NLC says lots of countries want Nigeria to split beacause they envy us


President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Wabba, says "most countries" are unhappy that Nigeria is the giant of Africa, and will, therefore, be happy to see the country disintegrate.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to succumb to external forces working very hard to break up the country.

Wabba, who made the appeal on Sunday while fielding questions at a NAN forum, said that the country's size, population, and natural endowments are assets that many other nations are envious of.

Benue State | Drunk Mobile Policeman allegedly Threatens Road Users with Gun (Photos)

Survey shows that some Nigerians want reduction of working days


Some stakeholders have expressed support for the decision of Imo and Benue governments to reduce working days to boost agricultural production in the country.

They stakeholders, in a nationwide survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the move as a step in the right direction.

The Benue Government had directed its workers to return to farm on Fridays while Imo earmarked Thursday and Friday for farming.

Mikel insists they won't Return $390,000 Donation


The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Rio Olympic bronze winning team led by Chelsea star, Mikel Obi are heading a collision course over the $390,000 donated to them by a Japanese fan.

On Saturday, the NFF issued a statement quoting president Amaju Pinnick as saying it was mischievous to say they planned to use the donation from the Japanese plastic surgeon Katsuya Takasu to offset mounting debts.

INEC reveals How they plan to stop inconclusive elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is to propose amendments to its guidelines to stem the spate of inconclusive elections through removing the eight million uncollected Permanent Voter Cards from its assessment of elections in the country.

Speaking to newsmen, weekend, INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, also denied claims that it had received legal advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation on legal knots that followed the inconclusive governorship election in Kogi State and the judicial tango that followed the court judgment on Abia State governorship election.

Abakaliki Jailbreak: Doctors commence treatment of wounded inmates


Doctors have commenced the treatment of 16 inmates who sustained gunshot wounds during last Thursday’s botched jailbreak at Abakaliki Prisons in Ebonyi State.

Prison authorities confirmed that six inmates died during the botched jailbreak.

Dr. Emeka Ogar, the Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, told newsmen on Sunday that surgeries were underway to extract bullets lodged in the bodies of the rampaging inmates.

Ooni of Ife urges preservation of Yoruba culture


The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has stressed the need to promote and preserve the Yoruba culture for the benefit of upcoming generations.

He stated this at the Third Festival Colloquium tagged “Tourism Potential in Yorubaland: Landmarks, Culture and History” held at the Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos at the weekend.

Governor Fayose | Nigeria must be restructured for true federalism to prevail


Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has lent his voice to those of other Nigerians calling for the restructuring of the country, saying it was strange that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was at the forefront of the agitation for true federalism was now against restructuring as the ruling party.

NBA President urges Buhari to fight corruption within the law

Nigerian pilgrims arrested for drug offence in Saudi Arabia released


Two Nigerian pilgrims arrested in Saudi Arabia over possession of substances alleged to be cocaine have been released, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has said.

A statement by the Commission issued in Abuja yesterday, said that the arrested pilgrims from Kwara State were released following investigation that they were not culpable for the offence.

Abia State | Government moves to check land encroachment


Determined to end encroachment on acquired land, Abia State Government has constituted two committees to investigate and recover all property illegally encroached upon by its citizens.

The committees named “Title Re-verification Committee” are being assigned to work in Aba and Umuahia Divisions. It has a mandate to verify all those occupying government lands to establish if government’s interest in such property has seized so that the affected lands could be documented for authenticity.

NCC reveals Inactive telephone lines increase to 67m in June


The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says inactive lines in the country’s telecommunications industry have increased from 65,186,763 in May to 67,331,498 in June 2016.

This is contained in the “Monthly Subscriber Data’’ report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

The report indicated that there were an additional 2,144,735 inactive numbers within the period, making the unused lines increase to 67,331,498 in June.
