How to bridge Nigeria’s $2 trillion infrastructure deficit – Experts


If Nigeria must bridge its infrastructure deficit, which is expected to take about $2 trillion in the next three decades, a holistic approach must be developed to address key challenges for sustainable development.

According to experts, who gathered at an advocacy roundtable organised by the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce in Lagos, desired national economic development will remain a mirage unless necessary actions are taken to give face-lift to the infrastructure shortfall.

Indeed, a 30-year roadmap infrastructure development plan, known as the Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP), had projected that Nigeria required at least $2 trillion (N398.1 trillion) for infrastructure development over the next three decades.

Orido during his formal registration as APC member in the state, praised the Chairman of APC in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state, Olorogun Ekure Felix, “for his robust leadership qualities,” noting that the extent of Nigeria’s wealth looted and stashed in Switzerland was “enough to run the Swiss government for about 100 years.”

Soldiers have launched a manhunt for publishers of pro-Biafra newspapers in Aba, Abia state.

A vendor who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that a group of soldiers accosted him and some of his colleagues demanding them to disclose the identity of the publishers of the Biafra newspapers circulating in the city.

It was gathered that one of the vendors identified as Emeka is suspected to have been arrested by soldiers.

Chevron says it spends $3.6 billion on local content in Nigeria


Chevron Nigeria spent $3.6 billion on Nigeria content in 2015 as part of its commitment to local capacity building in boosting local economies and creating job opportunities.

The company said in its 2015 Corporate Responsibility Report that it consistently reserves significant portions of job scopes to benefit indigenous companies and community contractors from areas close to its operations.

According to the report, Chevron established the first and only simulation training facility for operations and maintenance training in Nigeria, which is operated by a local contractor.

Bayelsa State | Thugs attack protesting council workers, journalists


There was pandemonium at the secretariat of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Tuesday as thugs descended heavily on workers protesting backlog of unpaid salaries.

The thugs reportedly used bottles, stones and other weapons in the attack that injured the workers who were demanding the release of the Federal Government’s bailout fund.

Journalists were not also spared in the attack as some of them sustained injuries and had to scale the fence to escape the violence.
