Court Upheld Governor Bello’s Election


The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday dismissed the suit filed by Mr. James Faleke challenging the election that brought Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi State into power, thereby upholding the election.

A five-member panel led by Justice Jumai Hannatu Sankey held that Faleke’s case was not substantial enough to disqualify the governor.

Molly revealed that she clashed with Millicent after she lured one of her paying clients when she had indicated to her that he was her client.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Thursday declared that Agriculture has the key to salvaging Nigeria from its current economic hardship.

Nigerian Medical Students arrested for stealing in the Carribeans, decries lack of funds


Some Nigerian medical students studying in St Vincent and Grenadines in the Caribbean have reportedly been arrested for theft.

The students were awarded scholarships in 2013 under the Rivers State Scholarship schemes.

Two of the sixteen students were nabbed after they were caught stealing, Vanguard gathered.

The students, who reportedly said they resorted to stealing due to lack of funds, complained that the government abandoned them to their own fate for close to 2 years, alleging that they (government) refused to pay their tuition and starving them of their monthly upkeep allowances.

Spain’s AS reports that Ronaldo’s Real Madrid contract will officially be renewed this month, once player and club representatives have met in person.

Former leader of Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau has resurfaced after a year in hiding. He has also reacted to the news of a new leader being chosen to lead Boko Haram by ISIS.

Yesterday the news broke that ISIS had installed Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new leader of Boko Haram in West Africa.

Shekau who has not been seen or heard from since August last year released a message on his feelings on the matter. It is clear from his tone that he feels betrayed and there seems to be a disconnect in the ideologies of ISIS and Shekau.

The Arabic-language newspaper al-Nabaa on Wednesday identified Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new 'Wali,' a title previously used to describe long-time leader Abubakar Shekau. The report does not say what Shekau's current status is. He was in charge since 2009.

AAUA Strike: Governor Mimiko's meeting with ASUU Ends in Deadlock


An emergency meeting summoned by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State with members of the Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko to address the issue of unpaid salaries of lecturers has ended in a deadlock.

Our correspondent was told that the  meeting held on Tuesday at the Alagbaka office of the Governor had in attendance the embattled Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun.

The lectures are demanding for the full payment of their entitlement and have vowed not to resume for teaching activities on the campus if their salaries are not paid.

Roma makes Mohamed Salah move permanent


Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah has completed a permanent move to Serie A side Roma.

Having joined the Stamford Bridge outfit from Basel in 2014, Salah spent time on loan at Fiorentina before joining Roma on a season-long loan last year, scoring 14 goals in 34 appearances.

Manchester City Sign Jesus


Manchester City have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras.

The Premier League side had been chasing the 19-year-old for some time, though Barcelona were also interested in signing him.


Jesus has signed a contract which will last until 2021, but he will remain with Palmeiras until the end of this year, teaming up with Pep Guardiola's charges in January 2017.

Turkish FA fires 94 referees, other officials


Turkey’s football authorities have fired 94 officials including referees in the wake of the July 15 coup that tried to unseat President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the football federation said on Tuesday.
“Our federation deemed it necessary to dismiss 94 people, including regional and nationally-ranked referees and assistant referees, regional refereeing committee members and national and regional observers,” the Turkish Football Federation said in a statement.
