The Super Eagles on Wednesday defeated local league side, Plateau United, 3 – 0 in a test match at the National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Anderson Esiti’s goal and Alex Iwobi’s brace gave the Eagles a whopping victory over the Nigerian Premier League club.

Nigeria Customs impounded goods worth N101.5m


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’ Federal Operations Unit, Lagos, says it intercepted prohibited items with a duty paid value of N101.5 million in September.

Area Controller, Umar Dahiru, told newsmen on Thursday in Lagos that the unit also recovered N30.1 million on false declaration, undervaluation and evasion of duty payment from vehicles and other goods.

Federal Government to setup National Agency for Cancer Control


Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has announced that Federal Government is tinkering with the possibility of setting up National Agency for Cancer Control (NACC) in Nigeria.

The Minister made this known during an audience with Director, Head of Eastern Europe, Middle East, African (EEMEA ) region, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, Pharmaceuticals Division Dr. Peter HUG in Abuja.

The minister explained that the institution, when establish would be responsible for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and palliative care for cancer patients. It will also provide leadership and technical direction for cancer control in Nigeria integrating services provided by the National Cancer Centre and in cooperating a cluster of public and private tertiary Hospitals.

The House of Representatives on Thursday resolved to investigate the N65 being charged customers by commercial banks for Automated Transaction Machine.

18-year-old JSS pupil in court for stealing N200, using charms


An 18-year-old secondary school pupil, Sadiq Adegbite, who allegedly stole N200 from a fellow pupil and used charm to harass other colleagues, was on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, a pupil of Junior High School, Ogudu, Lagos, is facing a three counts of conspiracy, stealing and disorderly conduct.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, said the complainant, a 15-year-old student of the school, came to Ogudu Police Station to report the incident.

Ekiti State House of Assembly has been hit by crisis following the removal of the member representing Ikole Constituency 1, Gboyega Aribisogan, as Information Committee chairman.

Aribisogan’s sack and his replacement with the member representing Oye Constituency 1, Samuel Omotoso, is believed to be a prelude to his recall from the Assembly.

Chinese companies to invest $70 Billion to Nigerian Petroleum sector


The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, on Wednesday, said Chinese private sector companies had pledged an additional investment of $70bn to the Nigerian economy.

Kachikwu said this while addressing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.


He said that the Council was briefed on the outcome of the ministry’s China roadshow which took place in January.

Portugal’s former prime minister Antonio Guterres was poised to become the next secretary-general of the United Nations following a decisive straw poll by the Security Council on Wednesday.

Guterres, who served as prime minister from 1995 to 2002 and was the UN’s refugee chief for 10 years, won backing from 12 of the 15 council members — most importantly from four of the five veto-holding powers.

Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin emerged from the council chamber along with the 14 other ambassadors to declare that Guterres was the “clear favorite” to succeed Ban Ki-moon as the world’s diplomat-in-chief.

The Scottish-born winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry took a jab Wednesday at US presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has bragged that he was “smart” to avoid paying taxes.

The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) will run off with a third of it,” said Northwestern University professor Fraser Stoddart, referring to his portion of the eight million Swedish kronor (around $933,000 or 832,000 euros) award, which he shares with Jean-Pierre Sauvage of France and Bernard Feringa of the Netherlands.
“Did you all get that? I’m not very smart,” Stoddart added, to laughter and applause during a champagne-fueled press conference to celebrate the Nobel win.

FEC approves procurement of three 150 MVA‎ transformers for Shiroro, ‎Oshogbo, Ondo station


The Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Mr. Fasola also that FEC approved the procurement of three transformers of 150 MVA‎ to be installed in substations in Shiroro, ‎Oshogbo and Ondo. According to him, the purpose was to expand the transmission capacity of electricity around the country.

World Health Organisation (WHO) warns of new cancer cases


The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned of a 70 percent increase in new cases of cancer in the next two decades.

About 8.2 million people die yearly from cancer, an estimated 13 percent of deaths worldwide.

WHO noted that there are over 100 cancer types, each requiring unique diagnosis and treatment.

You must face trial over corruption allegation - Court tells Stella Oduah


A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined former Aviation Minister Mrs. Stella Oduah’s request to stop the Federal Government from investigating her tenure between 2011 and 2015 and prosecuting her.

Justice Adamu Kafarati who gave the ruling yesterday held that the fundamental right enforcement suit by Mrs. Oduah lacked merit and bereft of any cause of action.

Justice Kafarati upheld the objection raised by the respondents, to the effect that the court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to hear the case, which subject matter was outside the ambit of Chapter Four of the Constitution.

Federal Government to Buy Vehicles worth N3.5 Billion from Local Manufacturers


The federal government has given its nod for the purchase of 350 operational vehicles for the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS. This followed a memo presented by the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulraman Dambazzau (rtd) to the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

Militants give conditions to Buhari for amnesty


A group of Niger Delta militants operating in Rivers State has made a 10-point demand that must be met before they will accept the amnesty offered by Wike.

The group, which identified itself as Egi Freedom Fighters, warned that it would reject the state amnesty programme, unless all the conditions were met.

The militants, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, and signed by their spokesperson, Jennifer Black, requested the rebuilding of houses destroyed during a military raid of Egiland.

Western policies impeding Nigeria from improving Power Supply - Kemi Adeosun


The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has accused western powers of being a stumbling block to Nigeria’s plan to improve power output through the use of coal.
