Essential elements of intelligence and the intelligence cycle in overseas relations include what is better described as “the cover story”. It is an old conundrum referring to the story that is put out to the public and sustained as a narrative to mask far more strategic interests in government-to- government relations.

It is based on that established thin line between the right to know and the need to know and indeed in diplomatic relations, if ordinary people are allowed to know everything, there will be utter chaos on the streets around the world.

Transporters set to Increase Fares By 70% to Improve Efficiency

Four females barred from travelling for Hajj in Bauchi

Four female intending pilgrims from Bauchi State were barred from performing the 2016 Hajj Pilgrimage, the state’s Deputy Amirul Hajji, Alhaji Kawuwa Damuna, said on Saturday.

Damuna, who is also the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, said that three of the intending pilgrims were discovered to be pregnant, while the fourth was disqualified on health grounds.

He said that officials of the state medical team discovered the pregnant intending pilgrims during their final screening.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday denied any involvement in the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party.

Atiku was reacting to a story in a national newspaper, which linked him with the crisis in the party.

In a post on Twitter by his media office, Atiku said he had no hands in the PDP’s problems.

Sri Lanka airline suspends drunk pilot

Sri Lanka’s national carrier has suspended a captain who failed a breathalyser test just before he was due to fly 274 passengers and crew from Frankfurt to Colombo, the airline said Sunday.

“Upon receiving the results (of the test) SriLankan Airlines took immediate steps to suspend the services of the said captain and took alternative measures to operate the flight to Colombo,” the airline said in a statement.

A blast at an outdoor wedding party in the south Turkish city of Gaziantep has killed at least 50 people and injured 94 more, the authorities say.

The blast, which occurred at around 11pm local time on Saturday in the Akdere neighbourhood of Sahin Bey district, was a "terror attack", according to Ali Yerlikaya, the governor of Gaziantep.
