Over fifty petroleum tankers have so far been destroyed in a fire outbreak at the Ekpan Tankers Park near the Warri Refinery in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The inferno which began at about 7pm on Friday was still raging at about 10am on Saturday.

6-year-old boy dies days after South Carolina School Shooting


A 6-year-old boy who was critically wounded in a school shooting died Saturday, days after a 14-year-old boy opened fire on a school playground, authorities said.

Jacob Hall had been fighting for his life at a hospital after a bullet struck him in a main artery in his leg, causing him a major brain injury due to the loss of blood. Jacob died about 1 p.m. Saturday, and an autopsy will be done Sunday, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said. The hospital will release more details about his death, the coroner said.

38-year-old alleged rapist attempts suicide in court


A mild drama at the Rivers State Judiciary complex in Port Harcourt Friday when a suspect charged to court for allegedly raping his daughter tried to commit suicide within the court premises.

The 38-year old man, Ibinabo Franklin, is facing a charge of sexual assault and incest before the Port Harcourt Magistrates’ Court.

The accused who confessed of having carnal knowledge of his 17-year old daughter was remanded in prison custody by Chief Magistrate F.N. Amanze.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has assured the people of Edo State that the Governor-elect, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and the All Progressives Congress family will not betray the trust and confidence reposed in them through their mandate.

Ajimobi gave the assurance through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, in a congratulatory message to Obaseki.

Man says the 8-year-old he raped enjoyed it and he did it because he was sex-starved


A 36-year-old father of three, identified as Mr. Itorobong Iyang, told journalists yesterday that he was sex starved and drunk when he defiled his 8-year-old neighbour’s daughter.

50 Nigerian Students Arrested by Turkish Government in connection to failed Coup


Reports have it that over 50 Nigerian students were yesterday apprehended in Turkey, allegedly on the orders of the Turkish government.

A source whose relative was among the detained students told ThisDay that “upon arrival at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, they were all escorted to a room and their passport confiscated by Turkish police.”

The detained Nigerians are mainly students of Fathi University, one of the private universities in Turkey. The school which is located in the metropolitan Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul, Turkey and was founded in 1996 with a relatively high rate of international students from 102 countries.

House of Rep rejects motion to re-introduce toll gates nationwide


The House of Representatives has rejected a motion to re-introduce toll gates on roads. Rejecting the motion sponsored by Rep Francis Charles Uduyok (PDP, A/Ibom), the House said Nigerians should not be subjected to another form of hardship, especially at a time the country was in hardship.

Uduyok had in his motion said Nigerian roads were in bad conditions and that toll gates would help in maintenance and construction of interstate roads.
