Yakubu Dogara wants to sue Jibrin over budget padding, issues 7 days ultimatum


Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the federal house of representatives, has issued a seven-day ultimatum within which Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman of the appropriation committee, must apologise and retract all his allegations against him or face legal action.

In a statement on Wednesday, Turaki Hassan, spokesman to Dogara, said the demand for retraction of allegations and apology was contained in a letter addressed to Jibrin by Joash Ojo Amupitan, counsel to the speaker.

Mikel Obi expresses joy after being Name as Captain of #TeamNigeria to Olympics


Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has confessed that he is overwhelmed to appointed as captain of Team Nigeria to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

On Tuesday, Mikel was appointed captain of Team Nigeria and will be assisted by Olympic veteran and Nigeria women table tennis star Funke Oshinaike.

Alexandre Pato complete move to Villarreal on a four-year deal


Alexandre Pato has agreed a four-year deal with Villarreal, joining the Spanish side from Corinthians for an undisclosed fee.

Pato returned to Corinthians in July following an unsuccessful loan spell at Chelsea which saw him make just two Premier League appearances for the Blues having joined them in January.

The 26-year-old striker's contract with the Brazilian club was due to expire at the end of 2016, but he will now represent Villarreal until 2020.

The Lagos State Executives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday declared its support for the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, to be the National Chairman.

Beyonce’s critically-praised visual album “Lemonade”, has earned the R&B singer a career-best 11 nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards.

The list included multiple nods for Adele and rapper Kanye West, but nothing for Taylor Swift.
Adele’s YouTube-shattering video for her 2015 comeback single “Hello” notched seven nominations, while the sultry British singer earned an eighth mention for “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”.

Nigerian businessman murdered in South Africa


The Nigeria Union in South Africa on Wednesday confirmed the killing of a Nigerian businessman in Limpopo Province of South Africa on Tuesday.

Collins Mgbo, Secretary of the Union’s chapter in Limpopo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Polokwane, Limpopo Province, that Ikejiaku Chinedu, 35, was killed by guards of a private security firm at about 8.00p.m.

He said that the deceased was an indigene of Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo and married with three children.

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three people, including 18-year-old girl, identified as Ezinne for allegedly selling her 16-month-old child at the sum of N300,000.

Community leaders suspended for diverting IDPs food in Yobe


Two Village Heads and one Sarkin Fulani have been suspended by the Emirate council in Yobe state over the diversion of food meant for Internally displaced people in Buni-Yadi in the state. Their suspension letter was sent to them on July 22nd after the emirate council had done their investigation and found them guilty.

According to the Nation, the two suspended village heads are Lawan Alhaji Hassan of Hausari village and Lawan Ngawari of Ngomari village. Also suspended is the Sarkin Fulani of Gujba Alhaji Haro. The Emirate accused the village heads of nonchalant attitude, indiscipline and breach of trust in the handling of food materials meant for the IDPs in Buni Yadi. 

The letter reads in part:

Tokyo knife attacker says he wants all disabled people to 'disappear'


26-year-old Japanese man who murdered 19 people at a centre for the mentally disabled grinned at news cameras on Wednesday before being questioned.

Police searched the home of Satoshi Uematsu, , who reportedly said he wanted all disabled people to "disappear", after the knife rampage that left his victims in pools of blood, including some who were stabbed in the neck.

With a blue jacket draped over his head, Satoshi Uematsu was escorted out of a police station into a waiting van before a crowd of flashing cameras. Inside the vehicle with the jacket removed, he smiled broadly in footage broadcast on morning news shows.

Former Head of States, Abdulsalami urges support for Buhari’s anti-corruption war

Avengers says FG delayed dialogue, a ploy to acquire drones


The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) last night accused the federal government of bidding for time with its supposed dialogue with militants to acquire drones to fight its operatives attacking oil facilities in the Niger Delta region.

School teacher blames school for her sexual exploit on teen student


A female teacher, Mary Beth Haglin, accused of sleeping with a pupil has blamed her former school's administrators for her alleged relationship, claiming the school administrators "turned a blind eye."

Mary Beth, a substitute teacher claimed authorities "allowed this to happen" after she was arrested for her relationship with a 17-year-old male student at Washington High in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Al Shabaab jihadist group confirmed that one of the bombers in the twin explosions yesterday, July 26, near the airport in Mogadishu, was 57-year-old former Somali MP, Salah Badbado. 

Babado was member of the Somali Federal Parliament in the transitional government from 2000 to 2004. He was representing his constituency in Sana region before defecting to the Islamist group in 2010
