Celtic fans to pay UEFA fine for Palestinian flags


Celtic fans have vowed to foot the bill for a possible fine handed down by UEFA after the European governing body opened disciplinary proceedings against the club for ‘illicit banners’ being displayed during their recent win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Around 100 Palestinian flags were held up by supporters in the new safe-standing area at Celtic Park prior to the UEFA Champions League play-off first-leg tie against the Israeli side last Wednesday.

Abia State | Government moves to check land encroachment


Determined to end encroachment on acquired land, Abia State Government has constituted two committees to investigate and recover all property illegally encroached upon by its citizens.

The committees named “Title Re-verification Committee” are being assigned to work in Aba and Umuahia Divisions. It has a mandate to verify all those occupying government lands to establish if government’s interest in such property has seized so that the affected lands could be documented for authenticity.

NCC reveals Inactive telephone lines increase to 67m in June


The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says inactive lines in the country’s telecommunications industry have increased from 65,186,763 in May to 67,331,498 in June 2016.

This is contained in the “Monthly Subscriber Data’’ report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

The report indicated that there were an additional 2,144,735 inactive numbers within the period, making the unused lines increase to 67,331,498 in June.

A man identified as Taiwo Adio allegedly murdered his wife and three others with a pestle in Sokoto State on Saturday, August 20th.

The spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, El-mustapha Sani, who confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen in the state, said the incident occurred at the old Airport Area of Sokoto city.

DELSU sacks 6 lecturers for gross misconduct


Six lecturers of the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, have been sacked by the institution’s Governing Council for various offences ranging from extortion, sexual harassment, leaking of examination questions, to bribery and corruption. 

The sack of the lecturers is coming on the heels of the recommendation by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee of the university who indicted the lecturers for the offences.

Odigie Oyegun says APC won’t impose, endorse any candidate


The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured aspirants seeking to contest the Ondo State gubernatorial election on the party platform of no preferential treatment. The APC Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said this on Saturday in Abuja during a meeting to settle all disputes and allay the fears of the aspirants.

The gubernatorial aspirants had accused the party chairman in the state, Chief Isaac Kekemeke, of adopting, endorsing an aspirant and tampering with the delegates’ list. The party members in the state promptly suspended Kekemeke. Assuring the aspirants of fair play, Odigie-Oyegun paid tribute to all the aspirants for promptly responding to the call for the peace meeting.

Suicide bomber kills 3 in north Cameroon, 20 injured


Three civilians were killed and around 20 others wounded on Sunday in a suicide attack in northern Cameroon, officials and a vigilante group said. 

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a security official told AFP the attack took place in Mora, a town in Cameroon’s far north near the Nigerian border an area which has suffered repeatedly from attacks by Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamists. 

Chinese Government to buy up Liverpool for $1bn


Premier League giants Liverpool are the target of an 800 million pounds ($1 billion, 924 million euros) takeover bid backed by the Chinese government, British newspaper the Sunday Times reported. 

China Everbright, a state-backed financial firm, are leading the bid, backed by the country’s main sovereign wealth fund, the China Investment Corporation (CIC), the paper said.

Talks between the Chinese group and Liverpool’s American owners, the Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are ongoing, the Sunday Times said. 

Nigeria needs $7bn to revive Mines, Steel industry


Nigeria is looking for investments of $7 billion in mining and steel over the next decade as it seeks to develop gold and iron ore extraction industries to diversify its oil-dependent economy. One of the government’s priorities is to meet its annual steel demand of 6.8 million metric tons, from a current output of a third of that, produced mainly from scrap iron, Solid Minerals Development Minister Kayode Fayemi said. 
“About $5 billion will kick-start the mining sector,” Fayemi stated. “In two to five years, we want to have started production of iron ore, lead, zinc, bitumen, nickel, coal and gold at a serious scale.” Companies considering investments in Nigeria’s mining sector include Lagos-based Multiverse Mining & Exploration Plc and Kogi Iron Ltd., based in West Perth, Australia, he said.

Oyo state police command have arrested 43 year old Yisua Adeleke(left) for bathing his lover, Mrs Morufa Ajoke Odesanya (right) with acid after he found out she was married and not a widow as she claimed previously.

According to Tribune, on November 25th, Yisua invited Morufa who is 36 years old with five children, to their love nest and then poured the corrosive substance on her. He went into hiding for months until he was arrested on August 7th this year. Narrating how it happened, Yisua said;
