PDP dare EFCC to investigate APC former Governors

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the corrupt leaders and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The Acting National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, gave the challenge when he received a delegation of members PDP in the senate at Legacy House, the party’s campaign office in Abuja. Secondus, who called for President Muhamadu Buhari intervention, said that the anti-graft agency was only investigating PDP members in its anti-corruption war leaving those who served under APC.

Police arraign Lecturer who allegedly raped an 18 year old UNILAG admission seeker

The police on Thursday arraigned a part-time lecturer, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old admission seeker. An accusation Baruwa said was false, he said the act was consensual.

 

The 42-year-old lecturer was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Thursday.

The 18 year old victim and her father were in the court premises with agony written on their faces.

The lecturer’s wife and other relatives were also observed in the court. Baruwa was arraigned by the police on one count of rape.

Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea will not start Manchester United's Premier League opener against Tottenham due to the distraction of his potential transfer to Real Madrid.

Nigerian troops on August 5th arrested one Mai Mustapha alleged to be the fuel supplier to Boko Haram terrorists in Jehu village near Jakana in Borno State. Also arrested was a man identified as Madu who helps in purchasing food items for the terrorist.

During the troops operations in villages near Dikwa, piles of street lamps poles cut into pieces by Boko Haram terrorists which they use in making Improvised Explosives Devices was discovered.

50 Cent desperately seeking to rent out his mansion

Gossip site TMZ report that 50 Cent is looking to rent out his massive Connecticut estate. Since he filed for bankruptcy, 50's been trying to dig out from under his debts, and during a meeting with his creditors on Wednesday, his lawyers revealed the rapper is now trying to sublet the mansion which features 21 bedrooms, 9 kitchens, and even a casino!

No word on how much 50's asking, but bankruptcy docs show he'd been paying $72,000 per month just for maintenance on the place.

A man accused of shooting Lil Wayne's tour bus claims Birdman should be held responsible. The 32-year-old rapper and his entourage - including fellow Young Money artists Lil Twist and Hood were leaving Compound nightclub in Atlanta in April when their vehicle was attacked, with Jimmy Winfrey subsequently arrested.

However, in new court documents, Winfrey - a former tour manager for Young Thug - claims he shouldn't be singled out for the crime, though he doesn't go so far as to directly say the music mogul ordered the shooting.

TRAGIC! Nigerian man allegedly pound his own mother to death in Texas

Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, a Mother of four and who also was an accomplished professor of languages, and a published author, was bludgeoned (beat with a stick with heavy end) to death at her home in Longview, Texas, on July 28th. Her last child, 31 year old Daniel Kadima (left) has been arrested in connection with her death.

Police was called to her home on July 28th and found her beaten to death - a bloody chair was lying next to her body. Police believe it was the murder weapon. She had fractures to her skull with laceration of the brain because of blunt impact to the head, according to autopsy findings. Daniel, who had called police to report a person lying dead in the apartment, was arrested the next day.

British actor George Cole is dead

British actor George Cole has died at the age of 90, his rep has confirmed.

The much-loved star, who was best known for his role as Arthur Daley in Minder, is thought to have been battling a long-term illness.

Cole's career spanned more than 70 years after landing a role in a touring musical at the age of 15, but is most recognised for playing Daley in the long-running series.

Officials say a drone dropped a package of drugs into an Ohio prison yard while inmates were outside, sparking a fight - according to Huffington Post.

The package was dropped July 29 at the Mansfield Correctional Institution, in Ohio. A spokeswoman for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says it contained almost a quarter of an ounce of heroin, over 2 ounces of marijuana and more than 5 ounces of tobacco.

Malaysia confirms plane debris washed up on Reunion Island is from Flight MH370

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak confirmed that the wreckage found on Reunion Island last week belongs to the Malaysia Airlines plane that went missing with 239 passengers and crew on board in March, 2014.

"The international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370," he said in a televised statement

Lagos State Government releases N11bn to pay pensioners

The Lagos State Government has released N11bn to pay off pension liabilities in arrears in the state since 2010 to date.

The Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, on Wednesday in Alausa, Ikeja, said the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had directed that the sum should be used to pay the pension liabilities of the Lagos State Government mainstream retirees and the retirees in local governments areas.

Lecturer rapes 18- year-old female seeking admission in UNILAG

A part-time lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Afeez Baruwa, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl, identified as Caroline (not her real name).

It was learnt that the victim, who was reportedly raped inside a study room, was seeking admission into the University.

Baruwa who was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3 told the police in his statement that the sexual intercourse was by mutual consent, insisting that he did not rape the victim. 

Caroline got to know the lecturer through her Dad because they both belonged to the same landlords’ association in the Abesan, Ipaja area. 

NEMA warns Nigerians to prepare for drought all over the Country

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday advised Nigerians to prepare for possible drought all over the country.

NEMA’s warning followed the prediction of heavy rainfall by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET). The North West coordinator of NEMA, Musa Illalah, gave the advice in Kaduna during a workshop on liquid and solid waste management in the context of flood mitigation.

Represented by the director, Administration of the agency, Amina Ahman, Illalah said the implication of the NIMET alert was because there may be excessive rainfall hence, states in the North ought to anticipate drought.

Boko Haram gun down Nine Nigerian fishermen by Lake Chad

Boko Haram Islamists shot dead nine fishermen in a village near the shores of Lake Chad in northeastern Nigeria according to a leading fisherman who survive the attack.

According to report obtain by AFP, the men were heading towards the fishing town of Baga on Tuesday when they were stopped by the militants, dragged out of their van and gunned down, said Abubakar Gamandi, head of the fishermen's union in Borno State.
