Jan Oblak believe Wayne Rooney is still England´s dangerman


Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak feels Wayne Rooney remains England’s main dangerman ahead of Tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier in Ljubljana.

Rooney has lost his starting berth at Manchester United and is no longer an undisputed starter in the attack at international level either.

Nevertheless, Oblak refuses to write off England’s all-time top scorer just yet.

Military: Operation Crocodile Smile may return to creeks


Indications emerged, weekend, that the Federal Government may order the return of the Special Military Intervention force, Operation Crocodile Smile, which was largely successful in smoking out militants and destroying their camps in the creeks, back to the Niger Delta region to checkmate attacks on oil pipelines and gas facilities that have serious effect on the nation’s economy.

It was gathered that the Military High Command has been told to re-energise its intelligence networks in the Niger Delta region while a massive redeployment of operatives from the security agencies has been carried out.

German | Police apprehend Syrian bomb plot suspect


German police have arrested a Syrian man in the eastern city of Leipzig that they suspect of planning a bomb attack.

Authorities said on Twitter on Monday they captured the man, previously identified as Jaber Albakr, after he went on the run on Saturday.

Police were looking for the 22-year-old suspect after finding several hundred grammes of explosives in an apartment they raided on Saturday in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

CBN to renew Naira-Yuan swap deal


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sunday, raised the hope that the lingering Naira-Yuan swap deal will be achieved as part of strategies to reducing the huge dollar demand pressure on the local currency.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, gave the indication at the ongoing International Monetary Fund/World Bank Group yearly meetings in Washington DC.

According to him, there is a lot of “networking meetings going on, and I can assure you that meetings are going on with some of our partners, particularly, China.”

CBN says Banks to pay for fraud on mobile money transactions


Customers who lose money to fraudsters through the mobile money-driven Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) banking will be reimbursed by their banks, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said.

The USSD Banking platform allows customers to transfer money to the third party, buy airtime, open accounts, pay bills and book travels, among other services, using their mobile phones, but the level of customer protection is still below regulatory threshold.

Alibaba acquires stake in Spielberg firm


Chinese internet billionaire Jack Ma has joined forces with cinema legend Steven Spielberg to produce and distribute films, they announced, the latest major tie-up between China and Hollywood.

Alibaba Pictures, a unit of Ma’s sprawling e-commerce conglomerate, said it had taken a minority stake in Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, a film creation company that includes DreamWorks studios.

The deal will see the companies co-finance and co-produce movies for Chinese and international audiences, Alibaba said on its corporate website.

Solange Knowles Earns Her First No. 1 Album on the Billboard 200 Chart


The singer has earned her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with ‘A Seat at the Table.’ The album moved 72,000 album units in its first week. 46,000 of those units were pure album sales.

Bon Iver’s ‘22, A Million,’ came in at No. 2 with 71,000 units (58,000 in album sales).

APC victorious in Ogun Polls


The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGESIEC)  said the All Progressives Congress won almost all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the Ogun polls.

Declaring the results, the commission’s Chairman, Mrs Risikat Ogunfemi, said the ruling APC won all the Chairmanship positions in all the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs.

The party also won 346 councillorship seats out of the 349 wards in the state.

Ibe Kachikwu says dialogue with militants hasn’t collapsed


The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, has dismissed as false, speculation in some quarters that the Federal Government is working against the people of the Niger Delta region.

This is just as he pointed out that the Federal Government has not pulled the plugs on ongoing dialogue with the people of the region to find lasting solutions to the lingering violence and pipeline vandalism in the region.

The minister made the clarification on Saturday in an interview at the end of the 2016 Convocation Ceremony of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta.

Gov Ambode wants all Shanties along the waterfront must go


Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Sunday ordered the immediate demolition of all shanties around the creeks and on the waterways.

Gov. Ambode gave the order when he visited the Ilubirin Lagos Homes project during an inspection tour of some parts of the state.

The governor asked all illegal occupants of the shanties to evacuate the area within seven days adding that the safety of citizens was paramount, hence the government’s zero tolerance for kidnapping and other crimes.

Recession: NYSC tells schools to cut Graduates for mobilization by 60 percent


The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, has slashed the number of prospective Corp members for the next phase of mobilization.

The disclosure was made in a leaked internal memo dated 4th October, 2016 and sent to all heads of departments of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

The memo signed by Mrs Ifeoma Egboka, office of the Dean of Students Affairs, said NYSC explained that the slash was as a result of “tight budgetary allocation of the Scheme”.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Asabe Andrew for allegedly strangling her one-year-and-three-month-old daughter, Esther.

According to the command, the suspect then dumped the baby’s body into a river in Gunduma.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Bello, who paraded the suspect in Lafia, said the command also apprehended a total of 20 armed robbery suspects for committing various offences, including armed robbery and car snatching.

Former Head of State, Abdusalami urges FG to establish more cancer centres


A former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar, has urged the federal government to establish more cancer control and treatment centres in the country to help reduce the medical tourism abroad.

Abubakar made the call on Saturday during the official Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Asi Ukpo Oncology Centre in Calabar.

He said the current nine cancer centres in the country were incapable of meeting up with the needed services required by the over 160 million Nigerians.

Ambakederimo: Nigeria’s recession self-inflicted, but won’t last long


The Convener, South-South Reawakening Group, Mr Joseph Ambakederimo, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government should not be blamed for the nation’s current economic hardship stressing that the ‘current recession was self inflicted’.

According to him, decades of lack of planning, mismanagement and corruption coupled with the importation of eventually every goods the country can produce plagued the country into recession.

He however, warned the federal government not to conceive to piling pressures from some rich individuals into selling some of the nation’s valuable assets as he was hopeful that the current economic recession would not last long.

U.S. envoy says Washington to use all means to pressure North Korea


Washington will use all available means outside the U.N. Security Council to isolate North Korea over its nuclear weapons program and counter its growing threat to world order, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations said on Sunday.

The United States will also use its military as a deterrent to the North's threat, Ambassador Samantha Power told a news conference in Seoul, after visiting the heavily armed Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) border between the rival Koreas.
