Nigerian man found dead in his flat in Nalasopara, India (PHOTO)


Nigerian man identified as Daniel Henry, 30, was found dead in his rented flat in Moregaon, Nalasopara, India on Thursday night, July 7, the Tuling Police said.

According to Times of India, the Police has ruled out murder and suspect the victim to have been electrocuted in the kitchen. A police Inspector said the deceased may have died around three days ago due to electrocution in the kitchen where the body was found decomposed.

Ban Child Marriage: Tanzania & Gambia set 18 as the minimum age for marriage


Henceforth, it is illegal for girls and boys who are younger than 18 to marry in Tanzania and Gambia as both countries have outlawed child marriage. In a landmark decision, the Tanzanian High Court on Friday, July 8, ruled in favour of protecting girls from the harms of early marriage.

The court ruled unconstitutional section 13 and 17 of the 1971 Tanzania Law of Marriage Act, which allows girls to marry at age 15 with parental permission and at age 14 with the permission of a court.

Gladys Hooper, Britain's oldest person dies at the age of 113


Britain's oldest person Gladys Hooper - who was born the same year the aeroplane was invented - has died at the age of 113. Mrs Hooper broke a Guinness World Record last year when she became the oldest person to undergo a hip replacement operation.

89-year-old Renowned Islamic Scholar who already has 61 children marries another wife


According to journalist Jaafar Jaafar, 89-year-old renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, married the daughter of late Senegalese scholar and Tijjaniya caliph, Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse. Online Hausa publication, Rariya reports that the marriage was officiated by Sheikh Baba Laminu Niasse in Kaolack, Senegal. Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi took his first bride in 1948 and has 61 children.

Nigerian woman and her little kids are part of those rescued from a rubber boat in the Mediterranean Sea today


A Nigerian family are among the 120 people rescued this morning from two rubber boat in the Mediterranean Sea in a joint operation between MSF Sea and Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) They are safe on board the rescue ships and are doing well.

Zambia bar election campaigning over crisis


Political campaigning in Zambia’s capital Lusaka has been suspended for 10 days because of violent clashes ahead of next month’s national elections, the electoral commission announced at the weekend.

The ban comes less than three weeks after Zambia’s biggest independent newspaper, The Post, was shut down by the authorities over a tax dispute – a move is seen as an attempt to silence it before the August 11 vote.

Sepp Blatter undergoes skin cancer surgery


Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter underwent successful surgery after being diagnosed with skin cancer and has been released from the hospital, his spokesman and a report said Sunday.

The 80-year-old required the operation in Zurich but was in no danger at the time, Swiss daily Schweizer Illustrierte reported, saying the procedure was needed for skin cancer.

Anambra State to partners with Chinese Company in Agriculture, Power and Others


A project contracting company, China CAMC Engineering Limited is set to partner Anambra State in four key sectors of development.

A delegation from the company and some finance partners facilitated by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) revealed this during a courtesy call on the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano.

MNJTF Defence Chiefs promise to Flush out Boko Haram


Defence chiefs of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have resolved to intensify efforts towards clearing the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists around the Lake Chad Basin region.

The Council of Defence Chief of the MNJTF troop contributing countries reached the decision at the end of its special session held in Niger Republic.

A statement by the MNJTF spokesman, Colonel Muhammad Dole, said the session was held to reappraise the special joint operation around the Lake Chad Basin tagged ‘Operation Ganman Aiki’.

Mr Chika Emehelu, a 36-year-old Nigerian businessman in South Africa, on Sunday, appealed to the Federal Government to persuade the South African government to pay him compensation. Emehelu, a native of Udi in Enugu State, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg that he lost more than R800,000 (N12million) in the May 2013 xenophobic attacks in that country.

The businessman, who is married to a South African and has three children, said three shops at Portnolloth, a community in Northern Cape Province of South Africa, were looted during the attack.

Another case of jungle justice has been reported in Cross River. Two men have been brutally killed and burnt after a witch doctor told villagers that the victims were witches disturbing the community.

According to Leo Igwe, two chiefs have been burnt to death in Cross River State after a native doctor accused them of witchcraft. The names of the two victims are - Chief Bassey Effiom Ngwe and Mr Asuquo Effiong Etim.

Brazilian football legend Pele married for the third time in a small ceremony in Sao Paulo on Saturday evening.

The 75-year former Santos star wed his girlfriend of six years in the coastal town of Guaruja. Pele and Marcia Cibele Aoki were due to marry two years ago, but they were forced to postpone the ceremony after he suffered a series of health problems.

Dozens of Soldiers Killed on Independence Day in South Sudan


Fierce overnight artillery and gunfire fight has left more than 100 soldiers dead in South Sudanese capital, Juba, on the fifth anniversary of the country’s independence.

The fight started on Friday evening as President Salva Kiir, first Vice-president Riek Machar and second Vice President Igga Wani, met to discuss the cause of fighting which left five soldiers dead on Thursday.

South Sudanese local media reported the casualties at 150 dead, including 36 soldiers from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Opposition (SPLM-IO) loyal to Mr Machar and 80 from President Kiir’s side.

Mr Machar remains the Commander-In-Chief of the forces loyal to him while Mr Kiir maintains the command of the overall national security forces as part of a peace deal ending months of conflict.

Bayelsa Elders Claims Buhari’s Aides Frustrating Dialogue With Niger Delta Avengers



Some elders and traditional rulers from the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State on Friday alleged that some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides who hail from the Niger Delta were frustrating the proposed dialogue between the Federal Government and the new militant groups led by the Niger Delta Avengers.

According to the elders, though the decision of President Buhari to lead the proposed dialogue was commendable, his aides’ show of deceit, fraud and discordant tunes had created a huge gulf between the militant youths and the present administration.

The Bayelsa elders, who are members of Bayelsa Elders for Progress, Peace and Good Governance (BEPGG), made the assertions in a statement released by their coordinator, Ayibatonye Good news, and ‎secretary, Lucky Ebifaghe. They claimed that the recent activities of key presidential aides from the region, including Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, and the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Brigadier General Paul Boroh, were frustrating peace efforts.

Dozens of protesters were arrested and several police were injured Saturday night as tense protests over police force against African-Americans continued across the nation.

Police used smoke bombs to clear demonstrators blocking Interstate 94 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, late Saturday, while more than 30 people were arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Both cities continue reel after the deaths of two black men at the hands of white officers last week.

In Saint Paul, protesters chanted the name of Philando Castile, 32, who was fatally shot by a St. Anthony police officer in Falcon Heights on Wednesday.

Female Teenager Found Dead After Suffering Online Bullying (PHOTO)


A 16-year-old girl, identified as Britney Mazzoncini, has been found dead after she allegedly suffered a torrent of vile online bullying.

It’s reported that she took to social media to tell of her torment in the days leading up to her death.

She was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Thursday from her home in Glasgow but could not be saved.

Daily Record reports that Britney was subjected to online bullying and stopped using Facebook days before she died.

She will undergo an assessment to determine if she is a sexually violent predator. That determination could affect her sentence, which under the plea agreement, could be as long as 17 years. She will be required to register as a s*x offender.
