NANS says they will take President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade to Campuses


Members of National Association of Nigerian Students have declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign.

The association made the its position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its acting President/National Convention Chairman, Mr Prince Miaphen.

It said that the students were in support of the move to recover all funds stolen by corrupt former public officials and civil servants, noting that corruption had for long remained the bane of Nigeria’s development.

Gonzalo Higuain move to Juventus for €90m


Juventus has completed the signing of Argentine superstar, Gonzalo Higuain.

He was the Serie A’s leading scorer with a mind-boggling 36 goals in 35 games. The fee is reported to be around €90m.

Juventus will pay in two instalments and have already made a payment of €45m with the rest to come later.

UBA responds to Allegations of Sponsoring Turkey Coup


The United Bank for Africa (UBA) have come out to respond to allegations that it helped fund the failed coup plot in Turkey.

Reports emanating from Turkey had claimed that UBA’s Lagos branch had been used to funnel money to members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

Mikel Obi to Captain #TeamNigeria at Rio Olympics


Chelsea FC midfielder and Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has been named Captain of Team Nigeria to the 2016 Olympic Games at Rio in Brazil, which begins on Aug. 5.

A statement on Tuesday by Nneka Ikem-Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media to Youths and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, also named Funke Oshonaike as the Assistant Team Captain.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mikel is one of the three over-aged players invited to the national under-23 football team for the Games.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Elias Nwalem Mbam, an engineer as chairman for the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The President also approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs) Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

Abuja-Kaduna Railway Commissioning | PDP congratulates Buhari, GEJ, Okonjo-Iweala


The opposition party took to their twitter handle to congratulate Pres. Buhari on the commissioning of the Abuja-Kaduna railway today July 26th. The party also extended congratulations to former President Goodluck Jonathan for the conceptualization of the project. They also commended former Finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the "work put into the structure & funding of the project".

21 years old Teacher arrested for allegedly having oral sex with his 14 years old Student


The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 21-year-old teacher, Matthew Sodake, at an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having oral sex with a 14-year old student.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing alleged charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 12 at about 8.00 p.m. at Ambassador Star Comprehensive Secondary School, Answer, Ota in Ogun.

An ambassadorial nominee, Alhaji Ibrahim Bida, from Niger state currently serving in Turkey, shockingly failed to recite the Nigeria National anthem when asked to do so by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Ibrahim, who is among the 47 ambassadorial nominees currently being screened, began stammering having introduced himself successfully and on getting to singing the pledge, it became difficult for him as he began to mix up the wordings.

Federal Govt to reopen corruption cases against Ibori, 30 other former Governors


The Federal government is set to reopen the corruption cases against former Delta state governor, James Ibori and 30 other former governors. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, last week sent a letter to the ICPC, instructing the commission to forward the case files of all former governors that are standing trial for corruption.

Cops arrest Fan for 'slapping' Justin Timberlake at a Golf tournament


A golf spectator got arrested by cops for slapping Justin Timberlake on his neck over the weekend. The Hollywood actor/singer was at the American Century Celebrity Pro-Am in Lake Tahoe and in a video shared by TMZ, the man's hand is seen smacking Justin on the neck as he's walking through the crowd. Turning around in surprise, Justin yelled, "Why would you do that?" but later walked off.

Two armed men attack church in France, kills Priest


A priest was found dead with his throat slit after two men armed with knives took hostages at a church in Rouen, France this morning July 26th. The men had arrived the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray and held the priest, two nuns and other church members hostage during their early morning mass. The police arrived the scene and shot dead the two armed men. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The French police is investigating the incident as it unfolds.

The face of the perpetrator of the attacks has been revealed. 26-year-old Satoshi Uematsu turned himself in following the stabbing spree, confessing to the police that he wanted to "get rid of the disabled from this world". 

According to Japanese media reports, He sent bizarre texts around the time he committed the sickening crime. He was also reportedly seen handing out fliers near the facility that said: "It is wasteful to have the disabled continue living" earlier this year.

