Alex Ferguson says Mourinho right not to make Giggs his assistant


Sir Alex Ferguson has said Jose Mourinho was right, not to include Ryan Giggs on his Manchester United coaching staff.

Giggs left Old Trafford last weekend after 29 years at the club, after Mourinho offered him a reduced role. The Welshman had acted as assistant to David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, after Ferguson left United in 2013.

Mourinho will bring his trusted No.2, Rui Faria and Ferguson says the Portuguese needed someone he could trust.

Ohanaeze slams INEC, passes no vote of confidence on Uche Ogah


The Ohanaeze Youth Council passes no vote of confidence on Uche Ogah. They said this at a press conference it held at Abuja on Monday. They also accused Ogah of being desperate for power.

While noting that Dr Ogah was fronting for some elements who were opposed to Igbo political interest, they vowed to checkmate his antics.

The press conference was jointly addressed by Mazi Obinna Achuonye, the National Vice Chairman of the body in Imo State, Dr Kingsley

Chiedozie, the Deputy National treasurer of the body and Barrister Chika Nzelu, a stakeholder of the organisation.

Lagos State Arrest Hundred of Traders over Street Hawking


Hundreds of street traders were on Monday arrested in different parts of Lagos metropolis by men of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), for hawking on the streets.

The State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, had last week Friday announced the enforcement of the law banning street trading and hawking.

Ambode, who was speaking on a live TV interview, warned that the law stipulates six months jail term or N90,000 fine for offenders.

The governor said that the renewed enforcement is in line with Section One of the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003 which restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis.

CBN appoints new Skye Bank CEO


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has appointed Tokunbo Abiru, former commissioner of finance in Lagos state, as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of Skye Bank.

This was done, following the resignation of Timothy Oguntayo and the dissolution of the top management of the eighth-biggest lender in the Nigerian banking sector.

Abiru was Lagos commissioner of finance (2011- 2013) under the leadership of Babatunde Fashola, the current minister of power, works and housing.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tomi Ikimi, has disclosed why Governor Adams Oshiomhole won his 2012 re-election.

He said Oshiomhole won his second term because former President Goodluck Jonathan provided a level playing field.

Chief Ikimi disclosed that the party was set to drop Governor Oshiomhole after his first term but that Oshiomhole begged him to be given a second term ticket.

Ikimi noted that Oshiomhole won the election with a landslide victory, not because of his merit but because himself and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu took him to former President Jonathan to demand a level playing field.

14 Nigeria Prisons officers Suspended


The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board has approved the suspension of four senior officers while the Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed in his capacity, also approved the suspension of 10 junior personnel of the prison.

This followed the escape of two high profile inmates, Solomon Amodu and Maxwell Ajukwu  who were standing trial for culpable homicide from lawful custody in Kuje Medium Security Prison on June 24, 2016.

A statement on Monday in Abuja by the Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, said the  affected officers and men include, the Officer in-charge of Kuje Prisons, DCP Musa Tanko; SIP Buhari  Dogo; PIPs Stephen Edogbanya; Patrick Teru;  IPs Usman Peter and Dennis Makum.

Others are IP Fassan Akin; SPAs Daka  James; Adamu Luka; SPA Zakari Yunasa ; PAs Asnamal Samuel, Ejegwa Patrick, Isah Ibrahim and Ngede  Salifu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday approved the appointment of of Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The appointment was contained in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

With the latest appointment, Baru replaced Dr. Ibe Kachikwu who has been doubling as the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources and GMD, NNPC.

Ahmed Musa confirms Leicester City move


Premier League champions Leicester City have agreed a deal with CSKA Moscow to sign Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa, the player’s agent disclosed on Monday.

Chief Financial Officer of MTN Group resigns


The Chief Financial Officer of MTN Group is to step down in September after more than a decade at Africa’s biggest telecoms operator, the company said on Monday.

In a statement by the company in Johannesburg said Brett Goschen had held the position since 2013.

According to MTN, its Rwanda Chief Executive Gunter Engling will assume the position of Acting Group CFO on Brett’s departure until a permanent CFO is appointed.

Goschen leaves the company in the middle of a hunt for new revenue streams that includes convincing its more than 200 million users to use their handsets for everything from storing money to paying bills.

Man burns his ex-wife's car and his own house after he was refuse from seeing his child

A 29-year-old old man burnt his ex-wife's car and also burnt down his own house yesterday night, July 3 at Balai Panjang, Malaysia, after a demand to see his child was rejected.

The man had faced the court earlier in February for a previous incident of physically abusing his ex-wife. It is believed that last night, he had asked to see their child and when the request was denied, he decided to vent his fury on the ex-wife.

Three Female Suicide Bombers Shot Dead Just Before Detonating Bombs At IDPS


According to a statement signed by Sani Usman, the acting spokesman of the Nigerian Army, three female suicide bombers were shot in Monguno in Borno states, while they were getting ready to attack internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The Nigerian army said that the bombers were targeting some IDPs who were fetching water at a borehole along Marte road, on the outskirts of the town.

The Nigerian Army on Monday said its troops have detected and gunned down three Boko Haram female suicide bombers, killing both instantly.

The troops said the three female suicide bombers attempted to attack Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the outskirt of Monguno town along Marte road.

The Army spokesman, Sani Usman made this disclosure in a statement issued on Monday, disclosing that two civilians were injured by explosive the suicide bombers were strapped on when it exploded.

According to a report on Evening Standard, a 17-year-old Nigerian student, Fola Orebiyi, who was studying at Chelsea Academy after completing his GCSEs at Holland Park, was stabbed to death yesterday, July 3, in Notting Hill in front of horrified tourists and passers-by after fleeing from a gang of youths on bikes.

It was gathered that some customers and staff from the near-by Portobello Star pub rushed to help him as he staggered down the street. Paramedics and doctors attempted life saving treatment in the road but the teenager died at the scene after loosing so much blood.

Man who impregnated 10 years old girl and fled to Haiti finally arrested months later


Raymond Vincent, a 46-year-old Florida resident, impregnated a 10-year-old girl, earlier this year and fled. According to the Sun Sentinel, when he heard that his victim was pregnant, Vincent fled Florida and headed to Haiti, but on Friday afternoon, July 1, U.S. marshals were able to capture him in Port-au-Prince.

Once Vincent was apprehended, marshals returned him to South Florida, where he was turned over to detectives at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Career Criminal Unit. 

Golden said U.S. Marshals in the Dominican Republic worked with Haitian National Police and U.S. State Department investigators for several months to lovate Vincent.

Ahmed Markafi wins PDP Chairmanship


On Monday, July4, 2016, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Mohammed Liman ruled that the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to have dissolved the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led executive of the party and appointed a Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Markafi was in order.

The court also declared that Makarfi is legally appointed by the National Convention and that the National Caretaker Committee is the authentic executive of the PDP.

Suspected Suicide bomber blows himself outside US consulate in Saudi Arabia


A suspected suicide bomber was killed and two other people wounded in a blast outside the US consulate in Saudi Arabia's city of Jeddah early on Monday, Saudi state TV said. 

Security officers became suspicious of a man near the parking lot of Dr Suleiman Faqeeh Hospital, which is directly across the US diplomatic mission. When they moved in to investigate, his device detonated, killing him and lightly wounding three security men.

The attack happened at around 215am(23:15 GMT) on July 4, the day when Americans celebrate their independence.
