Niger Delta youths plead with Avengers to stop bombing pipelines


As the Niger Delta Avengers called off their ceasefire and blew up an oil pipeline in Bonny, Rivers State, some youth leaders in the region have begged the group and other militants to stop further attacks.

The youth leaders, under the aegis of the Grand Council of Niger Delta Youth Leaders, met on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to assess the current situation in the region, after the Friday night bombing of the Bonny pipeline.

Ahead of the Wednesday’s rescheduled governorship election in Edo state, the Commander, 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Benbela Raji, has announced the deployment of 1,900 military personnel, six drones and six gunboats to the state.

Addressing reporters after a combined security meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday in Benin, Raji explained that the two drones will be deployed in each of the three senatorial districts and six gunboats for the riverine areas.

Raji disclosed that no military personnel would be found at either the voting or collation centres but they would cordon off adjoining routes to the polling units to prevent those that may want to cause havoc.

Cote d'Ivoire and PSG full-back Serge Aurier has been given a two-month suspended prison sentence for allegedly attacking a police officer.

Borno Government Says It Requires N30 Billion To Reconstruct Bama


The Borno State Government said on Monday that it required about N30 billion for the reconstruction of structures damaged by Boko Haram insurgents in Bama.

The Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Dr Babagana Umara, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Bama Local Government Area of the state.

Umara explained that more than 10,000 private houses were destroyed by insurgents in the town.

The prices of food items in Bauchi State have continued to crash after months of high food prices.

Reports reveal that the prices of food items have dropped by 50% in the state.

A bag of maize which few months ago was going for N18,000 now sells for N9,000 while local rice that used to cost N35,000 is now being sold at N20,000, a grain seller at Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi, Malam Adamu Kafin Maigari said.

Benue State | Three suspected kidnappers arrested (PHOTO)


Benue State Police Command have arrested 3 suspected kidnappers in Ohimini Local Government Area of the state.

According to the command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the arrest, the suspects namely Abdullahi Yahaya aka Oscar, Abubakar Hussain and Kelvin Ameh were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS following a tip- off.

The latest victim, one Fati Sanusi, a four-year-old nursery two pupil of Mega Stars Academy, located in Kpakungu, Minna, alleged that her food pack, prepared by her mother was snatched from her by a youth.
