A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Mr. Ogundare Lawrence Opeyemi, has slumped and died in Bayelsa State. Opeyemi, it was gathered, died in Nembe, Nembe Local Government Area, where he was posted for his primary assignment.

It was learnt that the deceased corps member slumped a day after he had a party with his colleagues in the area.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari today foreclosed any chance for a referendum as a path to bring healing and closure to the vexing issue of Biafra according to Sahara Reporters.

He made the statement during a media event in New York City at the end of his visit to the United States as the leader of Nigeria's delegation to the 71th United Nations' General Assembly. 

The president stated that the choice left for Biafran activists is to form a political party that would advance their interest within the Nigerian democratic space.

Police arrest man for defiling his 15-year-old daughter in Lagos

#BokoHaram: NUJ President says they are proud of second to none Nigeria Army


The Nigerian Union of Journalists on Saturday said residents of the North East can now sleep with their two eyes closed as a result of the gallantry of the Nigerian military, which has degraded the Boko Haram insurgents in the region.

The journalists also lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, for his leadership skills, which has restored glory to the Nigerian Army, while also commending the military for robust relationship with the media.

The President of the NUJ, Waheed Odusile, made the position of the Union known when he spoke at a parley between Buratai and the media.

Enugu State | Police arrests 17 robbers, cultists terrorizing community


The anti-cult unit of the Enugu State police command has  arrested 17 suspected members of a cult group and armed robbers, including young girls‎, who have been terrorizing residents of Agbani and neighbouring towns within Nkanu West local government area of the state.

A press statement from the command signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Unit at Agbani following intelligence information supplied by members of the public.‎

The first set of suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in cult-related activities, unlawful possession of firearms.

Police arrest Suspect in deadly Washington State Mall Shooting


The suspect in a shooting at a Washington state mall that left five dead and sparked an intensive, nearly 24-hour manhunt is in custody, authorities said Saturday.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Mark Francis identified the suspect via Twitter as 20-year-old Arcan Cetin of Oak Harbor, Washington.

Authorities announced earlier that the suspect had been apprehended Saturday evening. A news conference was scheduled for later Saturday night.

Baltimore Shooting: 3 gunmen shoot, wound 8 in attack - Reports


Three gunmen shot and wounded eight people including a 3-year-old girl on an east Baltimore street Saturday night, police said, adding the suspects fled and the victims were all expected to survive.

The shooting erupted outside some rowhouses about 8:30 p.m. after the three armed men converged on the group from different points, Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis told The Associated Press.

Davis, who went to the scene, said the shooting was a premeditated act of retaliatory violence in response to a Labor Day weekend shooting in which a person was fatally shot and two others were wounded, including a pregnant woman. He did not immediately explain how investigators believed the shootings were linked.

Buratai says No Local Government territory under Boko Haram control


The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has restated that no local government area in Borno or any territory in the North East Zone is being occupied by the Boko Haram sect.

Buratai spoke on Saturday while responding to questions at a special congress of the FCT Council of the NUJ.

The army chief, who said the military had routed the insurgents and was currently securing the region, noted that terrorism was complex and called for patience.
