When it comes to romance, Nigerian men are known to be actively engaging. Apart from their culture of carrying the financial burden of relationship with women, they harness every opportunity to appeal to their lovers, be it on social-network sites, in their respective offices, religious organizations, gym centers, parks, clubs among others.

Despite the many romantic attributes that could be said of men in Nigeria, women still hold a contrary account about them. Predominant among the contrary views women hold against men here is that no matter how romantic they are, getting them to the altar for marriage could be very challenging.

EFCC to arrest senior advocates who help looters escape justice - Acting Chairman of EFCC


The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has vowed to go after senior lawyers who help looters escape justice.

Magu gave the hint on Tuesday at the opening of a one-day workshop organised by the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, in collaboration with the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, PACC, in Abuja.

According to the EFCC czar, there was a need for stakeholders to collaborate with the commission in a bid to stamp out corruption in the country.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared that the spirit of 140 defenceless Igbo people allegedly killed during the May 30 Biafra remembrance day by Nigerian security operatives have been invoked to trouble their killers and accomplice.

This is as the group asserted that the event organised in remembrance of Biafra fallen heroes was not an Igbo affair.

IPOB made the disclosure in a statement signed by its Deputy Leader, Uche Mefor.

Alleged killers of River States Assistant Superintendent of Police, two others apprehended


The Rivers state Police command has apprehended one Chimenem, a member of the criminal gang suspected to be the killer of three Police officers attached to Rumuolumeni Police Division of the state recently.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni in a statement said Chimenem and his criminal gang members were responsible for the murder, and that he has already confessed to the crime.

He said their criminal hideout was raided by the joint operation of the Police and the Military following useful information from the public.

End to PDP Crisis: Finally Sheriff and Makarfi agrees to meet


The camp of the embattled factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff has disclosed that the leadership crises currently rocking the party will soon be a thing of the past.

Sheriff’s camp said negotiation were currently ongoing, adding that Sheriff would soon meet with the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Sen Ahmed Makarfi in a bid to end the lingering feud in the party.

Factional Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Ojuogboh, “We are already negotiating, negotiations and talks are already in top gear and we have made remarkable progress in the process of resolving the issues.

Dino Melaye debunks report that he is plotting Buhari’s impeachment


The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Dino Melaye, has denied media reports that he was plotting and instigating the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the people spreading the falsehood were those who believe that a Nigeria that was not led by them must not exist.

Melaye represents Kogi West Senatorial District in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

PDP National Wahala: Secretariat yet to be reopened after 52 days


The National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party is yet to be reopened, 52 days after it was shut.

This is just as the party’s leadership crisis remains unresolved. A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria who visited the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday reports that its entrance was still locked and manned by men of the Nigeria Police.

As at the time of visit at 2pm, no fewer than 10 police officers were seen within and outside the secretariat.

Man's Best Friend: Dog saves family from cobra attack in Bayelsa


A dog on Sunday saved a family in Otuasega Community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa from cobra attack.

Catherine Isiki, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Yenagoa, described the attack as a “mystery to the family”.

Isiki said that the cobra “invaded” their home at about 1am on Sunday.

In Oyo: TUC plans mass action as NLC begins strike


The Trade Union Congress in Oyo State has decried the living condition of workers in the state, vowing to embark on mass action if the situation persisted.

The TUC Chairman, Emelieze Andrew, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Tuesday that urgent steps must be taken by states and the Federal Government to tackle the development.

Andrew also said TUC would embark on a mass protest at the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum it issued on Monday.

Troops of the 119 Task Force Battalion on Tuesday repelled attack from Boko Haram terrorists in Kangarwa, Borno State.

A statement by the Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka on Wednesday said the troops successfully repelled the insurgents after exchange of heavy gun fight.

According to Usman, “The attack which started at about 6.30pm, was successfully repelled after about 3 hours of exchange of heavy gunfire that inflicted tremendous casualty on the terrorists.”

INEC accepts Ize-Iyamu as PDP candidate for Edo guber


Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo September 10 governorship election, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Nick Dazang, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Deputy Director for Voter Education and Publicity, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr. Dazang said the decision to accept Mr. Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, led by Ahmed Makarfi, was informed by the court’s decision on the matter.

Special Adviser reveals why Buhari won’t approve amnesty for NDA, other militants


Senior Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Matters and Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), has explained why the Federal Government is not contemplating adding more Niger Delta militants into the amnesty programme.

Boroh, while speaking on a television programme yesterday, said his mandate was to reintegrate only 30,000 ex-agitators already captured.

His words: “Amnesty programme worldwide has a limit because it is a master piece strategy to resolve militancy. When that of Nigeria was established in 2009, it was supposed to exist for a particular time,” Boroh said.

Enugu: PDP says state don't need another party


The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State has declared that the people of the state have no need for another political party, stressing that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has wiped away their tears by keeping his campaign promises.

The state chairman of PDP, Mr. Augustine Nnamani, stated this at Ikem and Nkwo Nike during the inauguration of newly-elected PDP executives in Isi-Uzo and Enugu East Local Government Areas, noting that the governor’s unprecedented developmental strides and peace initiatives had made the repositioning process of the party easy.

In Lagos: Rapist stabs woman, blinds victim’s 10-year-old daughter


A suspected serial rapist who reportedly raped and stabbed a 60-year-old woman, Francisca, in the neck is currently on the run.

The fleeing suspect also brutalized his victim’s 10-year-old daughter identified only as Marvelous for daring to raise the alarm.

According to reports, the incident which happened weekend at the Ibeshe, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, saw the suspect sneaking into the victims’ apartment in the wee hours of the day, through the window.

The international headquarter of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has appealed for calm over the murder of its member, Mrs Eunice Elisha.
