Say What! Katy Perry Sets A New Twitter Record With 90 Million Followers


Katy Perry just set a new Twitter record when she reached 90 million followers on Friday, July 1. Twitter announced the huge milestone with a tweet. 
“It’s party time, @katyperry! With 90 million on the guest list, we’re gonna need a really big dance floor,” the social media network wrote. 
“Dang this is tight,” Perry, 31, responded, adding a cool emoji with sunglasses and a smirk.
The “This Is How We Do” singer, who skyrocketed to fame with her 2008 single “I Kissed a Girl,” joined Twitter in 2009 while on tour in Germany.

UK-trained Nigerian engineer Timothy Addigi Terfa is getting ready to launch a Nigerian-built tractor. Mr. Terfa said: 
"I designed and built this tractor, which is 100% Nigerian, with a team of skilled individuals." He has called the tractor Ijodo, meaning labour in the Tiv language.

Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria kidnapped in Kaduna, N44m ransom demanded


Sierra Leone's Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Maj-Gen. Nelson Williams has been reportedly kidnapped in Kaduna. According to the Chairman of Nigeria Human Rights Commission, a ransom of N44m is being demanded. His driver is also missing.

Fire drill emergency in Hotel got Chrissy Teigen ran out of hotel with baby Luna half naked


Chrissy Teigen's mother Vilailuck shared this photo of her daughter rushing out from Hotel Bel Air during a fire drill.
"It's just a drill but we thought it's for real" Luna's grandma said on Instagram yesterday.

Federal Government Signs MOU On $11.117bn Lagos-calabar Railway


The Federal Government has signed a contract agreement with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) on the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Railway project.

The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who signed on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, said the contract is an addendum to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Railway project which was initially awarded by the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration to CCECC at a contract sum of $11.917 billion disclosing that at the inception of President Muhammadu Buhari Administration, the Federal Government renegotiated the contract with the Management of CCECC and agreed at a contract sum of $11.117 billion thereby saving a whooping sum of $800million.

Vicente del Bosque quit as Spain’s coach after the defending champions crashed out of Euro 2016, ending one of football’s most successful managerial dynasties. 

Del Bosque, 65, won a World Cup and a European Championship in a glorious era for Spanish football. He also won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid. 

His legacy was tainted by Spain’s disastrous first round exit at the 2014 World Cup and now their defeat in the last 16 at the European Championship. Some of the team’s greatest players are also expected to retire soon.

Gov Lalong blames predecessor over cattle ranch protest


Governor Solomon Lalong of Plateau State has accused his predecessor, Senator Jonah Jang, of allegedly masterminding the recent protest in the state over the introduction of cattle ranches as a way of ending the incessant farmers’ and herdsmen’s clashes.

Lalong, who spoke with State House correspondents on Friday shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, stated that what the protesters kicked against was grazing reserve while the state government was talking about ranches.

He, however, noted that the protest was restricted to a few ethnic groups, adding that his government had done a lot of consultations and that all stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders and youth organisations accepted that the state should adopt ranching.

Federal Teaching Hospital engulfed by fire in Gombe


The Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe was Friday morning engulfed by fire that lasted for about two hours.

The Chief Medial Director of the hospital, Dr. Abubakar Saidu disclosed that the fire began early hours of Friday and was fully stopped by men of the State Fire Service at about 8:00 am, having consumed the staff lounge and some offices.

He explained, “We woke up this morning and discover there was fire in the old administrative block, specifically from one of the lounges.

Abuja-Kaduna Rail: FG to acquire more coaches for – Amaechi


The Federal Government will soon acquire more coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna railway service to enable it cope with the population of commuters plying the route, an official has said.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, made the disclosure on Friday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

He said that the four coaches on the ground could only convey 380 passengers while the volume of passengers was much higher.

Yesterday morning, the troops of 118 Task Force Battalion, 8 Task Force Division, on blocking position at Garere Junction, ambushed Boko Haram terrorists at Gudumbali, the northern part of Borno State, while they were crossing to another location with some logistics items.

During the operation, the troops killed 2 and wounded one of the Boko Haram terrorists.

They also recovered 2 AK-47 and a G3 rifle. In addition, they recovered 660 Litres of Premium Motor Spirit and yards of military uniforms.

Abia crisis: Attorney-General says INEC lied, confirms they were served notice of appeal

Contrary to claims by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that they did not receive any Notice of Appeal from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu or an injunction stopping the Commission from issuing a Certificate of Return to Dr. Uche Ugah, the Attorney General of Abia State, Mr. Umeh Kalu, has said that INEC lied in its claims.

A proof service has shown that the Commission did indeed receive the two important documents and it was signed for by Saleh N. Ibrahim, Senior Clerical Officer at the Legal Services Department of the Commission's Headquarters, Abuja, who stamped the Notice of Appeal and Injunction with the Commission's official stamp by 12.50pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

School Management Expel Eight Girls From School After They Got Pregnant


Eight girls from a school in Elgeyo-Marakwet a county in Kenya have been expelled after the school management discovered they had fallen pregnant. Moi Girls Kapsowar High School in Elgeyo-Marakwet county expelled the girls on grounds that they are likely to pull down the school’s mean grade. Among them are three from four candidates who are also said to have been de-registered by the school for fear that they will affect its performance in this year’s national examinations. The parents have expressed their disappointment as their plans secure a bright future for their children has been dashed.

Say What! Primary School Teacher Impregnates Class Four Pupil


A shocking incident has thrown pupils and teachers of a primary school into a state of bewilderment after a  teacher at a primary school in Laikipia North allegedly impregnated a Class Four pupil in Kenya.

According to News24, the pupil informed the school Guidance and Counseling teacher, who has since been transferred from the school, that the male teacher made her pregnant. The case was also reported to police and education officers in the sub-County.

The education officers including the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Laikipia County director, Abubakar Hassan visited the school several times to investigate the matter.

After 40 years of Crushing, 58-year-old man finally marries 64-year-old woman


58-year-old Mzee Selemia Ayeko Wandago from Likoni, Mombasa County, Kenya married Phyllis Okisa, 64, a woman he had been secretly admiring close to four decades.
"Finding true love has not been easy, especially after I parted ways with my first wife with whom we bore two sons (now grown-ups) and my second wife who passed away, leaving me with three young children,"  says Ayeko whose wife from his second marriage died while giving birth.
 Ayeko says they knew each other decades ago when Okisa regularly came visiting her sister, who was married to the former’s uncle. The two love birds confessed that at some point they got attracted to each other, but could not date for fear of stigma associated with relative (however distant) who fall in love.

Prisoners who escaped from Kuje prison re-arrested


Maxwell Ajukwu and Solomon Amodu, the two prisoners that escaped from Kuje Prison Abuja last Friday, June 24th, have been re-arrested. 

According to Sahara Reporters, prison officials confirmed the re-arrest of the two inmates and said they are currently being detained at the Department of State Security's office in Abuja. The prison officials did not state where or how the inmates were caught.
