According to a statement released by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Independent People of Biafra IPOB, Emma Powerful, Kanu said this while speaking to some of his members who recently paid him a visit at Kuje prisons.

Koffi Olomide arrested at his home for kicking his dancer in Kenya (PHOTOS)


Koffi Olomide has arrested this morning at his home in Kinshasha, DRC, following a court order. The singer was deported by the Kenyan government last week after a video emerged showing him kicking one of his female dancers at Nairobi Airport.

Footage of the incident caused a social media outcry with thousands taking to Facebook and Twitter to demand that he be thrown out of the country.

Kidnappers demand £28m for the release of Billionaire & Formula One Chief, Bernie's Mother-in-law


The mother-in-law of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, has reportedly been kidnapped in Brazil by criminals demanding 120 million reais (£27.8 million) in ransom.

Aparecida Schunck, the mother of Ecclestone's wife, Fabiana Flosi, was captured in Sao Paulo on Friday night, according to Brazilian newsmagazine, Veja.

FIFA President says African teams slot to increase from 5 to 7 at the World Cup


Africa will get an additional two World Cup finals places should the tournament be expanded to 40 teams from 2026, says Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Infantino proposed the expansion from 32 teams before he was elected by world football’s governing body in February.

Africa is currently allocated five places at World Cups.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday inaugurated the Abuja-Kaduna commercial rail operation.

The inauguration had several senior government officials in attendance such as the president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi amongst others.

The commissioning of the project had been postponed on different occasions, but today’s event has opened it up for full commercial operations of the rail project.

Ministry of Sports to send Rio tickets to foreign-based athletes


The Ministry of Youths and Sports on Monday in Abuja confirmed that it would send flight tickets to Rio Olympics bound foreign-based athletes this week.

This was announced via a statement by Nneka Ikem-Anibeze, the Special Assistant (Media) to Youth and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung.

It quoted Dalung as saying this during a meeting on Monday in Abuja with the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Solomon Ogba.

Lagos State | Commotion as militants invade Igando


Delta militants have again invaded Igando area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, with people feared killed.

There was pandemonium in the area as at this morning as the militants broke into people’s houses to wreck havoc.

The affected community is Ewedogbo area of Igando, along LASU road. The streets are empty as the militants have taken over everywhere.

Nigerian Army Rescues Emir’s Wife, Daughter From Boko Haram's Enclave


The Nigerian Army on Monday rescued the wife and daughter of Shehu of Bama from the Boko Haram enclave in Borno.

The Emir’s wife and two of her children were abducted by Boko Haram fighters two years ago.

While the queen and her daughter have regained their freedom, the second child, the son was killed by the insurgents few months after the abduction.

PDP will Retrun to Power In 2019 - Raymond Dokpesi


Aspirant for the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Raymond Dokpesi, on Monday, said that with him at the party’s helm of affairs, the PDP will “take over in 2019.″

This came as the convention to elect a new PDP chairman holds on August 17 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. The PDP has zoned the position to the Southern part of the country. Addressing party members and delegates in Asaba, the Delta state capital, Dokpesi, however, traced the PDP’s fall in the 2015 General Elections to its deviation from the visions of its founding fathers, saying the easiest way for the party to worm its way back into the hearts of citizens is for members to return to those ideals. He asked members of the party to embrace the visions of the founding fathers of the party.

Lagos State Givt evacuates 413 beggars, deports 31 others to Niger


The Lagos State Government has evacuated 413 beggars from the streets of Lagos and deported 31 others to Niger Republic for constituting nuisance in the state.

A report from the Ministry of Youth and Social Development obtained by PM News revealed that 413 beggars and lunatics were evacuated from Lagos streets by government officials between March and June 2016.

Double bomb attack kills 13 near Mogadishu Airport


Explosions rocked a peacekeeping base and the airport in Somalia’s capital, police and local residents said Tuesday.

At least 13 people were killed in the twin bombings near UN and African Union buildings adjoining Mogadishu’s airport, police said, in what the jihadist Shabaab group claimed as a suicide attack.

The Al-Qaeda aligned Shabaab group is blamed for a string of bloody assaults in Somalia and neighbouring Kenya and is fighting to overthrow Mogadishu’s internationally-backed government.

Court throw two men to jail for receiving stolen goods


A Jos Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced two men, Azi Itsegok, and Atsen John, to 12 months in prison each for stealing four aluminium windows and a dane gun.

Itsegok, 20, and John 21, both of Lamingo, Jos East, were charged with criminal trespass, housebreaking, theft and receiving stolen property.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Mafuyai, handed down the sentence after the convicts pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

German Court sentenced a Paedophile to life imprisonment


A German Court on Tuesday handed a life sentence to a 33-year-old security guard who admitted to abducting, sexually abusing and murdering two boys, one of them a 4-year-old Bosnian refugee.

