Chelsea bid £50m to lure Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge


Chelsea are ready to test Everton’s resolve by making a bid for Romelu Lukaku. The Stamford Bridge side have had two bids rejected for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and so will pick up their interest in Lukaku.

It is understood that Chelsea will lodge a bid of around £50m which will fall way short of Everton’s £65m valuation of the 23-year-old.

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte made Morata, who was at Juventus last season, his No1 target but after failing with reported bids of £50m and £62.7m, they have turned their attention to Lukaku.

19 Wounded as Boko Haram ambush Nigeria Troops, others Soldiers missing


Nineteen soldiers and three civilian JTF members “were wounded in action” in the wee hours of Friday, when Boko Haram insurgents ambushed Nigerian troops.

Sani Usman, acting director of army public relations, in a statement, said the troops were returning from a “clearance patrol at Guro Gongon village and environs” when the ambush ensued.

According to the army spokesperson, the soldiers had “destroyed the terrorists’ makeshift camps and recovered quite a number of weapons, equipment and foodstuff” before they fell into the insurgents’ ambush.

Hilda Dokubo is one Nigerian actress who has been missing in the movie scene for a while now, however, she seems to be back for real.

In a recent interview with City People, the actress revealed that she started her acting career at the age of seven.

Although there was a few break when she went into politics, the actress has been in Nollywood for more than 35 years.

Kano: Government approves N115m for upkeep of its students abroad


Kano state Executive Council has approved N115, 400, 477. 6 for payment of upkeep and other allowances, for three months, in respect of 459 students of the state, studying in six countries.

The students are on the state government scholarship, pursuing various postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in universities in China, India, Cyprus, Egypt, Uganda and Sudan.

The state Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the 52nd State weekly Executive Council meeting, held at the Aminu Kano Lodge, Abuja.

Akwa Ibom: Four Teenagers arrested Over Sale Of Human Skull (PHOTO)


The operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, of Akwa Ibom State Police Command, have arrested four suspected dealers of human parts on their way to sell a skull.

The suspects Emmanuel Edet Ikot, 17, from Edeabasi, Oron; Ubong Udong, 18; Bright Effiong Okon, 19 and Okon Ita, 20, from Orukim were nabbed at Mbo Local Government Area of the state when a vigilante caught them in possession of a human skull, thereby alerting the police.

Couple impersonating Tinubu to commit fraud arraign in Court


An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday remanded a couple in prison custody for allegedly impersonating former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu to commit fraud.

The couple, Abioye Junaid, 41, and Fausat Junaid, 39, are facing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud, stealing and impersonation.

The prosecutor, DSP Charles Odii, told the court that the couple and others still at large conspired and committed the ýalleged offences between October 2014 and December 2015, at their residence, No. 7 Ayeola St., Oke Balogun, Epe, Lagos.

Report Card: FRSC prosecutes 19,626 traffic offenders in 2015


The Federal Road Safety Corps said it prosecuted 19,626 suspected traffic offenders across the country in 2015, using 517 Mobile Courts.

The corps 2015 annual report, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, said out of the figure, 17,798 were convicted, while 1,828 were discharged.

The report said the suspected offenders were arraigned for 24,608 offences.

Former Super Eagle's Coach says foreign coach must adapt to Nigerians Lifestyle


Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, has said that any manager that is not ready to face the challenges that come in the course of managing the Nigerian team does not deserve the job.

Reacting to Paul Le Guen’s refusal to take the Super Eagles job because it compelled him to reside in Nigeria, Chukwu, who is a member of the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Technical Committee, expressed dismay over the attitude of the former Cameroun coach.

He said Le Geun has no right to give the NFF his own terms and conditions before accepting the job.

Enugu State: Policeman stoned to death for killing Okadaman


A Police corporal, Robert Ugwanyi, pictured, was last week stoned to death for killing a commercial motorcyclist identified as Festus Onah in Nsukka community in Enugu state.

Ugwuanyi and some of his colleagues had gone to Nsukka Local Government Council to compel some street traders to relocate to the newly completed Building Materials Market in the area when an argument ensued between the officers and the traders who refused relocation.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ag.IGP Ibrahim Idris, NPM, mni has directed the Deputy-Inspector-General of Police in charge operations, DIG Joshack Habilla to proceed to Plateau State with immediate effect to ensure the arrest of the killers of Chief Lazarus Agaie, the traditional ruler of Bokkos, who was murdered on his way from a farm alongside his wife, son and Police orderly.

According to a statement issued today by the spokesperson, Force Headquarters, DCP Don Awunah, the IGP said those behind the gruesome murder of the monarch will be fished out in record time for prosecution, saying, this is why the Deputy Inspector-General of Police is sent to Plateau State. He further said it was pathetic to see the life of any Nigerian, irrespective of his or her status snuffed out by any criminal gang in whatever name.

OPC warns Militants to desist from attacking South-West communities, issues 14-day ultimatum to them


Pan-Yoruba organisation Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has issued a warning to suspected Niger Delta militants attacking people in South-West communities. According to the OPC, either they allow peace to reign, or face the consequences of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth clash, considering they know where the properties of their leaders’ are situated and where their people reside in the entire South West.

Eric Avina pictured above is a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man whose responsibility it is to conduct "sexual cleansing" for underage and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi. 

Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing". 

Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrest 22 suspected kid robbers in Agege


The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command have arrested 22 teenagers for robbery, stealing and cultism.

The 22 teenagers, amongst whom are four female, were arrested for allegedly involved in separate incidences of robbery, stealing and cultism around Agege and its environs.

The two leaders of the first gang, which consist of eight members, Babatunde, 15 and Tayo, 15, were arrested on last Thursday, at about 11:30 p.m. in Mulero, Agege for assaulting and robbing one Aladegbo Abidemi with an axe, and snatching her Blackberry Z10.

Finance Minister reveals Nigeria is “technically in recession”


Nigeria is in technical recession, the finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, said Thursday. Appearing before the senate, Mrs. Adeosun made efforts to allay public fears about the implication of the country’s troubled economy, saying “things are tough”, but there should be no panic.

“Things are tough, but we are not ignorant,” Mrs. Adeosun. “I want to assure Nigerians the economy is in good hands and we are absolutely doing our best. We want to assure Nigeria we are on the right path, we are on the right track.”

A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a 30-year-old bricklayer Jeopardy John, to three months imprisonment for stealing two packets of Maggi cubes. John had pleaded guilty to a three-count of criminal trespass, housebreaking, and theft.
“I am sorry for the act I committed and I am pleading with the court not to send me to jail.
“It was hunger that made me steal. For some time now I don’t have a job, please sir forgive me, and I promise not to steal again,’’ the convict pleaded.

President Buhari reveals talks with Militants


President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration is talking to Niger Delta militants through oil companies and law enforcement agencies to find a lasting solution to insecurity in the region.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the president on Thursday.

House Of Representatives Member, Adewale Oluwatayo Dies In Abuja


A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Adewale Oluwatayo, has died in Abuja. He reportedly died on Wednesday, but information about the incident filtered into the National Assembly on Thursday.

The deceased, whose profile read that he was born in 1970, represented Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

He was the Chairman, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government between 2004 and 2007 before serving as a Special Adviser on Education  to Lagos State Government from 2009 to 2011.
