Presidential Aide slam PDP, says they are angry because Buhari does not share dollars


A Presidential Aide, Lauretta Onochie on Sunday said that Nigeria was safer and better under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari than it was under former President Jonathan.

Onochie, a Personal Assistant on Social Media to President Buhari, stated this in an article in response to the comment by People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Director of New Media, Mr Deji Adeyanju.

It would be recalled that Adeyanju had said that the 2016 Independence Anniversary was the worst since 1960, adding that the current administration was breaking rules of law and infringing on rights.

Zambia name 23-man squad for face Super Eagles


Zambia has announced the names of 23 players, that have been selected by coach Wedson Nyirenda, for this Sunday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Kennedy Mweene, Nathan Sinkala and Jackson Mwanza made the cut, while FC Ural’s Chisamba Lungu and Lille’s Stoppila Sunzu are the only two European-based pros.

Nyirenda has however left out Racha Kola, Donashano Malama, Billy Mutale, Spencer Sautu, Patson Daka and Justin Shonga from the 23-man squad.

The Italian leaves following a run of bad results, during which he won just one of 11 Championship matches.

The former Cameroon defender was rushed to hospital in Yaounde on Sunday after collapsing at his home in the Odza neighborhood.

Federal Government allegedly spends N3.1bn to build 'VIP' toilets

The Federal Government reportedly spent between 40 and 50million naira to construct toilets and bathrooms in each Unity School across the country.

According to Daily Trust, the  government has over the years built dozens of these toilets termed “VIP toilets” in the unity schools.

It had spent a total of N3.1 billion to build VIP toilets and bathrooms in 64 unity schools in 2014 and 2015, according to the investigation.

Yoshinori Ohsumi of Japan on Monday won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on autophagy a process whereby cells “eat themselves” which when disrupted can cause Parkinson’s and diabetes.

Autophagy is a fundamental process in cell physiology with major implications for human health and disease.

The process is essential for the orderly degradation and recycling of damaged cell parts and its failure is believed to be responsible for ageing and cell damage.

NLC warns FG that Nigeria is not for sale


The Nigerian Labour Congress  (NLC) yesterday reiterated its position against the sale of national assets, warning the federal government that ‘Nigeria is not for sale.’

While stating the position of organised labour on the independence anniversary, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba argued that government should rather focus on strengthening the economy and  ensuring a sustainable society than making attempt to place Nigeria on sale.

He said: “I salute the extraordinary resilience and patriotism of the average Nigerian. When all seems down and out, we always find ways of overcoming our adversaries.

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr arrive Abuja ahead of Zambia Clash


Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, and some of his assistants arrived in Abuja on Sunday to commence preparations for next week’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zambia in Ndola.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation on their official website, Rohr flew into Abuja aboard an Air France flight in company with technical assistant Jean Luc Royer and video analyst Nabil Trabelsi.

Nigerian Students’ Arrest | Nigeria, Turkey may clash


A diplomatic row may be brewing between Nigeria and Turkey following the arrest  and deportation of some Nigerian students from Istanbul by the Turkish police.

Rukkaya Usman, one of the Nigerian students deported from the country, said the Turkish government did not give a reason for the action.

Usman, a final year student of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Melikseh, told TheCable on Saturday that she arrived in Turkey at 8am on September 26, but that she was detained at the airport for about 10 hours after which she was placed on  a plane and flown back to Nigeria.

In Colombia | Voters Reject Peace Deal


Voters in Colombia have narrowly rejected a landmark peace deal with FARC rebels in a referendum result which showed 50.24% voting against it.

Federal Government map out 3-year plan for major roads in six geopolitical zones


Determined to ensure equitable development of road infrastructure across the country, the Federal Government has evolved a three-year plan for the implementation of major road projects in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, who disclosed this at the just-concluded National Council on Works meeting in Katsina yesterday, said the plan, which would be implemented between 2017 and 2019, was already being shared with the Ministry of Budget and Planning for inclusion in the 2017 budget and future national planning data.
