Olusegun Obasanjo | “It’s Good Night For The PDP”


Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the recent crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has shown that the party’s era had come to an end.

Mr. Obasanjo disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in Jalingo, the Capital City of Taraba, during a tour of some projects in the state.

When asked to comment on the ongoing crisis in his former party, the PDP, Mr. Obasanjo simply said “in the part of the country where I come from, there is a saying that you cannot say ‘good night’ and come to say ‘good evening’ in the same place.

NFF refutes Dalung's claims that the Olympic team wasn't stranded in Atlanta


The Nigeria Football Federation has strongly rejected insinuations made by the Minister of Sports Barr. Solomon Dalung in a recent TV interview that the Nigeria Olympic football team being stranded in Atlanta, was a hoax.

In the interview on Thursday, Dalung hinted that shady deals by the NFF were behind the country’s football team being stranded for several days at their training base in Atlanta, before they finally made their way to the Olympics in Brazil.

Electricity Worker Electrocuted In Kano (PHOTOS)


A 37-year-old official of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company [KERDCO], Usaini Usman, was electrocuted while disconnecting an electricity cable in Kano yesterday August 19th. Usaini lost his life after his head made contact with a high tension power line at the Federal College of Education, Kano. He was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

EFCC Boss vows not to spare anyone


The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, yesterday said that the agency would not spare corrupt officers in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.

He said that the era of impunity is over in the country as EFCC under his watch would be a “leveler”.

Magu, who made the submissions in a paper titled “This Is Our Chance” at the Symposium organised by members of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADL) in Lagos, said: “In the past, it was so easy to simply wring our hands in self-pity and console ourselves that we had done our best and if others elect not do theirs, we were not to blame. Bravo! Nigerian Airforce test fires locally weaponized Aircraft


The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday successfully test fired another locally weaponized Alpha Jet aircraft acquired from overseas without weapon delivery capability. The latest feat makes the third Alpha Jet aircraft to be so reconfigured and weaponised locally.

The NAF, at the heat of the Boko Haram insurgency, had acquired three Alpha Jet aircraft from private individuals in the United States however without combat capability. Subsequent efforts to use foreign vendors to re-militarise the aircraft proved abortive for several reasons.

Niger Delta Militants Blow Up Two NPDC Pipelines In Delta


Gunmen suspected to be Niger Delta militants, on Friday, blew up two pipelines belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, in Delta State.

The attack which occurred at about 2am on Friday was said to have bee carried out by a new militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, Vanguard reports.

A manhunt has been launched by the Nigerian Police in Abuja for a Ghanaian identified as Asiedu Ofei, and a Nigerian named Femi, reportedly notorious for producing fake currencies.

According to a report by Punch Metro, Ofei who was arrested sometime in July, 2016 in Ekiti State with seven cartons filled with counterfeited naira notes and cedis, had led the police operatives to apprehend his gang members in Seme, Lagos State, when he escaped.

Borussia Dortmund have announced a record turnover of €376.3 million over the financial year between July 1 2015 and June 30 2016, an increase of 36.6 percent compared to the previous year.

Sokoto Sultan says there is No plan to Islamize Nigeria


The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III have cleared the air over suspicion of a grand plan to turn Nigeria into an Islamic State.

Sultan stated categorically that, it is not possible for a multi-religious nation like Nigeria to either be Islamized or Christianised.

He stated this Friday, at the commissioning of the International Centre for Inter-Faith Peace and Harmony’s office in Kaduna.

Police recruitment: PSC shortlists 110,469 applicants


The Police Service Commission on Friday said it shortlisted 110,469 applicants out of the 338, 250 applicants invited for the just concluded screening at the states and FCT Police Commands.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Mike Okiro, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday said the aptitude tests for the successful candidates would begin on August 22 across the 36 states and FCT.

He said that out of the 110, 469 applicants, 22, 454 were shortlisted for Cadet ASPs, 24, 456 for Cadet Inspectors and 63, 559 for Police Constables.

Nigerians Studying in Private Schools in Turkey move to Public Schools


Nigerian students currently studying in Turkish private universities that have been shut down in the wake of the failed coup, have now been transferred to public schools where they will pay very little or no tuition, the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Çakıl, has said.

A statement issued by the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations) in the Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong, said Cakil made the clarification during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, on Friday in Abuja.
