Customs impound rice worth N597billion from Border Smugglers
The public relations officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Wale Adeniyi, has diclosed that between January and August 2016, the service has seized rice worth N597.7 billion brought into the country through the borders.
Speaking in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria, he said the worth of the commodity confiscated during the period was higher when compared with N330.5 billion value of the good seized in the same period in 2015.

Christine, a mother of four kids committed suicide by throwing herself in a well in Gituamba village, Subukia in Nakuru County on Monday, September 19.
According to Tuko, Christine jumped into the well within her home compound on Monday at 5.30am.
Her husband Anthony Kiragu fainted immediately after hearing the shocking news and was rushed to Faith Health Centre in Subukia town.

N74.6billion Fraud | EFCC seizes three mansions from ex-governor
Detained former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema’s three mansions have been seized over his alleged involvement in an N74.6billion fraud. The houses remain seized until the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concludes its probe of the allegation.
Shema was subjected to another round of grilling yesterday by the commission.

National Assembly | House adjourns sitting over member’s death
Resumption of plenary by the National Assembly after eights week recess failed on Tuesday following the announcement of the death of a member of the House of Representatives, Elijah Oluwatayo (APC-Lagos).
The aborted resumption was to mark the beginning of the second legislative year of the 8th assembly.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, while reading a letter from the family of the deceased, said Oluwatayo died on July 20, 2016 at the age of 66.
Dogara also announced the death of three former members of the House – Muhammed Useni, Alex Eze and Etim Atakpa.
He said Useni represented Makarfi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State from 1999 to 2003, while Eze represented Nsukka/Igboeze Constituency of Enugu State within the same period.
He said Atakpa represented Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal constituency of Akwa Ibom from 1992 to 1993 on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention.
Dogara said: “As a serving member is involved, and as the tradition of the House demands, we have to adjourn sitting till Wednesday to honour the deceased.”
The House of Representatives in the 8th National Assembly has recorded four deaths of members since inauguration in June 2015.

Cross River | Flood destroys over 4,000 houses, 13,000 farms
Flood destroyed no fewer than 4,070 houses and 13,147 farms in Cross River in August and September 2016, the state Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA) said on Tuesday.
The Director-General of the agency, John Inaku, gave the figures while addressing journalists in Calabar.
Mr. Inaku said 46 communities in seven local government areas were affected by the flood.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed passengers not to turn on or charge their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices on board aircraft following recent incidents and concerns raised by its manufacturers.
The aviation regulatory body gave the directive in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Relations, Mr Sam Adurogboye, which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Fuel (Gas) scarcity hits some US cities
Some states in the USA are experiencing fuel (gas) shortages especially states in the South-East of the country including Tennessee and Alabama.
The fuel shortage was sparked when a 330,000-gallon spill shut down a gasoline pipeline in Alabama on the 9th of September. This, in turn, led to a spike in fuel price.
This has become a problem as some cities have gone into panic prompting some people to start stockpiling fuel in their homes for fear of an all-out scarcity.
