Pastor in court for allegedly marrying another man’s wife, daughter as well as another woman


A pastor, Timothy Ngwu, was on Monday docked at an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for allegedly marrying another man’s wife, daughter as well as another woman.

The pastor’s wife, Veronica Ngwu, was said to have petitioned the court over the development.

The victims whom Mr. Ngwu converted to his “wives” were said to be members of his church: Gods’ Favour Ministry, Nsukka.

Budget Padding Scandal | Group calls on EFCC to probe National Assembly


A group named `Conscience Nigeria’, on Monday in Lagos, urged the EFCC to investigate the leadership of the House of Representatives over alleged N40 billion budget padding.

The Executive Director of Conscience Nigeria, Mr Tosin Adeyanju, made the plea during a peaceful protest at the Lagos office of the EFCC.

He called for the immediate interrogation of the principal officers of the House fingered in the allegation.

Lawyers hail FG’s stripping of police power to prosecute criminal cases


Lawyers in Lagos have given a groundswell of support to the Federal Government’s reform of the criminal justice system barring the police from prosecuting criminal cases in the country.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, had on Aug. 25 stripped the police of power to prosecute criminal cases.

The action was in line with the provisions of Section 106 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, he said.

Gene Wilder, star of Mel Brooks movies, dies at 83


Gene Wilder, the star of such comedy classics as "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles," has died. He was 83.

Wilder's nephew said Monday that the actor and writer died earlier this month in Stamford, Connecticut from complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Sergio Ramos says he was “surprised” his former Real Madrid teammate Iker Casillas was not included in Spain coach Julen Lopetegui’s first squad.

Lopetegui named Manchester United’s David De Gea, Napoli’s Pepe Reina and West Ham’s Adrian San Miguel as the three goalkeepers in his selection for the upcoming games against Belgium and Liechtenstein, which meant 35-year-old Porto keeper Casillas missed out.

Casillas, Spain’s most capped player with 167 appearances, lost his place to De Gea at Euro 2016 but Ramos said he had expected him to form part of the coach’s squad.

The Gombe State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has expressed concern over the use of illicit drugs among children under 15 years.

Mr Aliyu Adole, the state commander of the agency, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday that the trend was “worsening every day.”

Ondo monarch condemns placement of fetish objects at APC secretariat


Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, the Deji of Akure, has condemned the placing of fetish object at the Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akure on Monday morning.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Michael Adeyeye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji on Monday.

A former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Emeka Ezeh, on Monday said it was wrong to brand public servants as thieves, saying people go into government for different reasons.

The former BPP boss said this shortly after he was awarded the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award for Excellence by the West African Students Parliament, (WASP), in Abuja.

Tunisia’s new unity government takes office


The new Tunisian unity government took office in the birthplace of the Arab Spring Monday, with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, the country’s youngest-ever leader, facing major economic and security challenges.

At 40, Chahed is Tunisia’s youngest premier since independence from France in 1956, and the seventh in less than six years since the 2011 uprising that ousted strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Governor Okorocha says Imo Government owes pensioners N16bn


Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Monday said that the total pension burden hanging on Imo Government as at July, 2016, is more than N16 billion.

Okorocha, who made the disclosure during a news conference in Owerri, said his priority now is how to offset the pension burden.
“As we talk, my priority now is to clear the entire pension owe Imo retirees.

Nigerian universities develop anti-plagiarism software


The University of Ilorin in collaboration with six other Nigerian universities have developed an anti-plagiarism software, designed to check academic fraud.

According to the University Bulletin issued on Monday, the other universities are Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin and Covenant University, Ota.

Others are Delta State University Abraka, Benue State University Makurdi, University of Jos and Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife.

Yemen Suicide Attack Claims Dozens of Lives


Not less than 60 people have been killed after a suicide car bomb exploded at a military facility in the southern Yemen city of Aden.

Also hit was a training camp, used by the pro-government popular resistance militia.

Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Six Persons Rescued in Abuja Building Collapse, two still trapped


A four storey building under construction has collapsed in the early hours of Monday in the Gwarinpa District of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.

Six people have been rescued from the rubble and two others are still trapped.

While rescue effort is ongoing, the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Mr Abbas Idriss, believes the two persons trapped are alive.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to start the pilot phase of electronic procurement (E-Procurement) systems in six ministries.

The government says a total of 48 billion Naira is expected to be saved from the new initiative.

The teenager, Rere, as her distraught father fondly calls her passed away from an undisclosed ailment just a few hours after her 13th birthday.

She turned 13 years on Saturday, August 27th.
