Actor Jide Kosoko Finally Speaks on His Regrets After Wife’s Death


Veteran Nollywood Actor, Jide Kosoko who recently lost his third wife, Henrietta Kosoko to the cold hands of death has opened up on his take on polygamy in retrospect adding that he regrets the choices he made with respect to it.

In a recent interview with NigerianTribune, the actor said his case should be a warning to all the young men out in the world. Read excerpts from the interview below:

Femi Fani-Kayode warns Buhari over decision to use Force on Niger Delta militants


Femi Fani-Kayode, the former aviation minister and one of the chieftains of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has raised alarm that Nigeria will disintegrate if President Muhammadu Buhari directs military to tackle the Niger Delta militancy. 

PDP politician revealed this through his official Facebook account reacting to the report on the CNN that “the Nigerian government is preparing troops for a crackdown in the Niger Delta if peace talks fail.”

Breaking | 16 confirm dead as Hot Air Balloon Catches Fire


Police confirmed that 16 people died on Saturday in the crash of a hot-air balloon, which eyewitnesses said struck power transmission lines and burst into flames before plunging into a pasture in Texas.

According to reports from Reuters, the Federal Aviation Administration said the crash, one of the deadliest balloon accidents on record, occurred near Lockhart, about 30 miles (50 km) south of Austin and that at least 16 people were on board the craft.

The FAA did not comment on fatalities, but Caldwell County Sheriff Daniel Law said there did not appear to be any survivors and that his office was working to determine the identities of those aboard.

Boko Haram can’t distract us - UNICEF resumes aid in Borno


UNICEF says it will not allow the attack on its convoy divert it from reaching the over two million people in need of aid in the north-east.

On Thursday, a humanitarian escort duty and Nigerian soldiers were ambushed and attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state.

The convoy, which was en route Maiduguri from Bama, included staff from UNICEF, UNFPA, and IOM.

Describing the attack as “heartless”, Jean Gough, UNICEF representative in Nigeria, said the task at hand is important.

Two workers of the Nasarawa State Civil Service were feared dead while five others sustained various degrees of injury when an officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command shot at protesting workers during a visit by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress to the state.

The National President of NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, stated this while briefing journalists at the police clinic on Friday in Lafia, the state capital, where four workers who were shot at were receiving treatment.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is waiting for more information from the World Anti Doping Agency and the  International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the status of the Nigerian 4x400m relay quartet, which stands disqualified following the alleged dope offence of an athlete in the team.

President approves Board of Trustees for Ogoniland cleanup


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a 13-member Governing Council and 10-member Board of Trustees for the cleanup of Ogoniland in Rivers.

The Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, announced this in a statement by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Bukar Hassan, in Abuja on Saturday.

Sheriff says Nigeria still has fine judges after favourable court judgement


Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the ruling that nullified the forthcoming convention of the party is proof that the country still has fine judges.

Okon Abang, a judge of a federal high court in Abuja, had declared the caretaker committee of the PDP as illegal, voiding the convention scheduled for August 17 in Port Harcourt.

Commending the ruling, Sheriff said the order was a demonstration of the existence of some fine judges in Nigeria.

MEND and FG reach agreement to end Niger-Delta crisis


The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and the Federal Government currently engaged in a dialogue through the oil companies and security agencies have reached far-reaching compromises, including the release of former militant leader, Henry Okah, in prison in South Africa and Charles Okah, incarcerated in Nigeria. 

They also agreed that ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo , alias Tompolo, would not be harassed by government if he makes himself available as a delegate on MEND Aaron Team 2, while the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, would be released on condition that he renounces the agitation for “Biafra Republic.”
