INEC officers attest that Governor Wike’s election was peaceful and credible


The Independent National Electoral Commission, has unbelievably testified before the Rivers state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that the election of Nyesom Wike was credible, peaceful and conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act.

INEC presented 7 witnesses before Justice Suleiman Ambrose as sitting resumed on Monday.

The witnesses, who were presiding officers in polling units- revealed that relevant electoral procedures were followed before Wike was declared the winner of the election.

Hajj Stampede: Death toll rises to 717 inclusing Nigerians


About 717 persons has been reported death and 863 injured at the Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

According to the Saudi Civil Defence Service, the stampede broke out during the symbolic stoning of the devil ritual.

Several Nigerians are believed to have been killed in the stampede, which occurred in Mina.

Former SGF Chief Olu Falae has been release by abductors


Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, has been freed by his abductors.

His younger brother, Sunday Falae, told Channels Television that the former presidential candidate was released by captors on Thursday afternoon.

Also confirming his release, the Commissioner for Information of Ondo State, Kayode Akinmade, said that Chief Falae was on his way to the Government House and from there to his home.

President Buhari Prays In Daura, Katsina State


President Muhammadu Buhari joined Muslims all over the world in observing Eid el-Kabir prayer in his country home, Daura, Katsina State.

The prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Safiyanu Yusuf, at Kofar-Arewa Eid Ground.

In his sermon, the Imam stressed the importance of sacrifice in Islam.

Capsizes Boat in Lagos lives One missing, 21 others rescued


According to report from LIB, at least one person has been declared missing and 21 others rescued after two boat mishap occurred at different times along More Island and Tincan Island in Lagos today. Eyewitnesses say the boat mishap at More Island happened in the early hours of today while the one at Tincan Island happened at about 6pm.

President Buhari Orders IGP to Rescue Chief Falae 48 Hours After Abduction


President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to take all necessary action to ensure the safe and speedy rescue of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, 48 hours after his abduction.

Falae was abducted from his farm on Monday by suspected Fulani herdsmen who are demanding N100m ransom for his release.

World Bank Names Rachid Benmessaoud as Director for Nigeria


Rachid Benmessaoud, a former World Bank country director for Pakistan, has been appointed by the bank to support Nigeria’s development priorities, including education and public spending.

Benmessaoud was Monday named as the bank’s new country director for Nigeria and coordinating director for West Africa Regional Integration Programme.

Buhari Condemns Coup D’etat In Burkina Faso


The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has condemned Wednesday’s detention of the Interim President, the Prime Minister and other ministers of the transitional government of Burkina Faso in an apparent coup d’etat.

President Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said that Nigeria aligns with ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations “in rejecting the brazen contravention of the constitution and transitional charter of Burkina Faso by elements of the Presidential Guard under the leadership of General Gilbert Diendere.

Burkina Faso Military Releases President Kafando


Burkina Faso’s military has released the country’s interim President after he was detained during a coup that dissolved his government.

The junta released a statement confirming that Michel Kafando was freed from military custody.

The move came after the African Union suspended Burkina Faso and threatened sanctions unless the junta releases all interim political figures from detention.

Senate President Defends Absence At Code Of Conduct Tribunal


The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has explained why he did not honour the invitation by the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Friday.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President said that the manner in which the case was filed showed that he would not be given justice.

Burkina Faso Military Confirms Coup, Backs Gen. Gilbert Diendere as Interim Leader


Burkina Faso’s military took to the airwaves Thursday to declare it now controls the West African country, confirming that a coup has taken place just weeks before elections.

The announcement broadcast on national television and radio was read by an army lieutenant colonel wearing a camouflage uniform and cap who sat in front of a blue background. The statement said the country’s transitional government had been dissolved and the interim president was no longer in power.

President Buhari: "Ministers Do Nothing but Make Noise"


President Muhammadu Buhari’s delay, in appointing ministers, three months after coming to power may not be unconnected with his believe that civil servants and technocrats are the ones who do the job of governance more than the ministers.

Buhari who departed Nigeria for France on Monday, during an exclusive interview with France 24 tv François Picard, on Wednesday, however, said he intends to stick with his decision to name his cabinet before the end of the month, but however, opined that ministers are only there to “make a lot of noise.”

Saudi Arabia Crane accident: Families of Nigerian victims to get N70m each


The Families of the six Nigerian pilgrims who lost their lives in the Friday September 11th crane accident at the Grand Mosque in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca are to receive N70m each as compensation from the Saudi Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The king had ordered that families of each of the 111 people who lost their lives in the accident be paid compensation of (SR1,000,000) one million Saudi Riyals which is N70 million in Naira equivalent. Six Nigerian pilgrims including one pilgrim from Kaduna and five others from Gombe state died in the unfortunate incident.

Texas Police arrest 14yr old boy after his homemade clock was mistaken for a bomb


Yesterday there was a strong and angry reaction about the arrest of Ahmed with the hashtag #IStandwithAhmed trending. According to report, 14 year old Ahmed Mohamed was arrested after he'd made a clock at home and brought it into MacArthur High School in Irving to show his engineering teacher who congratulated him. Another teacher who heard it's beeping sound during class, saw it and believed it looked like a bomb, alerted school authorities who called the police.

In Ogun State: Pipeline Vandals Kill Ten DSS operatives


Ten operatives of the Department of State Security DSS were reportedly ambushed and killed by Pipeline vandals at the Arepo Area of Ogun State, yesterday September 16th.

According to ThisDay, the vandals killed the DSS operatives who intercepted them while they were siphoning fuel from an already vandalized NNPC pipeline in the area A gun battle ensued between both battles which led to the death of the DSS operatives.

Villa chapel won't be relocated - VP’s aide says


Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, on Wednesday, responded to reports that the Aso Rock Villa Chapel has been relocated.

The media aide said it was not fair to accuse the President of relocating the church when what happened was “the sorting out of procedural issues.” He insisted that it was baseless to assume that Buhari was hostile to Christians in the Presidential Villa.
