Bayelsa State Chief Judge’s son dies in ‘Abuja pool’


The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has expressed deep shock over the untimely death of Wariebi Abiri, son of Justice Kate Abiri, the Chief Judge of the State.

A statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Mr. Dickson made the lamentation after paying a condolence visit to the Chief Judge at her residence in Yenagoa.

A graduate of law and a student of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, late Abiri reportedly died in a swimming pool last Friday night in the Federal capital Territory, Abuja.

Eye witnesses’ account re­vealed that the dead woman popularly known as “lya Majeo­baje” fell into the well on Friday while fetching water to clean the mosque.

Chief Williams Mkpah, the Transitional Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area has said that sea pirates kidnapped eight fishermen fishing in Akwa Ibom.

Mkpah confirmed the kidnap in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom on Saturday.

According to him, Ibeno is prone to sea piracy activities.

Police AIG request case files of man who named dog Buhari


The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone II Command Headquarters in Lagos, Abdulmajid Ali, had called for the transfer of the case file of a man alleged to have named his dog ‘Buhari.’

Ali said the case should be transferred to his desk without delay.
“For now, the AIG Zone II has called for a meeting that we want to call the parties involved in the matter to see how the matter could be resolved,” Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told Premium Times.

Police say they have arrested three people suspected to be pipeline vandals in Akwa Ibom State.

The three suspects were among seven suspected criminals paraded before journalists at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, the state’s capital in southeast Nigeria.

Parading the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cordelia Nwawe, said the suspects were arrested at a hotel in Eket, following intelligence reports.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been elected as the President of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB).

Mr Emefiele was elected at the 39th ordinary meeting of the Assembly of Governors of the AACB in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He succeeds Mr Lucas Nchama who is now the Governor of the Bank Of Central African States.

Mr Emefiele would be President of the AACB from 2016 to 2017.

Bayelsa State | Police arrest two officers for mounting roadblocks


Two officers working in the Bayelsa State Police command have been arrested for mounting roadblocks against the directive of the Force Headquarters.

It was gathered that the new state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, ordered the arrest of the unidentified indicted officers following an investigation.

Ogunjemilusi, who confirmed the arrest at the weekend said it would send strong message to other officers and men of the police in the command.
