DHQ scraps Operation Pulo Shield replace it with Operation Delta Safe


The Defence Headquarters has scrapped the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, as part of the efforts to ensure better protection of oil pipelines and curtail insecurity in the Niger Delta.

The Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen.Rabe Abubakar, said in a statement on Wednesday that Operation Pulo Shield was replaced with Operation Delta Safe.

Abubakar said that the decision was taken in line with the directive of the Defence Headquarters for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness against insecurity and the protection of the nation’s pipelines in the Niger Delta.

House of Reps probe MTN, NBC others over sale of bandwidth


The House of Representatives said it would investigate the process of Digital Broadcast switchover in the country, particularly the sale of bandwidth to MTN.

The House is also to investigate the concession of the Graphic User Interface (GUI) value added services to InViewTech Ltd. of United Kingdom.

The resolution was sequel to a motion by Rep. Chris Azubogu (PDP-Anambra). The house also resolved to ascertain whether the aggregation of the equipment which cost billions of naira to procure over 20 million “Set-up Boxes’’ were capable of meeting the digitisation deadline.

Moving the motion, Azubogu said that for the second time, Nigeria failed to meet the deadline for Digital Switch-Over (DSO) from analogue transmission to digital terrestrial transmission.

Nigeria Navy intercepts pipeline vandals, recovers stolen petrol


The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday said it had impounded a wooden boat laden with 90 jerry cans of stolen petrol from suspected pipeline vandals at the Pashe creek in Badagry area of Lagos State.

The Commander, Forward Operating Base of the Navy in Badagry, Capt. Simon Dogo, told journalists in Lagos that the seizure was made after the vandals abandoned the boat on sighting a naval team and fled.
“My patrol teams went on patrol at Pashe creek when they saw perpetrators trying to load the petroleum products in a boat for transfer to the Benin Republic.

In Kano: Man Sentenced To Die By Hanging (SEE CRIMES)


Abubakar Abdulrahaman, the killer of Ganiyu Akanbi Bello, a Kano business tycoon, philanthropist, and Yoruba leader, has been sentenced to death by hanging on Wednesday, by Justice Kabiru Auta of a Kano High Court.

According to Sahara Reporters, the accused, Abubakar Abdulrahaman, 28, was found guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death.

He was discharged and acquitted of another charge of armed robbery.

Mr. Abdulrahaman was accused of murdering Mr. Bello on the night of June 5, 2014, in his residence at the Nassarawa Government Reserved Area (GRA) opposite Kano Race Course when he stabbed the victim in the heart with a kitchen knife.

United State Government Deport 41 Nigerians


At least 41 Nigerians were on Wednesday deported from the United States for drugs and immigration-related offences.

The deportees, all males according to Immigration sources were flown in aboard a chartered aircraft operated by Miami Air International marked with registration number N733MA, which arrived the Lagos international airport at 12.20pm.

Nigeria Troops Intercept 69 Fleeing Boko Haram Family Members With Weapons


Troops of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday intercepted 69 persons suspected to be families of Boko Haram terrorists escaping from Sambisa Forest.

Disclosing this in a statement, the acting Army spokesperson, Col Sani Kukasheka Usman said the suspected persons were intercepted by troops of the 81 battalions and the 251 Task Force Battalion at a checkpoint in Liwanti village along Damboa-Bulabulin road in Borno.

The statement said, “Today, in the early hours troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion deployed at an Observation Post sighted a group of persons approaching its Check Point at Liwanti village along Damboa-Bulabulin road, Borno State.

Ekiti State Governor says Zenith Bank and not Dasuki funded his campaign


Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State says Zenith Bank Plc and other private donors funded his 2014 governorship campaign.

He, therefore, stated that linking him with embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki (retd.) was nonsensical.

Fayose said this in a statement on Wednesday while reacting to an allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that N1, 219, 490,000 was flown to Akure Airport on June 12, 2014, to Fayose by a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

The money was alleged to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser and was eventually paid into Fayose’s account by one Abiodun Agbele, an associate of the governor.

A policeman who emitted a loud screeching sound while running from a snake in South Africa has become an internet sensation after viewers found it hilarious.

A priest from the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, identified as Rev. Father John Adeyi, who was reportedly kidnapped on his way to Otukpo, from his country home, Otukpa, Benue state two months ago, has been found dead in his decaying state.

It was learnt that the corpse of the vicar of the Otukpo Diocese who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen but was never released in spite of the payment of the sum of N2 million as ransom, was discovered in Otukpa on Wednesday morning as his body is already decaying.

Lightning in India leaves more than 50 people dead


Lightning has killed at least 70 people, mostly farm labourers working in fields, in eastern India this week as a much anticipated summer monsoon advances across the country.

An official in the eastern state of Bihar said on Wednesday that at least 56 people had been killed by lightning since Monday. Another 24 were injured by severe thunderstorms and monsoon rains in at least 14 districts of the state.
