Coach Samson Siasia says 'He doesn’t know what He has done to offend Sports Minister'


Under 23 Olympics Bronze winning coach Samson Siasia has revealed that he's bewildered by the 'standoff' between him and Sports Minister Barr. Solomon Dalung.

Siasia's social media standoff with the minister started after the coach complained of the poor treatment and financial incentives he and his players received prior to the Olympics in Rio, Brazil, which then prompted the minister to say he wasn't aware of where the team was pre-Rio and even said he will discipline the U-23 national football team coach, Samson Siasia and every other team official who took to the media to vent his or her frustration, saying they were unethical.

Imo State | Police parade Mother, son who stole a day-old baby boy (PHOTOS)


The Imo State Police command on Monday arrested one Mrs Ngozi Anyanwu and her son, Goodluck Anyanwu, for allegedly stealing a baby boy from a maternity clinic in Isiala Mbano LGA of the state.

Parading them before newsmen, the Imo state Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu said that he received the news of the disappearance of a newborn baby on August 19, 2016, and efforts were immediately put in place to recover the child and arrest the Kidnappers. This turned out successful 48 hours later.

An unemployed man, Jamiu Abdul-Rafiu, who allegedly stabbed his friend with a broken bottle, has appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The accused, 32, whose address is unknown, was docked before Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju on assault.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Breaking: Earthquake of 6.8 magnitude strikes central Myanmar


An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude struck central Myanmar on Wednesday, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, shaking buildings across the country and the region.

The quake struck 143 km (88 miles) west of the city of Meiktila at a depth of 84 km (52 miles), the agency said.

The man identified as Francis Ayade was arrested on Tuesday is the managing director of Leophina Nigeria Limited and Hally Brown International Limited. He is said to have been involved in the alleged shady deals and diversion of public funds using accounts of his companies.

President Buhari says anti-corruption crusade will continue after my tenure


President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday pledged that the anti-corruption crusade in the country would be deepened and institutionalized to last beyond the life of the current administration.

Mr Femi Adesina, the president’s Senior Adviser on Media and Publicity, said in a statement that Buhari made the pledge when he received U. S. Secretary of State, Mr John Kerry, at the State House, Abuja.

The president stated that his administration was laying down administrative and financial instructions in the public service that must be obeyed.

Oyo State | Government to create 35 local council development areas


The Oyo State government on Tuesday disclosed that it would implement the 2002 gazetted law creating 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) out of the existing 33 local government areas in the state.

The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture, Toye Arulogun, said the move was in response to a correspondence from the Oyo State House of Assembly requesting the executive arm to create LCDAs in order to facilitate development at the grassroots.

Edo State | Black Axe and Eiye clash in Benin leaves three Dead


Three persons were killed in Benin City, Edo State, in a renewed cult clash that began on Sunday night.

One boy was killed at a popular bar on Sunday night along Sokponba road which led to reprisal attacks at Oyenwmosa Street and Second East Circular road on Tuesday morning.

One of the victims identified as Papa Obodo whose wife just delivered a baby boy had his head smashed.

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has been chosen by the Niger Delta Avengers militant group as one of the members of its dialogue group in the proposed dialogue with the federal government.

Mr. Ballantyne Agiri, the spokesman for the Dialogue Group, made this known to the New Telegraph on Tuesday.

Agiri hinted that the militants had set up a dialogue group to engage the Federal Government in meaningful dialogue as part of the initiatives to end the crisis rocking the Niger Delta region.

First Bank announces Patrick Iyamabo as new CFO


First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. on Tuesday announced the appointment of Mr Patrick Iyamabo as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The bank said in a statement issued in Lagos that the appointment followed the elevation of the former CFO, Dr Adesola Adeduntan, to the position of Managing Director of the bank.

According to the bank, Iyamabo’s appointment, still subject to approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is consistent with FirstBank’s focus on corporate governance best practice.

Troops on ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ have successfully repelled an attempted attack on their location by remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

The thwarted attack was targeted at personnel of the Nigerian Army stationed at Darul Jamel, on the fringes of the Sambisa forest in northern part of Borno State in northeast Nigeria.

Libya Government Repatriates 241 Nigerians

 

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on Tuesday facilitated the repatriation of 241 Nigerian returnees from Libya.

A breakdown of the figure indicated that 67 females were deported in which six of them were under the age of 18 and four others were below four years.