Koffi Olomide arrested at his home for kicking his dancer in Kenya (PHOTOS)


Koffi Olomide has arrested this morning at his home in Kinshasha, DRC, following a court order. The singer was deported by the Kenyan government last week after a video emerged showing him kicking one of his female dancers at Nairobi Airport.

Footage of the incident caused a social media outcry with thousands taking to Facebook and Twitter to demand that he be thrown out of the country.

The mother-in-law of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, has reportedly been kidnapped in Brazil by criminals demanding 120 million reais (£27.8 million) in ransom.

Aparecida Schunck, the mother of Ecclestone's wife, Fabiana Flosi, was captured in Sao Paulo on Friday night, according to Brazilian newsmagazine, Veja.

FIFA President says African teams slot to increase from 5 to 7 at the World Cup


Africa will get an additional two World Cup finals places should the tournament be expanded to 40 teams from 2026, says Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Infantino proposed the expansion from 32 teams before he was elected by world football’s governing body in February.

Africa is currently allocated five places at World Cups.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday inaugurated the Abuja-Kaduna commercial rail operation.

The inauguration had several senior government officials in attendance such as the president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi amongst others.

The commissioning of the project had been postponed on different occasions, but today’s event has opened it up for full commercial operations of the rail project.

Ministry of Sports to send Rio tickets to foreign-based athletes


The Ministry of Youths and Sports on Monday in Abuja confirmed that it would send flight tickets to Rio Olympics bound foreign-based athletes this week.

Delta militants have again invaded Igando area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, with people feared killed.

There was pandemonium in the area as at this morning as the militants broke into people’s houses to wreck havoc.

Nigerian Army Rescues Emir’s Wife, Daughter From Boko Haram's Enclave


The Nigerian Army on Monday rescued the wife and daughter of Shehu of Bama from the Boko Haram enclave in Borno.

The Emir’s wife and two of her children were abducted by Boko Haram fighters two years ago.

While the queen and her daughter have regained their freedom, the second child, the son was killed by the insurgents few months after the abduction.

PDP will Retrun to Power In 2019 - Raymond Dokpesi


Aspirant for the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Raymond Dokpesi, on Monday, said that with him at the party’s helm of affairs, the PDP will “take over in 2019.″

This came as the convention to elect a new PDP chairman holds on August 17 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. The PDP has zoned the position to the Southern part of the country. Addressing party members and delegates in Asaba, the Delta state capital, Dokpesi, however, traced the PDP’s fall in the 2015 General Elections to its deviation from the visions of its founding fathers, saying the easiest way for the party to worm its way back into the hearts of citizens is for members to return to those ideals. He asked members of the party to embrace the visions of the founding fathers of the party.

Lagos State Givt evacuates 413 beggars, deports 31 others to Niger


The Lagos State Government has evacuated 413 beggars from the streets of Lagos and deported 31 others to Niger Republic for constituting nuisance in the state.

A report from the Ministry of Youth and Social Development obtained by PM News revealed that 413 beggars and lunatics were evacuated from Lagos streets by government officials between March and June 2016.

Double bomb attack kills 13 near Mogadishu Airport


Explosions rocked a peacekeeping base and the airport in Somalia’s capital, police and local residents said Tuesday.

At least 13 people were killed in the twin bombings near UN and African Union buildings adjoining Mogadishu’s airport, police said, in what the jihadist Shabaab group claimed as a suicide attack.

The Al-Qaeda aligned Shabaab group is blamed for a string of bloody assaults in Somalia and neighbouring Kenya and is fighting to overthrow Mogadishu’s internationally-backed government.

Court throw two men to jail for receiving stolen goods


A Jos Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced two men, Azi Itsegok, and Atsen John, to 12 months in prison each for stealing four aluminium windows and a dane gun.

Itsegok, 20, and John 21, both of Lamingo, Jos East, were charged with criminal trespass, housebreaking, theft and receiving stolen property.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Mafuyai, handed down the sentence after the convicts pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
