Floyd Mayweather Jr. signed off from professional boxing as he had planned, going out unbeaten and on his own terms as 'The Best Ever' after improving his career record to 49-0.

After a 19-year run that produced world titles in five weight divisions and earnings in excess of $800m, Mayweather bade farewell to the ring with a clinical display to earn a unanimous decision over fellow American Andre Berto.

Bayelsa State former Governor, Diepreye Peter Alamieyeseigha has branded ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo is a devil incarnate. The former governor said, though he had forgiven Obasanjo, who allegedly championed the campaign that led to his impeachment and subsequent incarceration, the experience, however, remained very painful to him.

Alamieyeseigha, who received state pardon from immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, told VANGUARD that Obasanjo’s conscience had been pricking him because of the role he played in his political misfortunes.

Nigeria To Experience Lunar Eclipse


A lunar eclipse is expected to be visible in Nigeria on Monday September 28, 2015 for five hours and eleven minutes.

According to a statement signed by the Deputy Director in charge of Media and Communications at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Felix Ale, the natural occurrence will start by 1:11am and end by 6:22 am.

Bomb Blast Rocks IDPs Camp In Yola


A bomb blast reportedly hit Malkohi IDPs camp in Yola, Adamawa State capital. Sources at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who confirmed the explosion, said that three people were injured, but did not confirm any death.

The blast was said to have gone off at a warehouse of the camp. The police have since condoned the area.

Friday’s blast comes about three months after a bomb blast left about 32 people dead in an explosion that ripped through a busy market in Yola.

President Buhari Sacks Chairmen Of FCT Internal Revenue Service, SEB & UBEB


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate sack of the Chairmen of FCT Internal Revenue Service, Secondary Education Board (SEB) and Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).

The approval was contained in a letter sent to the FCT Permanent Secretary, Engineer John Obinna Chukwu, by the Secretary to the Federal Government.

Flood Displaces Over 90,000 People In Japan


More than 90,000 people have been forced to abandon their homes in Japan, as widespread flooding and landslides hit the city of Joso, north of the capital, Tokyo.

Helicopter rescue teams have been plucking people from rooftops. One person has been reported missing in the region, and at least 12 are injured. The heavy downpour came a day after a tropical storm brought winds of up to 125km/h. The hardest-hit areas have been Ibaraki and Tochigi Prefectures.

Osun State Government Promises To Pay Outstanding Wages Before September End


Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday assured civil servants that they will be paid their outstanding salary arrears before the end of the month.

‎Aregbesola made the disclosure while speaking at the National flag off ceremony for the distribution of FGN/UBEC plastic chairs and tables to all the states in the country, in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

NNPC Seeks Military Collaboration To Curb Oil Theft


The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has sought more support of the Nigerian military in tackling crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other vices in Nigeria’s maritime environment.

At a meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, between the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Gabriel Olonisakin and Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, the Defence Chief told the NNPC boss that the Armed Forces would interface with the Corporation to ensure that all the problems that the NNPC was facing got needed attention.

General Olonisakin noted that “already the Nigerian Navy has put up a lot of initiatives that will ensure that issues of pipeline vandalism, piracy and oil theft are addressed”.

Assets Declaration: President Buhari worth N30m, VP Osinbajo, N94m before May 29


Yesterday President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo officially declared their assets. This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, 
“the documents submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), which officials say are still being vetted and will soon be made public, show that prior to being sworn in on May 29, President Buhari had less than N30 million to his name. He also had only one bank account with the Union Bank. President Buhari had no foreign account, no factory and no enterprises. He also had no registered company and no oil wells,”

A woman claims her menstrual blood on Instagram said she received death threat. Feminist Louelle Denor said she was driven to post the image after hearing reports that some social networks had begun censoring pictures of women on their period.

Nigerian Army restore 3,032 soldiers fired for indisipline


3,032 dismissed soldiers were reinstated yesterday,after being convicted by military courts for various offences.In all, 5,000 were convicted, but only the 3,032 were lucky.

Army Public Relations Acting Director Col. Sani Usman, revealed this at a briefing in Abuja.He noted that,some of the convicted soldiers had their sentences upheld by the committee.

According to him, only soldiers with disciplinary cases have been reinstated as those with criminal cases were not even considered by the committee.

PDP says Tinubu Working Against Fashola’s Emergence As Minister


The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State has claimed that National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, does not want former Governor Babatunde Fashola to be appointed minister by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC leader had in a statement last week denied reports that he was behind startling revelations detailing Fashola’s mismanagement of the state’s funds. He subsequently accused the PDP of sponsoring the reports of the immediate past governor’s N78.3m website.

Suicide Bomber Apprehended While Trying To Enter Busy Motor Park In Bauchi


A suspected suicide bomber who was on the move to detonate his explosive device at the Yankari motor park in Bauchi, Bauchi State, has been apprehended.

A security source, who confirmed the arrest to TheCable, said the suspect was trying to gain entry into the park when the explosives on him were spotted by metal detectors mounted at the entrance.

Nigeria Troops Recaptures Gamboru Ngala From Terrorists


The Nigerian Army has retaken the economic and strategic town of Gamboru Ngala in Borno State, from the Boko Haram terrorists group.

The triumphant troops took back the north-eastern territory from the terrorists on Tuesday.

A statement by the spokesman for the military, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said the troops had started clearing and mopping up patrols in the town.
