Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai were part of the dignitaries at the Eid Fitr prayer which was concluded peacefully and successfully at the Ramat Square, in Maiduguri the state capital this morning. 

Unlike previous years, no bomb blast incident has been recorded in any of the prayer grounds in the state. The Eid prayer which was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Asil Alsunusiyyu, also had in attendance other top government and military officials.

In Abuja: Transformer explodes, kills pregnant woman, others


Commotion struck at the Tundunwada area of Lugbe, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja after a transformer exploded and electrocuted six persons, including a pregnant woman to death and leaving about four persons critically wounded.

The transformer belonging to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, was on fire for about 10 minutes during which it sent devastating electric current to some residential apartments in the area, the Punch gathered.

Lionel Messi sentenced to 21 months in Prison for Tax Fraud


Lionel Messi and his father Jorge have been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, but the Barcelona forward is not expected to spend any time behind bars.

The Court of Catalonia on Wednesday found that the Messis had evaded tax on Lionel’s image rights, with more than €4m owed in back payments. But because the court’s sentence was less than two years and neither Messi has a criminal record, neither will be sent to prison.

Unknown Gunmen abduct Expatriate in Lagos


A yet-to-be-named expatriate working as a contractor from Granebury Construction Company handling the Epe Township Expansion Project, Epe, being executed by the Lagos State Government has been reportedly kidnapped.

He was kidnapped on Monday night while working on the site. The Punch is reporting that the gunmen shot into the air before taking the victim away.

Confirming the kidnap, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Dolapo Badmos, said efforts were on to ensure the victim’s release.

Irele community’s monarch kidnapped in Ondo State



Suspected kidnappers stormed the palace of a foremost monarch in Irele local government area of Ondo State, the Laragunsin of Iyasan, Oba Abiodun Oyewumi and took him away on Monday night.

Sources in the town told DAILY POST that an unspecified number of kidnappers stormed Iyasan around 10:30 pm on Monday night and headed straight to the palace where they operated unhindered for about 30 minutes.

The source said the suspected kidnappers invaded the town through Owena River that serves as boundary between Ondo and Edo state.

The Chairman of Irele local government, Hon Sanmi Elumaro who confirmed the kidnapping said the kidnappers numbering about ten came into the town through the waterways and headed to the palace.

Police in pursuit for "native doctor" who treated robbery suspect


Manhunt has been intensified by the Enugu State Police Command for a herbalist who allegedly treat robbery suspect who escape with bullet wounds during a gun battle with the police in his herbal clinic.

This was contained in a release titled, “Enugu herbalist on the run over treatment of robbery suspect,” made available to newsmen yesterday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent Ebere Amaraizu.

He revealed that the native doctor treated the suspect in his clinic located at Orba in Udenu Local Government Council.

Kidnappers nabbed while going to collect N3m ransome in hotel


Police detectives in Akwa Ibom state have arrested three suspected members of a kidnap syndicate as the leader went to pick up N3 million ransom from relatives of a kidnapped victim.

The suspects – Austin Agba, 35; Friday Sunday Paul, 23, and Christian Ekenu, 27 were nabbed at Olympus Hotel, along Afaha Uqua Road, Eket Local Government Area of the state, the venue for the pick-up.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, who paraded the suspects before newsmen in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the state capital yesterday, said they were members of the same gang.

The PPRO assured that the police, under Mr. Murtala Mani, was equal to the task of making the state uncomfortable for criminals.

"She has no female domestic staff" - Group disclose to defend Stella Oduah's N2.5bn Controversy


It seems that Oduah has now received even more support from a  group known as South East Association of Igbo Ladies, SEAIL.  The group has claimed that Oduah has no female domestic staff to begin with.

The group released a statement to this effect saying, “We would like to state unequivocally that this report is totally false, baseless and has no sense in it. In the first place, Senator Oduah has no female domestic staff.

7 Year old uses Father's Gun to shoot housemaid to death


Tragedy struck in an Abia state household when a 7 year old boy  allegedly playfully gunned down the housemaid with his father’s gun.

According to The Vanguard, the child had picked up his father’s gun from his room thinking it was a toy and pointed it at the housemaid stating playfully that he’d kill her before doing just that when the gun was fired.

A woman known as Prosper Ortega has landed in the hospital with horrifying injuries after her husband beat her to a bloody pulp.

Prosper who only just recently gave birth to a beautiful baby called Ari had to endure severe beating from her husband, Aaron Uchitel,  who tried to take their child from her.

Ortega’s family said that he tortured her for days and drugged her drinks to keep her weak and that all this happened in the presence of the infant.

Esther Levy visited the Cancun Inn eatery in Sugar Loaf, NY, with a retired local judge after coming back from a July 4th Great American Weekend Festival on Sunday.

Breaking: Oscar Pistorius bags 6 years in prison for murder of girlfriend



South African Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius was taken to jail immediately on Wednesday after being sentenced to serve six years for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. 

The state had called for him to receive no less than the prescribed minimum 15-year sentence for murder. "Public opinion may be loud and persistent, but it can play no role in the decision of this court," High Court judge Thokozile Masipa said in her ruling.

Doctors hails man's miraculous penis after his genitals saved his life when he was struck by lightning. 

Zoran Jurkovic, 41, from the small eastern Croatian village of Petrovci was listening to his headphones when a thunderstorm formed overhead and after being struck on the head by a bolt, it earthed itself through his penis.

The medics said that it was a miracle that the lightning charge had bypassed Zoran’s chest and missed his heart.

ISIS executed seven of its own fighters by boiling them alive as punishment for fleeing an Iraqi battlefield. The terrorists ran away from a conflict in Sharqat in the Salahuddin province and were killed by order of Islamic State on Monday,the American Herald Tribune reports.

Before being thrown into a giant cauldron of boiling water, the seven absconders had their hands and feet bound tightly making absolutely sure of no escape, according to a local source.