The court in Potsdam (Germany) handed Silvio S, whose full name was withheld due to privacy laws, that was the maximum sentence for his crimes, which shocked the country last year and drew attention to the chaotic conditions at the refugee registration centre in Berlin from where the boy was abducted.

The prosecutor said that S was arrested in October after police found the body of 4-year-old Mohamed in the man’s car.

Obasanjo to Buhari | Beware of Corrupt Lawmakers


Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday weighed in on the latest allegations of cor­ruption in the National Assem­bly, advising President Muham­madu Buhari to be very wary in his dealings with the federal law­makers.

Obasanjo, who spoke with journalists at the Aso Villa yes­terday after a meeting with President Buhari, reaffirmed his earlier position that there were many corrupt politicians in the National Assembly, as shown by the incidence of budget pad­ding.
“The President should be very vigilant. Whatever he should not pass, he should not pass,” Obasanjo stressed.

Football Made in Anambra | FIFA Partners with NFF to Actualize Ifeanyi Ubah’s Iniative


FIFA yesterday declared its readiness to partner with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to actualize the ‘Football Made in Anambra’ project, initiated by the Anambra State Football Association.

President of the world football governing body, Gianni Infantino, who hailed the project as a major developmental project in Nigerian football assured that FIFA will key into it through the NFF.

It would be recalled that the Anambra State FA recently launched the 50,000 football for 50,000 homes project, which it aimed at raising footballers from every family in the state

Gov ‎Fayose says state got N2.5bn not N9bn as claim by APC


Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the state government got a net allocation of N2.5 billion from the Federation Account for the month of July, contrary to insinuations by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) that it got over N9 billion. He made this disclosure in Ado-Ekiti on Monday while speaking on state radio and television.

In a statement by his Chief ‎Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor challenged the APC and any other person or group having any contrary figures to make that public. Brandishing the allocation paper that came from Abuja, the governor said after the deduction of over N900 million to service the state's debts, what eventually came to the state was N2.51 billion. He added that the 16 local governments were given N2.01 billion. 

Abductors of RCCG Pastor demand N100m for his release


After abducting a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ikorodu on Sunday just before the start of service for the day, the abductors are allegedly asking for N100 million in ransom for the release of the cleric.

According to a relative of the pastor who spoke to Punch newspaper, the kidnappers have gotten in touch and requested the lump sum for his freedom.

Gov Okorocha says Ekweremandu’s seat threatened


Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, says “Ike Ekweremadu’s seat as Deputy Senate President, is now threatened, with the emergence of Benjamin Uwajumogu in the last senatorial re-run election in the state.”

An obviously joyous Okorocha, fired the salvo while speaking during a victory party for members of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state to celebrate the outcome of the Saturday re-run election for Okigwe senatorial seat and the two state constituencies of Oru-East and Oru-West.

Buhari needs time to develop Niger Delta - SGF, Babachir Lawal


Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal has appealed to the people of Niger Delta to give President Muhammadu Buhari time to develop the oil-rich region.

Ali Ndume | No impeachable offence against President Buhari


The Senate has assured that there is no impeachable offence against President Muhammadu Buhari and as such, there is no contemplation of impeachment by the chamber.

The Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, told newsmen in Abuja on Monday that the president had no impeachable offence hanging on his head.

According to him, the Senate alone cannot even impeach the president and has not contemplated the matter, adding that the rumoured report was coined by the media it originated from.

Bauchi | Seven Dead as Students’ Bus Collide With Two Vehicles


Seven persons have been sent to their early graves in a ghastly road transport accident along Bauchi to Darazo road, involving a bus conveying students of Federal Government Girls College, Bauchi, and two other vehicles, on Monday.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the scene of the accident, reported that 17 of students survived the accident.

Ekiti House of Assembly says No Ekiti lawmaker under investigation over certificates


The Ekiti State House of Assembly has described a report in the media that nine of its lawmakers are being investigated over certificate forgery as baseless, wicked and a continuation of relentless efforts of faceless enemies of the state to discredit the government.

The Assembly also noted that the rumour that the lawmakers were in hiding was a proof that “liars and enemies of progress are at work,” as “the House held its parliamentary meeting in the complex today (Monday) without any fear, let or hindrance.”

Nigerian Army says there are no more Boko Haram camps in North-East


The Nigerian Army said there were no longer Boko Haram camps in the North-Eastern part of the country.

Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman made the claim on Monday while addressing newsmen at the inauguration of Strategic Communication Course for senior officers at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, Bonny Camp, Lagos.

Usman assured Nigerians that the military was winning the war against terrorism, adding that there were no more terrorists clustered in a particular place in the area.

Breaking | At least 15 dead, many injured in knife attack outside Tokyo


A knife-wielding man killed at least 15 people and seriously wounded many others at a facility for the disabled in Japan early on Tuesday, Kyodo news agency reported, citing police. 

Police in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested a suspect, Kyodo reported.
