Noise Pollution: Lagos State Government Seals 53 Churches, Mosques and Hotels

The Lagos State government, yesterday, sealed 53 churches, mosques and hotels across the metropolis over noise pollution and other environmental nuisances.

General Manager of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, Engr. Adebola Shabi in an interview after sealing the religious houses and the hotels said that the premises were shut following complaints from the residents.

He lamented that the premises shut were approved for residential but after few years, they have converted worship centres, saying “It has been constituting a nuisance to other neighbours.”

Jamie Vardy decided to snub a move to Arsenal he was not convinced they play the right style of football to suit his game, according to Sky sports.

Leicester announced on Thursday that the England forward has agreed on a new four-year deal at the club, which he will sign once he is back from Euro 2016.

Arsenal triggered a release clause in Vardy's contract earlier this month, but Arsene Wenger admitted at the weekend the transfer was dead.

Vardy's decision was based on his belief that his game would not suit Arsenal's possession-hungry style of football having flourished under the counter-attacking style of Claudio Ranieri's side last season.

MASSOB: "We are not Affiliated to Niger Delta Avengers"


The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sover­eign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) have denied any alliance with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

Their position was con­tained in a statement issued to newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Thursday, wherein they told the public to disregard any publication or claim of association between them and the NDA.

A statement jointly signed by Chief Okechukwu Nwaogu, a member of MASSOB Elders’ Council and Canice Anojuru, Owerri Zonal Leader of BIM respectively, described as false the June 15 publication by a national daily \ linking them with the NDA.

According to LIB, the man is said to be the branch manager of one of the bank's branches in Ekiti state. He knelt before the governor when a team from the bank went to pay a visit to Fayose following media reports the bank denied its involvement in the funding of his 2014 Gubernatorial election.

Of course, these comments have since been deleted, but will forever live on the Internet as possible evidence of an online tea party through screengrabs that were shared by fans.

Apparently, Harris decided to write back to a number of Swifties and his own fans on the social media website who were questioning what really went down between him and Taylor, and what he wrote back definitely raised some eyebrows.

Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, yesterday revealed why President Buhari retained the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, when he assumed office in May 2015. Speaking at a book launch in Lagos yesterday June 23rd, Adesina who represented President Buhari at the event, said President Buhari gave his reasons for retaining Arase at a farewell dinner he organised for him on Monday, June 20th, a day before Arase, retired from office.
“He said he saw the quality of Arase's mind and he saw the quality of things, he had written. You know Arase has many publications to his credit and he also saw his capacity as an operation person and he decided to keep him till his tenure expired”he said

The accident occurred yesterday before the Kaduna toll gate while coming from Abuja. All the occupants (4) died and their bodies were trapped in the mangled car.

An eye witness Sani Yauri said the driver was on high speed and lost control when he maneuvered a pitch hole. He hit a machine and then hit a parked vehicle.

David Cameron has resigned as Prime Minister in an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street in the early hours of today.

This is just as Britain voted to leave the European Union, with the Leave campaign securing around 51.8 percent of the vote.
"I do not think it would be right for me to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination," he told reporters outside his Downing Street office.
Mr Cameron, who led the Remain campaign, said he led the campaign with his "head, heart and soul".

A jealous husband has killed his wife before jumping to his death in a murder-suicide. The man identified as Reuben Mnisi allegedly killed his wife, Puleng Mnisi during an argument.

According to Daily Sun, the man later threw himself off a crane and plunged 40 metres to his death.

Narrating the incident, Puleng’s mother, Susan Mahlatse 60, from Sebokeng in the Vaal, said Reuben 42, and Puleng 35, lived in the same kasi and both worked at a mine.

Susan said on Friday Puleng arrived at work for the night shift and Reuben was about to go home.

The All Progressives Congress caucus in the Senate on Thursday defended the Buhari government’s corruption effort and justified why it targets members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, more.

The senate PDP caucus had on Wednesday announced the withdrawal of its members’ support for the government, citing the administration’s “belligerent attitude”.

But APC Senators, at a media briefing Thursday, defended Mr Buhari, saying those that benefited from illicit funds in the last administration have to face the consequences.

In Lagos: Gunmen shoot and killed a bank customer, also cart away with his money




Suspected armed robbers this morning shot and killed a bank customer, Kingsley Chukwudi, who was on his way out of a bank where he had gone to carry out some transactions in Apapa, Lagos. Eyewitnesses say the robbers who rode on motorbikes ambushed the deceased who is said to be a security officer, shot him at close range before carting away his bag containing his laptop and cash. They had thought that his laptop bag contained a huge some of money. His remains have been taken to the Area B police command in Apapa.

United Nations lauds FG’s efforts to eliminate corruption at ports


The Country Director, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Abuja, Dr Pa Lamin Beyai, said that corruption undermined human development, democracy and reduced access to public services by diverting public resources for private gains.

Beyai made said this in a message to a public launch of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Port agencies and Port Service Support Portal (PSSP) held on Thursday in Abuja to eliminate corruption at ports.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Beyai was represented by the Peace Development Advisor of UNDP, Dr Takwa Zebulon.

Beyai said that when public money was stolen for private gain, it meant fewer resources to build schools, hospitals, roads and water treatment facilities.

Edo PDP tells Ali Modu Sheriff to stay away from Edo Politics



The Edo State Chap­ter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday warned the embattled National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sher­iff, to steer clear of the politics of the state which had brought Pas­tor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party candidate for the September 10 gover­norship election.

Senator Sheriff, who had on Tuesday declared the emergence of the party governorship can­didate as illegal, fixed between 23rd and 29th June for the party prima­ries.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Benin City, stated that there is no romance be­tween Abuja politics and that of the state, urging the self-acclaimed chair­man and his cohorts to stop intervening in mat­ters relating to the gover­norship election.
