Zika Virus | England Warns Pregnant Women to Delay Travel to Florida


Public health officials in England are advising pregnant women to delay nonessential travel to Florida after the first known local transmission of the Zika virus was discovered in the U.S.

In its updated travel advice, Public Health England increased the risk designation for Florida from low to medium.

Renowned Medical Doctor, Abdulkareem Abdulrahman declared missing in Kwara


The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Kwara Chapter, has declared one of its members, Dr Abdulkareem Abdulrahman, missing.

Dr Victor Iroha, the Secretary of NMA in the state, announced this in a statement given to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Saturday.

Iroha said Abdulraheem, a medical officer with Hospital Management Bureau, was posted to General Hospital in Omu- Aran.

The leader of Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, July 29th, declared 'The Kuje Prison 2016 Championship Competition' opened at the prisons in FCT where he has been remanded since last year.

While declaring the competition open, Nnamdi Kanu reportedly said that his main purpose for sponsoring the competition this year was for inmates to have freedom and relate with one another, adding that the competition is to foster peace and co-existence among the inmates and the prison officers.

Dogara Bribed Appropriation Committee Members with $20,000 Each - Abdulmumin Jibrin


Former chairman Appropriation Committee of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin has made more shocking revelation as he continues to speak on the padded budget. 

Jibrin has released a statement allegeding that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara bribed Appropriation Committee members with $20,000.

Secondary School Student Allegedly Invents Phone That Make Calls Free of Charge


A Grade 12 learner in Namibia has invented a phone that doesn't need airtime to make calls. The schoolboy in the country’s Ohagwena Region came up with a sim-less mobile phone that does not require airtime to make calls to solve the country's problem.

The boy identified as Simon Petrus, a pupil at Abraham Iyambo Senior Secondary School created the phone using spares from a phone and television set, New Era reports.

The phone is complete with a light bulb, fan and charger socket, the handset functions off power supplied through a radiator and is able to make calls to anywhere through the use of radio frequencies.

Emeka Ike, others blast clerics who condemned Kano film village project


President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Emeka Ike, has reacted to the N3.7bn film village project in Kano State that was cancelled by the Federal Government.

Ike said it was unfortunate that such a laudable project had to be stopped because clerics in the state kicked against it, adding that those who called for the cancellation of the project are ignorant.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the controversial actor said, “I think it is ignorance on the part of anybody who kicks against the establishment of a film village in the North. These people forget that if the film village is established in Kano, it could help propagate Islam. Through movie making, drama, musicals, they could actually preach to the world the doctrine of Islam.

OPC won’t strike unless it gets approval – Gani Adams on Militant Attacks


The leader of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, has said his organisation would not strike back at the militants terrorising Lagos and its environs until it gets the needed approval from the state government.

Dangote Sugar Refinery announces N11bn profit before tax


Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) has announced a profit before tax (PBT) of N11.1 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2016.

This is contained in a statement issued by the company on Friday in Lagos.

The statement showed that the PBT increased by 13.3 per cent compared with N9.8 billion posted in the preceding period of 2015.

Chibuike Miracle Oramalu, a 7-year-old boy, has been made to appear before a magistrate court in Enugu. The boy has been dragged to court by the police in Enugu for alleged murder.

According to The Punch, Chibuike, a primary two pupil in a nursery and primary school, had on May 29, accidentally fired a gun, which killed 12-year-old Oluebube Boniface.
