Ogun State Deputy Governor escapes death after Militants attack


Suspected militants on Monday attacked the security team of Yetunde Onanuga, deputy governor of Ogun state.

They engaged Onaguga’s security team in a gun battle when she embarked on an inspection visit to borderline communities between Ogun and Lagos states‎ sacked by militants.

The incident happened at Akoka Ebute area of Ibafo in Obafemi-Owode local government area.

As the advance security team led by the service chiefs was approaching Ibafo creeks, where the suspected militants were believed to be hiding, a barrage of gunfire ensued, forcing the law enforcement agents to take cover.

Popular Musician missing after releasing anti-corruption song


A popular musician in Adamawa State, Ado Daukaka, has gone missing hours after his new album, which condemned corrupt practices, hit the airwave, his family said.

He went missing after some unknown persons visited his home in the wee hours of Saturday, his wives said.

Mr. Daukaka, who came to limelight during the reign of ex-Governor, Murtala Nyako, with his popular praise song for the former governor, “Baba mai mangoro ndottijon arziki”, was last seen on Saturday after he left for early morning prayer.

The musician’s wives were quoted as saying some strangers came asking for him after he set out for prayer.

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen attack in Plateau, leave 22 dead


Suspected Fulani armed men have killed 22 peo­ple and injured six others in some communities in Pla­teau State.

The killings took place on Sunday night at Hwak-Kwata village in Jos South Local Gov­ernment Area and Hoss in Ri­yom Local Government Area of the state.

Residents were seen wailing over the killing of their siblings. Others went in search of their missing relatives.

The Chairman of Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Mr Pwakim Choji, said that “the attackers came late in the night and initially killed 14 people and left eight others crit­ically injured. He said that two of the injured later died, bring­ing the death toll to 16.”

Bank’s CEO to face the wrath for delaying in Publication of Accounts - CBN


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will sack chief executive officer and chairman of any bank that fails to publish its financial statement within the regulatory period.

This was contained in the Monetary, Credit, Foreign Trade and Exchange Policy Guidelines for the 2016/2017 fiscal year released by the apex bank, yesterday.

According to the CBN, all banks must publish their financial statements latest four months after their financial year or risk severe sanction, including removal of the chief executive officer and the chairman.

Arsenal hamper Alex Iwobi from participating with Nigeria in Rio Olympics


Alex Iwobi is “devastated” after Arsenal finally blocked him from the Rio Olympics. This latest decision thus overrides an earlier position by the London club that Iwobi will be allowed to break pre-season training with them to join the Nigerian Olympic team at their training camp base in the United States of America ahead of the Rio games in August.
“Arsenal has taken a decision on Alex, he will not be going to the Olympics with Nigeria, according to a report by africanFootball.com.

After Years of Childlessness, Man commits to suicide


The death of a man identified as Joshua has caused panic for the residents of Isale Aro, Osogbo, in Osun State.

The incident, which happened on Thursday, June 23, 2016, was a result of the deceased long years of childlessness.

According to Punch, Joshua, who is a motorcyclist, was discovered hanging from a rope in his sitting room. This was before his wife returned from work on the day.

Charles Okah didn't escape from Kuje Prison - Solicitors Confirm


The detained leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, Charles Tonbra Okah, has denied that he was involved in jailbreak as earlier reported.

DAILY POST recalls that the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS had confirmed that there was a jailbreak in the Kuje maximum Prison on Friday night, but denied that Okah escaped.

Debunking the report, a statement signed by Timipa Jenkins Okponipere Esq, FIRST LAW SOLICITORS, said, Okah was not involved in any manner whatsoever in the prison break.

Inspector General of Police appoints Awunah as new police spokesman


The acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has appointed DCP Don Awunah as the new Force Public Relations Officer to replace ACP Olabisi Kolawole, who was the first female FPRO.

The outgoing spokesperson disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, explaining the appointment was in line with the Force’s tradition.

Custom Comptroller-General refute claims that his officers are exacting money from job seekers


The Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Services, NIS, in Cross River State, Mrs Funke Cecilia Adeuyi, has denied rumours that Immigration personnel in the command were extorting money from members of the public for job placement.
She denied the report while noting that about 730 illegal immigrants have been repatriated from the state this year.
She said, “From all I know nobody has come to me with such report. But we have been hearing rumours of fraudsters who hide under the canopy claiming to be immigration staff collecting money from people.

NYSC DG debunks rumour that the scheme has been scrap


Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has debunked rumours making the rounds that the one-year national youth service scheme has been scrapped.

Kazure disclosed this during a visit to the NYSC orientation camp in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau on Monday.

He explained that the purpose of the scheme was for national integration, a key in building a better Nigeria and urged the people to desist from peddling such rumours.

The D-G, who described the rumours as fabrications, called on the batch “A’’ stream of the scheme to embrace the NYSC skill acquisition programme.

30,000 Americans Lives in Nigeria while 300,000 Nigerians live in U.S – Envoy


The outgoing United States Deputy Consul-General in Lagos, Ms Dehab Ghebreab, on Monday said about 300,000 Nigerians currently live in different parts of the U.S.

Ghebreab told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the number of Nigerians in America is increasing.

She added that about 30,000 Americans currently live in Nigeria.
