the condition, and for the first time smiled after the surgery.

The condition was so bad that even after surgeons cut away some part of the tongue, it still grew back and covered her mouth.

Doctors diagnosed Paisley as being born with Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) – an overgrowth disorder that affects one in every 11,000 births worldwide.

Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf quits


Wells Fargo & Co's (WFC.N) veteran chairman and chief executive officer, John Stumpf, is leaving the bank in the wake of a sales scandal and will be replaced as CEO by President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Sloan.

The San Francisco-based bank said on Wednesday that Stumpf was retiring with immediate effect. It is splitting the role of chairman and CEO with Stephen Sanger, its lead director, becoming chairman. Elizabeth Duke, an independent director, will be vice chair.

Why Drake and Rihanna Relationship Didn't Work Out


Drake and Rihanna seem to have split up. According to E! Online, a few days ago, news broke out that the singer and rapper have gone their separate ways.

This seemed to be confirmed by Drake himself when he shared a not-so-subtle Instagram post on Tuesday night. He doesn’t mention her name or tag her in the post but he does mention phrases that we could relate to any of our past relationships.
“Too mix up in drama to free my mind but I’m praying for you even in your darkest times,” he wrote beside a black and white photo of himself sitting in a car while holding a bottle of what appears to be alcohol.

Minister Of Environment, Amina Mohammed to Attend AU Summit


The nomination of the Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, to serve in the African Union (AU) Reform Steering Committee by President Buhari has been approved.

The committee, which is headed by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda is tasked with ongoing institutional reforms of the AU Commission and its organs.

The committee, which comprises eminent persons from the continent, will work on part-time basis to produce a report for presentation to the 28th African Union Summit in January 2017.

World's longest-reigning monarch, Thai King Bhumibol dies


Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was the world's longest-reigning monarch, died in hospital on Thursday, the palace said in an announcement.

The palace did not give a reason for his death. He was 88 years old.

The two leading political parties for the November Gubernatorial Election for Ondo State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday announced running mates for their candidates.

While the PDP chose the former Commissioner for Information in the state, John Ola Mafo as running mate to Mr Eyitayo Jegede SAN, the APC named a former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon Agboola Ajayi as running mate to Mr Rotimi Akeredolu SAN.

The two political parties had submitted names of their deputy governorship candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the deadline for such exercise expired yesterday.

Facebook under fire for its aggressive anti-nudity policy


Facebook has tendered an apology for removing a post by the French newspaper, Le Monde, about a mammogram screening, after yet again coming under fire for its aggressive anti-nudity policy.

The lead image of the article, which was published by Les Décodeurs, a data-focused site run by the paper, shows a woman having a mammogram and one of her breasts is exposed.

That seemed to be enough for the Social Networking Company to enforce its wide-ranging anti-nipple policy, and remove the article shortly after it was posted.

Boko Haram releases 21 Chibok Girls


Islamist Boko Haram insurgents have released twenty-one of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by in April 2014 to the Nigerian government.

According to reports, the girls were picked up by military helicopter from Banki area of Borno state where Boko Haram militants dropped them off earlier today.

The Federal Government has recently expressed its desire to negotiate the release of the abducted schoolgirls.

Emir accused of marrying off abducted 14-year-old girl


Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman have been accused of marrying off, 14-year-old Habiba Isiyaku to her kidnapper.

The 14-year-old who according to her father, Mal. Isiyaku Tanko was kidnapped from school, Government Senior Secondary School, Kudun Kankara, Katsina State by one Jamilu Lawal, has been forcefully converted to Islam and married off by the Emir without her parent's concept.

Mal. Tanko who was made to present his case by the Stefanos Foundation at a press conference in Abuja, stated that Jamilu had not only admitted to abducting his daughter but also revealed that she is presently being kept at the Palace of the Emir of Katsina.

All directors at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have reportedly been sacked.

Details are still sketchy, but according to Nigerian Tribune, many general managers were also demoted.

DSS arrest two more judges taking the list to Nine


Two more judges were yesterday arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), taking the number of judges so far picked up to nine.

Justices Bashir Sukola and Ladan Manir of the Kaduna State High Court, were arrested in Kaduna and taken to the DSS Headquarters in Abuja at about 8.30pm.

A top source told the Nation, said they were immediately taken in for interrogation.Six other judges are under probe.

The DSS, it was learnt yesterday, has frozen the accounts of some of the judges under investigation.In some of the accounts are “huge lodgments”, a source said yesterday.
