NIS Senior Officers: "Jonathan recruited 1600 into Immigration, not Suspended Boss"


Some concerned Senior officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service have released a statement defending their suspended boss, Mr. David Parradang, in the controversial recruitment exercise that rocked the agency during the last administration. 

Femi Adesina, spokesperson of President Buhari last week stated that Parradang was suspended by president Buhari for his alleged involvement in the recruitment exercise that led to the death of 16 applicants.

At Least Six Dead As Explosions Rock Damaturu


At least six persons have been reported dead in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, after twin blasts occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Channels Television’s correspondent in Yobe State, Jonathan Gopep, the first blast occurred at the Central Motor Park while the second one was set off along the Gashua-Maiduguri bypass.

The Spokesman for the Police in the State, Toyin Gbadegesin confirmed the explosion.

He said 42 others are receiving treatment.

South North Korea Deal Agree To Reduce Tensions


South Korea has halted its propaganda broadcasts into North Korea, as part of the agreement between the two countries to defuse tension.

Landmine blasts, loudspeakers blaring propaganda, an exchange of artillery fire and threats of more hostilities had put both sides on edge along the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), the world’s most heavily fortified border.

But after marathon talks between high-level officials, the two bitter foes said in the early hours of Tuesday that they had found enough common ground to dial back the situation.

Nigeria Sign Economic And Security Cooperation Pact with Benin Republic


The governments of Nigeria and Benin Republic have agreed to strengthen the economic and security cooperation between both countries.

Addressing a joint press conference after a closed door meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and President Boni Yayi of Benin Republic, the two presidents also agreed to promote efforts towards regional integration.

They pledged to put in place necessary mechanisms to further strengthen regional integration under the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and the Co-Prosperity Alliance Zone (COPAZ).

Actor Terrence Howard Wins Spousal Support Battle Against Second Wife


Terrence Howard secured a major victory in court today. After weeks of battling his second wife Michelle Ghent over spousal support, a judge overturned their original divorce settlement, ruling that Terrence signed the agreement under duress.

If you recall, Terrence argued in court that he was forced to sign the agreement due to threats that Michelle would leak his nude photos and videos online if he decided otherwise.

Former Lagos State Governor Spent N779m on Two ‘Special’ Boreholes and a Car Park


The immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, spent N139m on the drilling of two boreholes at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

The project was completed by Deux Projects Limited according to a report published by the state government

The report, which was part of the awarded contracts by the Lagos State Tenders Board in 2013, was seen on the website of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.

Boko Haram: Nigeria Air Force Intercepts Sect Logistics Supply


The Nigerian Air Force says it has Intercepted and destroyed two trailers suspected to be carrying logistics support to members of the Boko Haram sect.

The Nigerian Air Force in a statement by its spokesman, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, explained that Air Force Agusta helicopter on armed reconnaissance mission around the Nigeria-Cameroon border, destroyed the trailers said to have been covered and parked at different locations in the bush around the border town of Belel.

President Buhari Orders Probe Of Weapons Procurement Since 2007


President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Security Adviser to convene an investigative committee on the procurement of hardware and munitions in the Armed Forces from 2007 till now.

The investigative committee’s mandate is to identify irregularities and make recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the Armed Forces.

“The establishment of the investigative committee is in keeping with President Buhari’s determination to stamp out corruption and irregularities in Nigeria’s public service”, a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adeshina said.

DSS Charges Former National Security Adviser To Court Over Illegal Fire Arms


The former National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Col Mohammed Dasuki has been charged to court for possession of fire arms without license.

The crime, according to the Directorate of State Services (DSS), is punishable under Section 27(i)(a)(i) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 LFN 2004.

In a statement released on Monday, the DSS said this is in line with the commitment of the service to the rule of law, in which nobody is deemed to be above the law, no matter how highly placed in the society.

According to Emirates News, Dr. Al Kaabi was the UAE’s first bone surgeon and an international goodwill ambassador for the country. A social personality known for her love for others, she was a prominent figure in the UAE community and was involved with several humanitarian and charitable initiatives. Until her death, Dr. Mosa was a top physician at the Zayed Military Hospital.

According to report, a 200-level student of Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, was killed Wednesday by a car as students marked their annual “Rag Day”.

The victim, identified as Oluwatobiloba Adeniyi, was a student of the department of Integrated and Computer Science Education in the college, located in Osiele.

Army Chief In War Front To Mop Up Operations In Boko Haram Enclaves


Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, on Saturday led troops conducting mop up operations in areas formerly occupied by members of the Boko Haram sect in the north-east.

The operation followed the recent aerial bombardment of terrorists’ enclaves in the Borno State.

Addressing reporters after the operations, Lieutenant General Buratai said he was happy going for the mission with the troops.

Hawker Hunter Jet Crash In UK leaves Seven Death


Seven people have been killed in a Hawker Hunter jet crash during an Air show in the United Kingdom.

The jet collided with some vehicles. According to eyewitnesses, the plane was performing a loop but could not complete the maneuver when it came crashing down in a ball of flames.

According to the BBC, South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that the victims died at the scene, while another person is critical in hospital. The number of injured stands at 14.
