Usain Bolt clocks 9.81 seconds to win his third consecutive gold medal in the men's 100m sprint on a historic day nine at the Rio Olympics.

He crossed the line first, securing his place as the greatest sprinter of all time. Justin Gatlin of the United States was second in 9.89, and Andre de Grasse of Canada was third in 9.91. Bolt celebrated after his win while carrying a plush Vinicius, the Games mascot.

Abuja-Kaduna Rail Service bags N5 Million Income in 2 Weeks


The Abuja-Kaduna train service seems to be raking in alot of funds for the federal government at a critical period when all hands have been on deck to salvage the economy in the face of dipping oil revenue. 

The Abuja-Kaduna train service recorded N5 million income within the first two weeks of operation, Mr Fidet Ikhiria, Acting Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has said.

Ikhiria made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while travelling on the train from Abuja to Kaduna on Saturday. The Managing Director of NAN, Mr Bayo Onanuga and the Editor-in-Chief, NAN, Mr Ado Lawal, were also on board.

The Federal Government has said it is doing everything possible to secure the release of the Chibok girls, and put an end to the horrible saga of their abduction.

Reacting to the latest video of some of the girls, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja that the government is in touch with those purportedly behind the video.

South Sudan | Clashes Flare In Southwest Of Country's Capital


Fighting flared late on Saturday in south-west of the capital of South Sudan between forces loyal to the President and those backing the opposition.

This is coming after clashes last month raised fears of a slide back into civil war.

Steven Lodu Onseimo, the Information Minister for Yei region where Saturday’s clashes took place, told Reuters that two civilians and a soldier were killed, but said the area was calm on Sunday.

Witnesses had reported heavy gunfire around Yei, which lies on a road linking the capital Juba with neighboring Uganda. The government and opposition each blamed the other side.

Nigeria Army Declares 3 Persons Wanted Over Links With Boko Haram Video


The Nigerian Army has declared three persons wanted in connection with the latest video of the abducted Chibok girls released by Boko Haram on Sunday.

Spokesman for the Army, Colonel Sani Usman, said that the suspects, Ahmed Salkida, (Ambassador) Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil had information on the conditions and the exact location of these girls.

They were abducted on April 14, 2014 from their school’s dormitory in Chibok, while they were preparing for their Secondary School Certificate examinations.

The Ebonyi Police Command has confirmed the discovery of man and his wife’s corpses inside a farm at Mgbalaeze–Isu, in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

Chijioke Ani, 36 was found hanging in the farm and his wife battered, in a manner locals suspected to be murder.

Imam and his assistant shot dead in New York City (PHOTOS)


An imam and his assistant were fatally shot in broad daylight attack as they left afternoon prayers yesterday in New York City

Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddin, 64, were shot in the head by a man who approached them from behind in Queens shortly before 2pm on Saturday, August 13, police said.

Akonjee, a father-of-seven, and Uddin were both pronounced dead later on. The imam had moved to New York from Bangladesh two years ago and was close friends with Mr Uddin. Police said there was nothing at this stage to indicate that the men were shot because they were Muslim.

Howard Gayle, the first black footballer to play for Liverpool has turned down an MBE nomination. The 58-year-old Toxteth-born footballer said it would be "a betrayal" to Africans who suffered at the hands of the British Empire.
