Gombe State Governor says Fayose is a symbol of PDP


Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has described his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, as the symbol of their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said this in Ado-Ekiti while laying the foundation of a new hall in the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe Aladesanmi III.

EFCC Arrests Fraudster Over $ 145,000 Love Scam


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Iwuchukwu Uche over allegations of obtaining money under false pretense to the tune of $140,000.

The Commission, in a statement issued Thursday by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said Uche was arrested on Tuesday.

The Chile international has moved to the Etihad Stadium on a four-year deal to replace Joe Hart, who is now expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Manchester City has completed the signing of Claudio Bravo for a fee believed to be in the region of £17 million.

Bravo will earn around £100,000 per week after signing a four-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, almost double what he earned during his two-year spell at Camp Nou.

A two-term Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has offered himself for investigation over his alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram sect.

The former governor and factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continuously been linked with sponsorship of the deadly terrorist sect, in spite of his oft-repeated cries of innocence.

NEPC Boss says Nigeria Lost $30bn Oil Revenue In One Year


A whopping amount of $30billion in oil revenue was lost by Nigeria between 2014 and 2015, the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo, has disclosed.

Mr. Awolowo stated this in Abuja at the batch 3 graduation ceremony of 38 Zero to Export Capacity Building Programme beneficiaries.

British Council to help revive Nigeria’s dormant festivals, traditional games


The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Chief Executive of the British Council, Sir Ciaran Devane, with a request for partnership to help train festival managers, revive the country’s major festivals and prevent its traditional games from going extinct.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s media aide, Segun Adeyemi, the agreement was signed in Edinburgh, Scotland, on the sidelines of the ongoing 2016 Edinburgh International Festival Summit.

My wife beats and disrespects me - Physically challenged man tells court


A 46-year-old man, Ogah Alexander, on Thursday told a Mararaba Upper Area Court that his wife Helen, disrespects and beats him to pulp.

Alexander, of Aso C Mararaba, told the court that “my wife beats and disrespects me because I am deformed in one side of my hands”.

He urged the court to dissolve his 13-year-old marriage to Helen contracted in 2003 and the marriage is blessed with four children for disrespect and beating.

Nigeria’s Ministers of Sports, Finance have cases to answer – Senator Ogba on #Rio2016 Performance


The Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba on Thursday, lamented the poor performance of Nigerian athletes in the just concluded Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Ogba attributed the poor performance of the athletes to non-release of funds meant for the exercise, recalling that his committee had invited the Minister of Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalong who repeatedly told the committee that funds were released to that effect.

Breaking: Police uncovers Baby Factory In Abia State (Photo)


A baby factory has been uncovered by the Abia state police command. The baby factory was uncovered at the Ogbor-Hill area of Aba in Abia state.

The police say five pregnant women were rescued from the baby factory.

Abia police also arrested a 54-year-old man, Nkem Nwokocha, and his wife, identified simply as a nurse, who were said to be the owners of the baby factory.

Borno State | NSCDC arrests 40-year-old man for raping IDP


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno on Thursday said that it had arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping an Internally Displaced Person (IDP).

Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, NSCDC Commandant in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that the 13-year-old victim from Chibok was staying with her aunt at the Colori Camp.

Ibrahim said that the suspect was arrested in Dala area of the state capital.

Osun State | 15-year-old nabbed for stealing cable wires


A 15-year-old boy, Ayo Oladele, was on Thursday brought before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun over the alleged theft of cable wires valued at about N300,000.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 21 at about midnight at the Halleluyah Estate, Osogbo.

Customs issues 24hrs automation for Cargoes to vacate Lekki deep seaport


The Zone ‘A’ Coordinator of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Assistant Comptroller-General Eporwei Edike, has said that cargoes should be leave Lekki deep seaport under 24 hours.

Edike stated this during an inspection tour of the Lagos Free Zone housing the sea port project and the Lekki Free Trade Zone on Wednesday.

The Customs boss said that his visit to the zones had to do with seeking avenues of increasing customs revenue at the free zones.

Rio 2016 Paralympics: Officials yet to name Team Nigeria


With barely two weeks to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the Nigeria Paralympics Committee (NPC) has yet to name the members of the Team to represent the country.

The Games are slated for Sept. 7 to Sept. 18 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

However, the athletes for Para-powerlifting and para-athletics are currently camped in Abuja, while the Para-table tennis players are in Lagos training at the Knock-up Hall of the National Stadium.

Lagos Police arrests notorious cult group Kingpin


A notorious cult member top on the list of police’s most wanted criminals, Oriyomi Balogun, popularly known as J-Prompt, was among suspected criminals paraded by the Lagos State Police Command yesterday.

Detectives at the command captured the cult leader few days ago after months on the trail of his gang that has been terrorizing residents of Shomolu, Pedro, Gbagada and Bariga axis of the state.

Police Service Commission to probe siege on Kwankwaso’s house


The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said it would investigate the circumstances that led to the blockade of the Kano residence of the former Governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, by policemen, penultimate week.

The Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, said the commission would also look into the role of the Kano State Police Commissioner over the stoppage of a mass wedding event for 2,000 indigent citizens of the state.

UNICEF decries Boko Haram violence says it is taking ‘devastating toll’ on children


Years of violence by Islamist Boko Haram militants have taken a “devastating toll” on children living in the Lake Chad basin, the United Nations Children’s Fund has said.

The insurgency displaced 1.4 million children in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger and left at least another one million trapped in areas that are hard to reach or under the control of Boko Haram, the agency said.

EFCC to interrogate 25 suspects over N5bn Army vehicles scandal


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched investigations into how the Army spent an N5billion vehicles purchase grant received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The grant was provided by ONSA to purchase vehicles ostensibly for the monitoring of the 2015 general elections.
