We never expected 876 votes - APGA rejects results of #EdoDecides


The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), one of the political parties that took part in Edo State governorship election on Wednesday, has condemned the outcome of the election.

The National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Victor Oye, condemned the outcome of the election, describing the way his party was treated as contemptuous, callous and malicious.

Edo State | Teachers rejoice over Obaseki’s emergence as Governor


The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed happiness over the victory of Godwin Obaseki at the Wednesday governorship election.

The Chairman of the union, Mr Mike Uhumwangho told newsmen in Benin that the entire teachers in the state were happy over the result of the election.

Nigeria records huge success in battle against HIV/AIDS


Nigeria has scored a major success in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has announced.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NACA said Nigeria has moved from a high prevalence rate of over 5.8 % in the year 2001 to less than 3% prevalence rate in 2014. This means less than 3% tested for the virus in selected areas of the country are infected.

Notwithstanding, NACA said HIV\AIDS still remains an epidemic.

Support Buhari and Forget Biafra - Okechukwu to Igbos


The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, has said the actualisation of the Republic of Biafra is no longer feasible.

He, therefore, requested ethnic Igbos to call the agitators to order, do a rethink and support President Muhammadu Buhari “in constructing a prosperous and progressive Nigeria”.

According to him, with the unwritten zoning convention for the rotation of political power in the country, the Igbo race in the South East zone would likely produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.

Engr. Segun Oni, former governor of Ekiti State and Deputy national chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress APC has criticized the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for causing depression and economic recession.

Engr Oni said this i an interview with Vanguard Newspaper on Thursday.

Cross River | Troops kill 7 Bakassi militants


Troops of 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Friday killed 7 Bakassi militants who attacked its position in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer (APRO) of the 13 brigade, Nigerian army, Calabar, Captain Kayode Owolabi, the army said wanted leader of the group, Benjamin Ene alias G1 led the attack.

Mikel Obi prefers to play as a second holding midfielder as against the more defensive position he plays at his Premier League club Chelsea, according to Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf.
“Mikel prefers to play as second holding midfielder and not the more defensive position he plays at Chelsea,” Yusuf revealed on a television interview programme Friday morning.

APC Group to Tinubu: John Oyegun is a man of honour, integrity


The Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, United Front, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, has described the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as a man of integrity, who has transformed the ruling party into a progressive one.

Musa said this against the backdrop of calls by one of the party’s national leaders, Ahmed Tinubu that Oyegun should resign.

Tinubu had demanded the resignation of Oyegun , following the party’s decision to submit the name of Rotimi Akeredolu  to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as its governorship candidate in Ondo State, despite the party’s Appeal Panel calling for a cancellation of the election.

Three Nigerians men and a woman, together with eleven other accomplices currently on the run, were charged in the Court of First Instance on Thursday, September 29th, with attacking two Pakistani men and robbing them of millions in different currencies, belonging to their employer.

The 11 others on the run, including another woman, are being accused in the same case of possessing the stolen money.  The defendants, all Nigerians are currently in detention.

Man bags death sentence for killing his girlfriend on Valentine's Day


A 33-year-old engineer who murdered his girlfriend on Valentine's Day three years ago has been sentenced to death.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Collin Lawrence Sequerah said the accused, Cheong Teik Keon, was found guilty of killing Tan Ching Chin, 24, a clerk, was accused of committing the offence against Tan at her home at No. 2703, Taman Hwa Seng, Jalan Rozhan, Alma, in Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia, at about 8.40am on Feb 14, 2013.

An elderly agent of the All Progressives Congress, APC, reportedly slumped and died on Wednesday, at a polling unit in Abico Market unit 10 ward eight in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. 

The deceased identified as Mr. Solomon Omorogbe, 58, left his house to his polling unit early in the morning where he was to serve as a polling agent for the just concluded gubernatorial election.

EFCC arraign two in Enugu over 1.5 Million Land Scam

Gender Equality bill passes second reading at the senate


The Gender Equality Opportunity (GEO) Bill which suffered major setback in March this year, passed for second reading at the senate today September 29th.

The bill which is being sponsored by Senator Biodun Olujimi, seeks to amongst other things address women's freedom of movement, female economic activity, girls' access to education, equal rights for women in marriage, divorce, property/land ownership and inheritance, appropriate measures against gender discrimination in political and public life and prohibitions of violence to women.

Buhari salutes Obaseki on Edo Election Victory


President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the government and people of Edo State on the successful conclusion of the governorship election, and the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Godwin Obaseki at the polls.

The President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Irate Youths Burnt Down Imo State General Hospital


Angry youths from restive communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday went wild and invaded Imo State General Hospital, Umugwuma, setting, at least, 10 vehicles ablaze as well as the state office of Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO).

According to an eye witness who narrated the incident, the youths who numbered over twenty were protesting the alleged killing of one of them by the state security outfit, Imo Network.
