Gov. Ambode Signs Deal to make Lagos 'First Smart City in Africa'


Lagos State government has signed a deal to draw from the success of Dubai's innovative knowledge-based industry clusters to empower business growth for companies and knowledge for workers all over the world. 

In a partnership that authorities say will see Lagos emerge as 'the first Smart City in Africa', the Lagos State Government and the City of Dubai on Monday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Lagos Smart City at the Emirate Towers, Dubai, by the Lagos State Commissioner of Justice, Adeniji Kazeem and the Chief Executive Officer of Smart City Dubai LLC, Jabber Bin Hafez.

According to reports, the signing of the MOU was witnessed by the Chairman of Dubai Holdings, Ahmad Bin Byat who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

According to a newly released 2003 police report following a search of the residence of late legendary pop musician, Michael Jackson, a sizable collection of pornographic material have been discovered cataloged at his Neverland Ranch.

The police report claims that in Jackson's bedroom and bathroom alone there were at least seven collections of work found by investigators that show boys in their teenage years - and in some cases younger - fully nude or partially clothed.

Unknown Gunmen Attack In Ikorodu Communities Leaves 20 dead


At least 20 people are feared dead after gunmen attacked two communities in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on Monday. The Elegbete and Igbolomu communities which are waterfronts faced what is believed to be reprisal attacks after a task force on pipeline vandalism killed two gunmen in the Elegbete community.

EFCC sue woman for attempting to export counterfeit travellers cheques


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday June 20, arraigned Favour Omeigba Bello before Justice (Prof) Chuka Augustine Obiozor of the Federal High Court of Lagos State, Ikoyi on 3-count charge bordering on attempt to export counterfeit, Possession of counterfeit and forgery.

The accused, Bello, was arrested by officials of the NDLEA on January 16, 2016 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airline to Dubai and was later transferred to the EFCC for further investigation.

Emmanuel Imole 33, has been arrested for bathing a police corporal, Kayode Akingbade, with a hot pot of soup.

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Monday remanded Emmanuel in prison custody on charges of assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of the public peace.

According to reports, some policemen, on June 13 at about 5:30pm, were on their usual patrol around the Baptist College, Ilawe Road, when one of them asked Emmanuel to vacate the area in order for them to carry out their operation.

Details on how Seven federal health workers diverted $4m HIV fund


Seven officials of the Federal Ministry of Health have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly diverting over $4 million intended for the fight against AIDS.

The stolen money was donated to Nigeria by an international financing organization, Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Global Fund had in May sent a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, accusing health officials of stealing the funds they provided.


The Fund pointed out several irregularities including $20 million payment to suppliers before delivery was confirmed and $3.7 million which cannot be accounted for but was allegedly spent on anti-retroviral drugs.
