Read President Buhari Messages directed to Niger Delta Militants Today


President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Niger Delta militants that the sovereignty of Nigeria is not negotiable. He has therefore asked them to accept that fact and support peaceful efforts to turn Nigeria around.

Man names his daughter after Governor Wike's wife in appreciation for their help


Kevin Nengia named his daughter who was born yesterday, July 5, after the wife of Rivers State Governor, Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, in appreciation for their help while his wife was battling cancer, during pregnancy, but she eventually delivered safely.

An Australian man called the police on his father because his father set fire to his cannabis (Indian hemp) farm. According to Police, the young man seemed to believe that his father burning his 'precious' Cannabis plants was a far worse crime than he cultivating the crop, resulting in a fight between the young man and his father.

Officers attended the Humpty Doo residence, 40km south of Darwin, and confirmed the accusation, before questioning whether the young man knew it was against the law to possess cannabis.

President Buhari says the unity of Nigria is non-negotiable


President Buhari today said the unity of Nigeria as a country is non-negotiable and would be protected by his government. Speaking when Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led other government functionaries to pay him a visit to mark Eid Mubarak, President Buhari said those who were around between 1967 and 1970 when the former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon was preaching the one-Nigeria message, would understand that the unity of the country is not negotiable.

Edo woman on trial for trafficking of minors into Europe and forcing them into prostitution


Nigerian woman is accused of being a major organizer in a network which trafficked young women, mainly teenagers from remote parts of Nigeria before selling into prostitution in Europe, a court heard on Tuesday, July 5.

Franca Asemota, 38, from Benin City, Edo State allegedly used witchcraft to round up and terrify the teenagers before selling them into prostitution in Europe, a court heard.

A European Arrest Warrant (EAW) was issued for her when she was thought to be in Italy, but NCA officers later tracked her down to Nigeria.

On March 24, 2015, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Asemota in Benin City, on suspicion of money laundering charges. Following liaison with the NCA her fingerprints were checked against UK records and her identity was established. 

Men caught smuggling hundreds of iPhones into China by hiding them in buckets of fish


Police successfully caught fishermen who were attempting to smuggle 370 iPhone 6S phones, estimated to cost worth around two million yuan (£228,000), hidden in buckets with fish placed on top, into China. According to reports, this is the first time that smugglers have used this method.

The police had decided stop the boat in waters close to the city of Shenzhen after they noticed that it was travelling suspiciously fast and noticed that there were a number of dead fish onboard. Officials could tell that the men were particularly nervous and took a more detailed look at the boat once it was stopped. When they checked the buckets of fish, they found 370 iPhones hidden among some fish carcasses.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Ajayi, will be buried today according to Islamic rites, a family source has said.

Her full name is Zainab Bukky Ajayi and she was born on February 2, 1934. Ajayi has worked as an announcer, presenter and newscaster at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). She  studied at the Stanislavsky Institute of Drama, London.

For the late veteran actress, her love for the theatre was influenced by her father who took her to the cinemas as a young girl.

Her interest for acting was so much that she used to do a cardboard sort of cinema for children, and charge half a penny to come and watch.

Ajayi was on scholarship in London from the Federal government for six years. She later left the shores of England and came back to Nigeria after her education in 1965 and started out working in Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as a presentation assistant in 1966.

Poland hands Coach Nawalka new contract


Adam Nawalka has signed a new contract to keep him in charge of Poland until the end of their World Cup 2018 campaign.

Nawalka guided Poland to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, earning seven points in the group stage before defeating Switzerland on penalties in the first knockout round.

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai were part of the dignitaries at the Eid Fitr prayer which was concluded peacefully and successfully at the Ramat Square, in Maiduguri the state capital this morning.

In Abuja: Transformer explodes, kills pregnant woman, others


Commotion struck at the Tundunwada area of Lugbe, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja after a transformer exploded and electrocuted six persons, including a pregnant woman to death and leaving about four persons critically wounded.

The transformer belonging to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, was on fire for about 10 minutes during which it sent devastating electric current to some residential apartments in the area, the Punch gathered.

82 years old Veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Ajayi has died. The well respected actress died today July 6th. She made her last public appearance at the 2016 AMVCA in March where she won the AMVCA Merit Award.

Lionel Messi sentenced to 21 months in Prison for Tax Fraud


Lionel Messi and his father Jorge have been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, but the Barcelona forward is not expected to spend any time behind bars.

The Court of Catalonia on Wednesday found that the Messis had evaded tax on Lionel’s image rights, with more than €4m owed in back payments. But because the court’s sentence was less than two years and neither Messi has a criminal record, neither will be sent to prison.
