Interpol nabs Nigerian behind $60m online fraud network in Port Harcourt


A  Nigerian behind an online fraud network which engineered scams worth more than $60 million (54 million euros) has been arrested in southern oil city of Port Harcourt, Interpol said on Monday.
“The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as ‘Mike’, is believed to be behind scams totalling more than $60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide,” the international police organisation said in a statement.

Nigeria Olympic team head coach Samson Siasia has appointed Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi as captain of the team going into the men’s football tournament of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Making the announcement on Saturday while meeting with players and other officials, Siasia said the choice of Mikel was automatic as he is the captain of the Super Eagles and also the captain of Team Nigeria to the Games.

Why bank manager took his life – FCMB releases Statement


First City Monument Bank Plc says its official, Olisa Nwakoby, who committed suicide on Friday in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Lekki, Lagos State, had personal challenges and became frustrated.

The bank, however, noted that neither the management nor colleagues of the deceased were aware of the challenges, adding that it was working with Nwakoby’s family and the police to unravel the nature of the challenges.

Forty-four-year-old Nwakoby, said to be the manager of the bank’s branch in Lekki, shot himself in the head over a bad debt estimated at N350m on Friday.

D'banj reportedly leaves GLO for MTN


According to reports Nigerian pop star D'banj has left the Mike Adenuga led telco GLO and has signed for rival telco MTN.

THE NET claims that the self-acclaimed Entertainer parted ways with GLO a few weeks ago and signed the dotted line with MTN making him a brand ambassador for the company. "The deal happened a few weeks ago and Dbanj is very happy about it"

The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), has stated that ex-Niger Delta militants will start receiving their stipends on Monday while appealing to the ex-militants in the region to shelve the plan to declare the Niger Delta Republic.

South Africa | Two Nigerians Killed In Fresh Attacks


Barely three days after Ikejiaku Chinedu, a 35-year-old Nigerian businessman, was beaten to death in South Africa, two other Nigerians have been killed in the country.

The fresh cases of death bring to 17, the total number of Nigerians killed in 2016 alone.

Militants blow up Agip Pipeline in Delta State


Niger Militants on Sunday blew up a crude pipeline operated by Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell in Delta State.

The incident occurred at about 1:00 am near Odimodi community in Delta State, a local source confirmed.

The pipeline had been previously targeted by militants.

Militants Call off Plans to Declare Niger Delta Republic as Goodluck Jonathan Intervenes


The Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA) has heeded please by the Federal Government and suspended today’s proposed declaration of Niger Delta republic. However, the group vowed that they  “will not stop until the Nigerian government is ready to sit on a roundtable to dialogue and to restructure Nigeria.”

The group further issued a warning to the Federal Government against having any discussion with the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) describing MEND as “greedy fellows” who are only after “stipends.”

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi has congratulated the Federal Government on the recent commissioning of the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.

The FRSC boss, who stated that the new development, would reduce road mishaps along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway drastically, added that the cost of obtaining driving license remained N6, 350 for three years and N10, 350 for five years.

He made this disclosure in Lagos at the weekend during the annual training workshop organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA).

Dino Melaye drags Manitoba to EFCC over N13.8bn fraud


Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory and Founder of Anti-Corruption Network, ACN, Senator Dino Melaye, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe Manitoba Hydro International Nigeria Limited for alleged abuse of Public Procurement Act and diversion of funds amounting to N13.8 billion.

In his petition already submitted to the Director of Public Affairs of the Agency, Osita Nwaja, Melaye said the company was awarded a management contract to oversee the Transmission Company of Nigeria‎ assets and liabilities after the privatisation and unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria to Generating Companies and Distribution Companies by the Bureau of Public Enterprises in March 2012 for a term of three years.

Suspected Cultists kill four in Ikorodu rampage


Suspected cult members of a six-man gang, over the weekend, shot dead four persons at 24 Road, in the Igbogbo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the suspected cultists arrived the community around 8pm on two motorcycles.

Rasheed Yusuf, aka Low Banger, a 63-year-old native doctor, who was walking along the road, was the first target.

The attackers according to reports also shot at Rasheed’s wife, Falilat, and a two-year-old girl, Kehinde, both died on the spot.

'Have a nice afterlife' - 14-year-old girl says after slitting her brother's girlfriend's throat


A 14-year-old teenager, Kali Jade Bookey from New Richmond, Wisconsin, was charged as an adult by police on 28 July with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and if convicted, she could be jailed for up to 40 years.

According to police documents, Bookey attacked her brother's girlfriend, in the girl's bedroom, by first trying to suffocate her. She is then alleged to have smashed two bowls on the victim's head, and finally cut her throat with a shard from one of the bowls.

After she slit her brother's girlfriend's throat, Bookey called the St Croix County Sheriff's Department on 27 July, claiming that two men in a green pickup truck attempted to kidnap her while she was out for a bike ride.

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Russian intelligence services hacked into Democratic National Committee computers and she accused Republican contender Donald Trump of showing support for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We know that Russian intelligence services hacked into the DNC and we know that they arranged for a lot of those emails to be released and we know that Donald Trump has shown a very troubling willingness to back up Putin, to support Putin,” Clinton said in an interview with “Fox News Sunday.”

Ijaw indigenes fleeing after ROPC issued an ultimatum to vacate the land


Due to the alleged ultimatum issued by the Reformed Odua Peoples Congress, ROPC to Ijaw indigenes who live in Lagos and Ogun states to leave these states, a lot of Ijaws have started relocating to the South South for fear of being attacked. The ultimatum was allegedly given to the Ijaws due to attacks by unknown gunmen in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

The price of tomato has crashed from N25,000 to N800 a basket. Few months ago, the price of the essential commodity skyrocketed following the spread of tuta absoluta also known as ‘tomato ebola’ in most of the states that plant and harvest Tomatoes in large quantities. As of this morning, a basket of Tomato in Kaduna sold for as low as N800.

Nigeria makes progress in securing China's funding of projects

Budget and National Planning Minister, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, at the weekend, in Beijing, made a strong case why the Chinese government should assist Nigeria financially in funding critical major infrastructure projects in the country. Senator Udoma who was in China for the Coordinator’s meeting on the implementation of the follow-up actions of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) also used the opportunity to discuss issues of vital economic interest with that country’s Vice Minister for Commerce, Mr. Qian Keming; and officials of China EXIM bank, where he stressed the mutually beneficial relationship the two countries will eventually enjoy if Nigeria’s economy is assisted to grow rapidly.

Troops recover stash of arms and ammunition in Gamboru (PHOTOS)


Troops conducted raids at Gamboru town, Borno state early this morning following a tip off. The troops recovered 3 AK-56 rifles and 2 AK-L rifles with registration numbers; AK-L-AGB 1172, AK-L PU2879, AK-56-2556688, AK-56-22622832 and AK-56-22622315, respectively. They also recovered 235 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and 7 AK-56 rifle magazines.
