Appeal Court upholds Ambode’s victory also fined the challenger Jimi Agbaje


According to report, the Court of Appeal sitting today affirmed the verdict of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, and declared Ambode the bonafide winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos State.

Agbaje’s appeal was dismissed by the court on the grounds of incompetence.

The five-man appeal panel also ordered him to compensate each of the respondents in the sum of N50,000 each.

Reporter and Cameraman shot by unknown gunman on-air


A reporter and cameraman were shot while broadcasting with one injured in Moneta, Virginia, in a shooting that was partially captured on video which has now been taking down due to violation of youtube privacy on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 6:45 am at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake. A news crew from WDBJ7 local news was on the scene to film a segment for the morning news when several shots rang out. Screams followed and the camera recording the feature fell, as producers cut to the shocked studio news team.

President Salva Kiir of South Sudan signs peace deal with rebels


South Sudan President Salva Kiir has signed a peace deal with rebels more than a week after refusing to do so, at a ceremony in the capital Juba attended by African regional leaders.

The presidents of Kenya and Uganda, and the prime minister of Ethiopia, who all helped mediate the negotiations, were at signing event on Wednesday.

Rebel leader Riek Machar signed the accord in the Ethiopian capital last week, but Kiir had said on the same day that his government needed more time to study the text.

Don't Negotiate with Boko Haram, Group tells Buhari


The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the federal government to shelve any plan to dialogue with the Boko Haram terroritst group, arguing that such efforts may be an exercise in futility.

According to a former Inspector General of Police who is also the ACF Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie, previous attempts at a peaceful resolution of the prolonged Boko Haram terrorism did not yield the desired results.

Coomasie who spoke at a press conference in Kaduna yesterday, also chided Igbo elders and leaders for allegedly failing to condemn those promoting the revival of Biafra.

Femi Falana, a famous Lagos lawyer, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption strategy, suggesting that GEJ fought corruption in more civilized ways than Buhari.

The Lagos lawyer in a Channels TV programme said that: “contrary to the general belief that former President closed his eyes to corruption, President Goodluck Jonathan did so much in the fight against corruption including the sack of three of his ministers for alleged graft.”

Falana went on to give a critique of Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts after the end of the Abacha era under which President Buhari served as PTF Chairman. According to him, “Since the Sani Abacha period, every government has tried one way or the other to fight corruption.

Philipinnes receive US$300,000 donation from Nigeria Government


Ambassador Buba Tekune, Charge d’Affaires of the Federal Government of Nigeria, turned over to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman, a donation amounting US$300,000.00 (equivalent to PH14,000,000.00) and housing/construction materials to support the Government’s Post-Haiyan rehabilitation efforts and to benefit the Filipino victims of Typhoon Haiyan in a turnover ceremony held at the DSWD on August 19.

The simple ceremonial turnover was also attended by DSWD Assistant Secretary Vilma Cabrera, Mr. Murtala Jimoh, Senior Counsellor/Head of Chancery of the Nigerian Embassy, Director Leilani S. Feliciano, Director, Department of Foreign Affairs-Office of Middle East and African Affairs, and some members of the Philippine media.

Sister to donate her kidney to American 110m World Record Holder


American hurdler, Olympic champion and 110m world record holder Aries Merritt  has a rare genetic disorder which will force him to undergo a kidney transplant and will receive a kidney from his sister on 1 September.

Merritt ran 13.25 seconds to win his heat on Wednesday to qualify for Thursday's semi-finals. He said he "felt like a weight was lifted" after being able to share his plight with others.

WICKEDNESS: Landlord sets tenant ablaze in Lagos (PHOTO)


Sola Solomon a landlord in the Idumota, Lagos Island area of Lagos State, has allegedly poured petrol and set fire to one of his tenants, identified simply as Abeeb, aka Ogbon.

PUNCH Metro gathered that as the victim struggled to put out the flames, the 67-year-old landlord pushed him down from the top floor of the three-storey building.

The father of one was said to have landed with a thud, as the flames ate through his body.
Our correspondent was told that Abeeb had barely spent five months in the house located on Iga Idunganran Street, Idumota, when he was killed.

President Buhari orders removal of Police orderlies from VIPs


President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the withdrawal of police orderlies from unauthorised persons. The president gave the directive last week when he met with the Ministry of Police Affairs.
 
According to statement yesterday release by the Police Service Commission (PSC), he said Very Important Persons (VIPs) not entitled to police orderlies should look elsewhere for security cover.

The Head, Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, added that a high level monitoring team had been deployed at the airports, highways and other public places to enforce the directive.

Solution to Instagram Embed Code Not Working on Blogger


Yes, I have battled about this for a while before I was able to come up with a solution. I even went online and did a lot of research but yet none could provide the answer to the problem I was going through with blogger and Instagram.

Ok, here is the problem, when I try to post embedded pictures or short videos from Instagram to by blog it won't show. Everything look just fine when I am copying the embedded code into my post and when I view it after what it won't show the picture or the video, it will only show a rectangular shape of the picture of video and nothing more.

NIS Senior Officers: "Jonathan recruited 1600 into Immigration, not Suspended Boss"


Some concerned Senior officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service have released a statement defending their suspended boss, Mr. David Parradang, in the controversial recruitment exercise that rocked the agency during the last administration. 

Femi Adesina, spokesperson of President Buhari last week stated that Parradang was suspended by president Buhari for his alleged involvement in the recruitment exercise that led to the death of 16 applicants.

At Least Six Dead As Explosions Rock Damaturu


At least six persons have been reported dead in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, after twin blasts occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Channels Television’s correspondent in Yobe State, Jonathan Gopep, the first blast occurred at the Central Motor Park while the second one was set off along the Gashua-Maiduguri bypass.

The Spokesman for the Police in the State, Toyin Gbadegesin confirmed the explosion.

He said 42 others are receiving treatment.
