NSCDC nabs Two Oil Thieves In Abia


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) in Abia State has arrested two suspects carrying 20, 000 litres of crude oil in a truck on their way to Imo State from Port Harcourt

State Commandant, Dr.Benito Eze, said the command would continue to ensure that the oil thieves are chased out of the state as officers of the command are working tirelessly to handle the various tactics deployed by the oil vandals crippling the economy and syphoning the money meant for the entire country through their criminal activities.

Buhari forwards Magu's name to Senate for approval as EFCC Boss


Reports making the rounds suggest that  yesterday President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a letter of recommendation to the senate to confirm the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu as the substantive boss of the agency.

It was gathered that the President opted for Magu because of his “record-breaking performance, transparency, integrity and exceptional courage” since his appointment as the acting chairman of EFCC on November 9, 2015.

The letter was said to be forwarded to the Senate through his Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni joins National League side Boreham Wood on trial


Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has joined National League club, Boreham Wood, on trial. The 33-year-old failed to score in their 5-0 loss to Reading, in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

It was Boreham’s first pre-season game and Aiyegbeni started the match, but was substituted in the 60th minute. Aiyegbeni has previously played for Everton, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Reading in England.

MEND releases names of persons Buhari should negotiate with in 2 weeks


The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has given President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration two weeks to open talks with its “Reach out to ‘Aaron Team’ or face consequences.

MEND also responded to a recent piece titled ‘President Buhari sharpens focus on Niger Delta’, authored by Garba Shehu, presidential assistant on media and publicity.

Garba had lambasted the Niger Delta Avengers for “killing soldiers and policemen, kidnapping and killing of oil company workers and asking oil companies to stop operations and pack out of the Niger Delta region”.

Although the actual circumstances of his death are yet unknown, the man was said to have slumped and died as he waited to buy fuel at a filling station in Kano.

Ogun State Governor Set To Launch New Health Scheme


The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, will on Monday 11th July 2016, launch a new health scheme project called “Araya Scale Up”—the—project is a Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHS), meant to provide affordable health care service to members of the public.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, in a release, stated that the programme will be launched by the State Governor at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, by 12pm. He enjoined all Commissioners, Special Advisers, government functionaries and Permanent Secretaries of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to be seated by 10am.

Wife of England and Leicester City Striker Jamie Vardy, Rebekah Vardy has opened up about the horrific sexual abuse she endured when she was just a teenager and how it lead to her attempt of suicide twice.

The stunning brunette, 34, who married the England footballer, 29, just weeks ago, admitted she even attempted to take her own life twice as she struggled to cope with the ordeal.

The star revealed a "family friend" targeted her for three years as a teen, and it led to a downward spiral into depression and "devastating decisions".

Self-styled “tamer of the Leopard of Port Harcourt”, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Joseph Mbu, has said he is retiring to cocoa farming.

Mr Mbu, who was among 21 AIGs retired by the Police Service Commission, spoke yesterday during his pulling out ceremony at the Police Staff College in Jos, Plateau State.

The former Rivers and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, who will be remembered more for his several daring confrontations with former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, than for his gallant exploits as a police officer, also said he is leaving the Nigeria Police Force a fulfilled man.

Ogbonnaya Onovo says Compulsory Retirement Of DIGs, AIG's Detrimental To Police Force


A former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ogbonnaya Onovo, yesterday faulted the compulsory retirement of senior officers by the Police Service Commission.

He said to just retire Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) in one fell swoop amounts to a colossal waste and loss of valuable policing experience.

Mr Onovo, who was appointed IGP in 2009 by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, bared his mind at the Police Staff College, Jos, after the pulling out ceremony of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Joseph Mbu.

Mr Mbu was one of the 21 AIGs recently forced to retire by the PSC for being senior to the Acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris, before his appointment.

APC Chairman says Dasuki Did not Invite any APC Member when Sharing money


The ruling party, All Progressives Congress says the anti-corruption war of the Muhammadu Buhari’s government is neither selective nor partisan.

John Odigie-Oyegun, chairman of the APC, reiterated this claim in an interview with The Punch, where he noted that Peoples Democratic Party chieftains are being investigated because most of them received funds from Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser.

He said that when the former NSA was sharing money “from his ATM machine”, he didn’t extend an invitation to members of the opposition party.

Gallant Troop Repulse Terrorist Attack On Their Location At Rann, Borno State (Graphic Photos)


Yesterday evening remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in their numbers attacked our troop location at Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State. The terrorists came with Motorcycles Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (MCBIED), Anti-Aircraft Guns and other weapons at about 5.00pm and the exchange of fire lasted for some hours before they were overwhelmed by the troops firepower.

Unfortunately, one of the terrorists' suicide bomber detonated himself at a gun truck killing the driver and the gunner. The truck and the mounted weapon were also damaged beyond repairs. In addition 2 soldiers were wounded in action while 3 others sustained minor injuries.

The Global Peace Index (GPI) has released the 2016 edition of the most dangerous countries in the world stressing that the world is now a more dangerous place than it was one year ago.

GPI’s latest report from the Institute for Economics and Peace ranked 163 independent countries, which covers over 99 percent of the world’s population with Nigeria coming 15th.

To get this 10th edition, 23 indicators were used on a scale of one to five.  According to the report, the index measures global peace using three broad themes: the level of safety and security in society, the extent of the domestic and international conflict, and the degree of militarisation.

ISIS beheads Four Footballers for allegedly Spying (PHOTOS)


The terrorist group ISIS have allegedly executed four footballers in Syria, after accusing them of spying for Kurdish rebels. 

This religious leader of the group had earlier said that supporting football was against Islam and so what they did to the footballers was ‘justified’. 

Bahamas warns citizen travelling to the US to be extremely cautious


The Bahamas issued a travel advisory on Friday, July 8, warning its citizens planning to go to the United States to use “extreme caution” around police after recent shootings in Louisiana, Minnesota and Texas.
“At the commencement of the Independence holiday weekend, many Bahamians will no doubt use the opportunity to travel, in particular to destinations in the United States,” the nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration wrote, referencing the country's national holiday on July 10.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said it has arrested some suspects in connection with the killing of a woman preacher in Kubwa, FCT.

The FCT command’s Spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman, has directed the homicide section to take over the investigation.

Federal Government Set To Phase Out Mud Houses – Minister


The Federal Government is developing a draft action for the phasing out of mud houses across the country.

The minister of science and technology, Dr Ogbannaya Onu, disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Nnewi, Anambra state.

He said this would be made possible through research that would bring about cheap building materials that would enable Nigerians have affordable decent houses.

It’s the desire of this government to give Nigerians decent living conditions. That’s why we are charging NBRRI to go into research that would be felt at the grassroots.
