Ekiti State Governor appoints 72 years old Carpenter as LG Chairman

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a 72-year-old illiterate, Pa Olatunde Afolayan, as the caretaker chairman of Moba Local Government Area. 

He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. 

The governor, who stated this during the inauguration of Boards, Commissions and Governing Councils in the state, said it was only God that saved him from the failed impeachment plot. 

Thailand Police Arrest Suspect Over Bangkok Bombing

Police in Bangkok say they have arrested one of the suspects in the bombing that killed 20 people earlier this month.

He was found after Police raided an apartment in a northern suburb of the capital on Saturday afternoon and discovered possible bomb-making materials that could have been used in the August 17 attack in Bangkok’s bustling commercial heart.

Police would not confirm where the suspect was from but said he was a foreign national and would be charged initially with possession of illegal explosive materials and held at a military facility.

Department of State Services Nabs Spy at Abuja Airport

The Department of State Services has busted a spying network mounted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Following the development, the service had stepped up security at all airports across the country to frustrate other criminal plots and protect lives and property.

The DSS in a statement on Saturday by an official, Tony Opuiyo, stated that it apprehended a 14-year old boy from Kogi State, Sulaiymon Abdulrahman (a.k.a Sunday Ajayi), who was monitoring travelers’ movements, passenger screening, boarding procedures and other processes at the departure and arrival halls.

Nigerian Troops Uncover IED Making Factory In Borno

Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Friday discovered and destroyed an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) making factory in Borno State.

It is another feat achieved by military personnel combing Sandia, Kokakowa, Miyati and Nyaleri villages, along Maiduguri-Bulabulin-Damboa road, in Damboa Local Government Area in the north-east Nigerian for members of the Boko Haram sect terrorising the area.

Four Crew Members and others Die In Kaduna Helicopter Crash

Seven people have been killed after an aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed at the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna , Northwest Nigeria.

The casualties include all four crew members and three passengers. The victims were travelling from the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna en route Abuja , the nations capital.

Emergency officials say the helicopter crashed less than ten minutes after taking off.

Col. Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Adebowale Adefuye, is dead. Mr. Adefuye, a former History professor died on Thursday at an undisclosed hospital in Washington DC.

Mr. Adefuye was appointed the head of the Nigerian mission to the U.S. in 2010 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State in 1947. He was a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he bagged his first degree in 1969.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has noted that while it is true that President Buhari’s appointments are not yet balanced, the President will take cognisance of geo-political spread in the future.

Adesina, who made this known Friday while speaking on RayPower’s flagship programme in Abuja, said: “In terms of the spread, the thing I will also like to say is that the President has the prerogative to make appointments and he knows that there is federal character in our constitution. Olufunsho Amosun, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, has debunked speculations that she was recently arrested in the United Kingdom over money laundering allegations, saying the false tales were spread by those bent on destroying her image.

Mrs. Amosun made the clarification at State Hospital, Abeokuta, on Friday during an interview with journalists shortly after she donated milk and other items to expectant mothers on behalf of Aisha Buhari, the wife of the Nigerian President.

Recall that there were unsubstantiated reports recently alleging that the governor’s wife was arrested in London for laundering money running into millions of dollars.

A woman was arrested on a charge of murder after killing her lesbian lover and then framing the victim’s boyfriend for the murder, police in California said. Now, 31-year-old Larene Eleanor Austin of Palmdale, has been sentenced to serve life in prison for killing 29-year-old Lanell Barsock, because she wanted to focus on the relationship with her boyfriend.

According to WWWN, Austin was found guilty on one count of first-degree murder. According to the police investigation, Austin had a brief romantic relationship with Barsock. Austin killed Barsock, by shooting her in the head after the victim ended the relationship to focus on her boyfriend.

NNPC Cancels Crude Supply Contracts To Refineries

The Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) has cancelled the current contracts on the supply of crude to the nation’s refineries.

The move according to the cooperation is to curb the exorbitant cost and inappropriate process of engagement.

While that subsist, NIDAS Marine Limited, a subsidiary of the NNPC has been engaged to provide crude delivery service on negotiated industry standard rate pending the establishment of substantive contracts.

"I checked in and my boarding pass said I was on stand by. The guy who checked me in told me to go and wait at the gate that I might be lucky to fly. I asked him why I was not informed as I bought a confirmed ticket that I needed to see the manager. Scores of dead refugees found on boat off Libya coast

Italian and Swedish coastguards said they found Scores of bodies of refugees in the hold of a boat off the coast of Libya

According to Aljazeera, the discovery was made after a Swedish ship, called the Poseidon, was sent to the aid of the stricken vessel by the Italian coastguard, which said it was simultaneously coordinating rescue operations for multiple boats carrying at least 2,000 people.

Swedish coastguard spokesman Mattias Lindholm told the AFP news agency that they had been able to save 439 people on the wooden boat.
