ALERT! Six States at Risk of Earthquake (See List)


The Nigerian Association of Water-Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP) has called on the Federal Government to take measures that could reduce the effects of an earthquake as 6 states with land-ocean boundaries exist at the risk of a possible earthquake.

AWDROP, at a press conference addressed by its National President, Mr Michael Ale, lamented that lack of Underground Water Abstraction Regulation in Nigeria could easily induce earthquake and sea water intrusion, “hence the need for government to ensure strict compliance in the implementation of the code of practice in borehole drilling” in the country.

Former Delta Speaker Ochei, Chief Ogboru, Others Decamp To APC


Serial governorship election contender in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogboru was the Labour Party candidate in the 2015 governorship election while Ochei was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The defection of the political heavyweights ended months of speculations about their political future.

Ogboru and Ochei, along with their supporters and members in the LP and Accord Party as well as some leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State, were yesterday, formally presented to the national leadership of the APC by the party’s candidate in the last governorship polls, Olorogun O’tega Emehor and the state’s Chairman, Prophet Jones Erue.

Factional PDP Chairman Ali Modu Sheriff Appoints Cairo Ojougboh As Deputy National Chair


Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has appointed the immediate past vice chairman (South-South) of the party, Dr Cairo Ojougboh as the faction’s Deputy National Chairman.

Ojougboh was one of the party’s mainstream national officials that were sacked during the May 21 national convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Ojougboh’s letter of appointment was jointly signed by Sheriff and the faction’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo.

Vincenzo Montella replaces Cristian Brocchi as AC Milan new coach


AC Milan has named former Sampdoria boss Vincenzo Montella as their new head coach on a two-year contract.

The 42-year-old will take over from Cristian Brocchi, who was acting as caretaker boss following Sinisa Mihajlovic’s sacking in April.

Milan finished seventh in Serie A last season and lost to Juventus in the Italian Cup final.

The San Siro club said it was looking forward to “the brilliant system of play of the new Rossoneri coach”.

FA target Arsene Wenger as next replacement for Roy Hodgson


The English FA will launch a global search for the next England manager – but Arsene Wenger is already at the top of their list.

Gareth Southgate will be placed in caretaker charge and is expected to lead the Three Lions into the World Cup qualifying campaign, which starts on September 4 against Slovakia.

But FA bosses admit the next appointment is massive and that they want someone with vast experience at the highest level to replace Roy Hodgson.

He quit in the wake of Monday night’s shambolic defeat to Iceland in Nice that saw England exit Euro 2016.

Suicide Attack at Istanbul Airport Leaves 10 persons dead


At least 10 people were killed Tuesday evening in a suicide attack at the international terminal of Istanbul’s Ataturk airport, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said.

Two explosions hit the airport — Turkey’s biggest — followed by gunfire, local television channels reported. “Unfortunately 10 people have been killed according to a preliminary toll,” Bozdag told parliament in Ankara.

Red Cross apologize over 'Racist' swimming pool poster that sparks Twitter outrage


The American Red Cross has apologized after a poster depicting pool safety rules was circulated on Twitter and slammed by users for being "super racist." 

The poster, which shows a crowd of cartoon children committing an array of poolside do's and dont's, was spotted at the Salida Pool and Recreation Department in Salida, Colorado by a twitter user who uploaded the picture causing a lot of backlashes. As you can see, it's only the black kids that are doing things that aren't cool in the pool ...

Two suspected cable thieves caught, beating and tied to a transformer fence in Abuja


Angry mob last Wednesday nabbed two suspected cable thieves and tied them to a transformer fence at Anagada village, Gwagwalada Area Council.

According to Daily Trust, a resident of the community identified as LLiyasu said the two suspects allegedly went to vandalize a newly installed transformer at the outskirts of the community but a security guard at the village primary school heard strange sounds from the direction of the transformer and raised an alarm.

Nigerian doctors allegedly removed giant fibroid weighing 26kg from a woman


So there was a Facebook by Abraham OC Ogolo, who says some doctors at a Nigerian hospital removed a giant fibroid weighing 26kg from a woman's stomach. Further research says the surgery took place in 2014 in Nigeria.

"Doctors from Safe Hands Medicare Center Nigeria have removed this. According to the hospitals social media report, confirmatory results shows that the mass weighed 26kg in Histopathology lab and was a 32cm degenerating fibroid. This makes it the Largest ever mass to be removed from an individual in any part of the world.

MCG Empire Boss, MC Galaxy signs Rwandan singer, Neza


Nigerian singer MC Galaxy who launched his record label MCG Empire in 2015 has signed a recording deal with fast rising Rwandan singer Patricia Neza Masozera, otherwise known as ‘Neza‘.

Neza who won the African Entertainment Award in 2012 as the Best Female act is a Rwandan singer based in Canada.

Since signing with MCG Empire, Neza has released her first song ‘My Baby’ produced by Wole Ogundare and featuring MC Galaxy.

In Anambra: Standard Organisation of Nigeria seals tyre marketing firms


The Standard Organisation of Nigeria has sealed premises of some tyre marketing companies in Awka and Onitsha in Anambra State for distributing suspected substandard tyres.

Head of SON in the state, Mr Samuel Ayuba, who led a team of officers on the operation on Tuesday, said that the raid was part of an effort to check further circulation of substandard tyres in the country.

Ayuba said that the tyres were brought into the country as new and were being sold as such, but explained that the outer layer of the tyres peeled off after covering some distance in journeys.

He said that it was based on reports of such incidents that the organisation decided to carry out an investigation of the complaints.

China Made airplane makes first commercial flight (PHOTO)


China’s homegrown regional jet made its first commercial flight Tuesday, operator Chengdu Airlines said, after years of delays raised questions about the country’s ambitious plans for domestically-produced planes.

Chengdu Airlines flew the ARJ21 from its eponymous home base, the capital of the southwestern province of Sichuan, to the commercial hub Shanghai carrying 70 passengers.

More than half were paying customers who were aware they were flying in a new plane, an airline spokesman told AFP.

The ARJ21 — which stands for Advanced Regional Jet for the 21st Century — will ferry flyers on the Chengdu-Shanghai route three times a week, he added.

The inaugural flight was the culmination of a 14-year programme to make China a commercial aircraft manufacturer capable of competing with dominant foreign players Boeing and Airbus.
