Brazil claimed their first Olympic Football Tournament gold in the most dramatic of finals, with Neymar scoring the winning penalty in a shoot-out to defeat Germany 5-4, following a game that had finished 1-1 after 120 minutes. Brazil’s Neymar had opened the scoring, with Max Meyer levelling in the second half. With no more goals in extra-time, the game went to penalties, with Weverton saving Nils Petersen's spot-kick before Neymar scored the golden penalty.

The atmosphere before kick-off was crackling with anticipation, with scores of Brazilian fans milling around the Maracana hours before the game got underway. The Brazilian national anthem was greeted with a deafening Brazilian crowd, who sang along with gusto.

Chief Williams Mkpah, the Transitional Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area has said that sea pirates kidnapped eight fishermen fishing in Akwa Ibom.

Mkpah confirmed the kidnap in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom on Saturday.

According to him, Ibeno is prone to sea piracy activities.

Police AIG request case files of man who named dog Buhari

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone II Command Headquarters in Lagos, Abdulmajid Ali, had called for the transfer of the case file of a man alleged to have named his dog ‘Buhari.’

Ali said the case should be transferred to his desk without delay.

“For now, the AIG Zone II has called for a meeting that we want to call the parties involved in the matter to see how the matter could be resolved,” Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told Premium Times.

Police say they have arrested three people suspected to be pipeline vandals in Akwa Ibom State.

The three suspects were among seven suspected criminals paraded before journalists at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, the state’s capital in southeast Nigeria.

Parading the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cordelia Nwawe, said the suspects were arrested at a hotel in Eket, following intelligence reports.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been elected as the President of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB).

Mr Emefiele was elected at the 39th ordinary meeting of the Assembly of Governors of the AACB in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He succeeds Mr Lucas Nchama who is now the Governor of the Bank Of Central African States.

Mr Emefiele would be President of the AACB from 2016 to 2017.

Nigerian Army flushes insurgents out of Bauchi forests

The Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, Brigadier General Abraham Dusu, said the military has embarked on an operation to flush out insurgents and other criminal elements in Bauchi State forests.
