Philando Castile Shooting ‘was not RACE motivated'- Police Officer’s Attorney Says


An attorney for Geronimo Yanez, the police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, on Wednesday, July 6, said Saturday that the fatal shooting was not racially motivated.

He said:

Police arrest suspects in connection with the killing of female preacher in Abuja


The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said it has arrested some suspects in connection with the killing of a woman preacher in Kubwa, FCT.

The FCT command’s Spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman, has directed the homicide section to take over the investigation.

Federal Government Set To Phase Out Mud Houses – Minister


The Federal Government is developing a draft action for the phasing out of mud houses across the country.

The minister of science and technology, Dr Ogbannaya Onu, disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Nnewi, Anambra state.

He said this would be made possible through research that would bring about cheap building materials that would enable Nigerians have affordable decent houses.

It’s the desire of this government to give Nigerians decent living conditions. That’s why we are charging NBRRI to go into research that would be felt at the grassroots.

Popular Nollywood Actor in need of N11m for kidney transplant


National President of Filmmakers Welfare Organisation of Nigeria (FWON), Mr Sunday Awoji has said that ailing Nollywood actor, Prince James Uche needs N11 million to undergo kidney transplant abroad.

He stated this on Friday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. 
“Prince James Uche has been very sick and incapacitated for some years now, and it has become obvious that he cannot provide the required funds to have the necessary medical attention.

APC Chairman says Buhari’s Popularity has Dropped

Former Aide to Akpabio says PDP founded Niger Delta Avengers


Ata Ikiddeh, a former special assistant on diaspora matters to immediate past Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio has described the Niger Delta Avengers as the military arm of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Reacting to the ongoing war on corruption by the current government, he said, “this government is a joke”, via a Facebook post.

When asked by one of his Facebook followers, Edim Asanaenyi, if the militant group was now a military wing of the PDP, Mr Ikiddeh responded, “I am afraid to admit that – but that’s what this government is turning the Avengers into the ‘resistance’ wing of the PDP.

Nasarawa State Government appoint fresh graduates to replace striking workers


Nassarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, on Saturday, threatened to recruit fresh graduates to replace workers in the state currently on strike over non-payment of their salary.

The governor issued the threat in Nassarawa Eggon at the celebration of the 35th coronation anniversary of Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Angbazo.

He, however, appealed to the workers to return to work, recalling that the state was among the first in the country to implement the N18,000 minimum wage in 2011.


He commended the Aren Eggon for his contributions toward the sustenance of peace in the state and urged the people to support the government and the traditional rulers in the effort, regardless of religious and political affiliations.

Police Officer escape death after he tried to seize Flag of Biafra at Enugu Rangers Match


A mild drama ensued at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu last night during a football match between Rangers of Enugu and Abia Warriors of Umuahia.

A group of young Igbo youths were moving round with Ogene music when one of them was seen displaying Biafran flag.

His action provoked a police officer within the stadium and he moved towards the young man holding the flag and attempted to snatch it from him.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, says the party is sad that a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the Deputy Senate President.

Psquare Feud! Peter Okoye threatens to sue brothers over Congo Concert


Nigerian singing duo, P-square are at war again, ending the relative calm enjoyed in their camp since the much-publicised beef in March this year. 

One-half of the duo, Peter Okoye was now known as ‘Mr P’, has dissociated himself from a concert scheduled to hold in Congo with Psquare as headliners, stressing that  he never endorsed the usage of his name as the contractual terms presented were not favourable to him. NUPENG urge FG to stop giving bailout funds to state governments


The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers on Saturday advised the Federal Government against the issuance of bailout funds to state governments for the payment of workers’ salaries.

The NUPENG’s South-West Chairman, Mr Tokunbo Korodo, gave the advice in Lagos.

The disbursement of bailout funds to the states was necessitated by the prevailing economic challenges which resulted in the non-payment of workers’ salaries by many states across the federation.

The state governments received N713.7billion as bailout funds from the federal government, to defray the backlog of salaries.

Stanbic IBTC partners with Google on digital inclusion in Nigeria


Stanbic IBTC Bank says it is collaborating with Google to train youths and Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) operators in Nigeria on digital skills.

A statement issued by the bank on Saturday said that the collaboration would facilitate capacity-building for SMEs in the country, adding that beneficiaries would be trained on skills and value of digital marketing.

It said that the training would also help entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses and support digital education initiatives geared toward job creation.
