Ahmed Makarfi inaugurates PDP National Executive Committee (PHOTOS)


Factional leader of PDP and Chairman of the party's Caretaker committee, Ahmed Makarfi, has inaugurated the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. According to the Caretaker Committee Chairman, formal inauguration of the NEC was necessary to enlarge the decision-making organ of the party.  The inaugurated NEC members went into closed-door meeting shortly after his 5-minutes speech promising to brief the press after the meeting.

A sympathetic and kindhearted Ohio Police police officer Steve Dunham, from Franklin Police Department has told about how he fed a seven-year-old boy he found wandering the streets trying to sell his teddy bear to buy food so he can eat.

According to Officer Steve Dunham, he was responding to reports of a boy seen walking alone when he found the child and was touched to take the boy out for lunch.

Officer Dunham told WLWT5: “He told me he was trying to sell his stuffed animal to get money for food because he hadn’t eaten in several days.”

The PRO of the Nigerian Police Force, DCP Donald Amunah has defended the sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention venue in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, today. Speaking as a guest on Channels TV Sunrise Daily, he said;
"The Police is an institution established by law and we obey the court orders and rule of law. In an event of conflicting court orders, what do you do? We are neutral. The IG has been served court orders in Abuja and so we have to obey the orders. If this court order has to be obeyed, what do we do about the venue? We take control of the venue to avoid two worrying parties conflicting, to protect lives and properties.”

One of Nigeria's footballers sent back to Nigeria from Rio de Janeiro after they were told by Nigerian Football officials that their feeding and living expenses can no longer be catered, has lamented how they were thrown out of the team’s hotel and had to spend their own money to pay for the two nights they spent in Brazil before coming back to Nigeria.

The Nigerian Football Federation ordered two alternate players Stanley Dimgba and Yusuf Mohammed as well as several unnecessary officials to head back to Nigeria as they could no longer be catered for, and one of the players who prefers to remain anonymous has now cried out.

Nigeria is set to witness an annular eclipse and an appeal is currently being made to the general public to avoid viewing the natural occurrence with n*ked eyes. 

An annular eclipse that will be visible all over the country, with different degrees of totality, will occur on Thursday, September 1.

In a press statement, the Head, Media and Corporate Communications of National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Felix Ale, said the highest degree of obscurity in Nigeria during this natural occurrence would be in the Southern part of the country, particularly in Lagos, where it was expected to have 80 per cent obscurity, while the lowest degree of obscurity would be about 45 per cent and this would be observed in the Northern part of the country, particularly in Sokoto.

Kenya bans weddings at Night in Mombasa after robberies


Night weddings have been banned in Kenya’s coastal region of Mombasa as the authorities say they have become a target for criminals.

The county’s commissioner said the decision was taken after an increase in attacks by knife-wielding gangs.

Wedding ceremonies in Mombasa can last for as long as five days and include parties that go on late into the night.
